  1. HTV: I was responding to the person who created this topic. He was the one who called them Champs.
  2. Ok Powell is the "champion" of the 1st 4 days of camp. Wait a minute they don't give camp "championships" only state championships which as we all know have to be won by playing 15 games. The only problem Powell has is that they only finish 3rd in their region. Until they beat Maryville and Central a camp "championship" is all they have.
  3. Baconhead: If you would have read my post you would have noticed that I quoted tssaa.org on the enrollment figures. Here is the link: http://www.tssaa.org/schdir/Schdir_Detail.cfm?ID=31 Here is what it says: Search Result Bradley Central High School 1000 S Lee Hwy. Cleveland, TN 37311 Mascot: Bears Colors: Black, Gold County: Bradley Enrollment: 2304 Athletic District: 3 Division: 1 Grand Division: East School Type: Public If the TSSAA website is 600 high as you say so what. It still means that Bradley Central is only 4 times larger than Catholic not 6 times. As for Catholic's 2004 schedule what a freaking joke to state that it makes Catholic an "elite" team. I saw no 2,3,4 or 5-A powers on it. For that matter no crappy 3, 4 or 5-A teams. If Catholic was some football powerhouse they wouldn't be travelling all over kingdom come to play a bunch of week sisters of the poor. Chuckey Choke and Fartburg??? At least take on those reputed Knox county powerhouses of Carter and Gibbs. At least this season they will be exposed as the frauds that they are with games vs AE, Fulton and Anderson County. If they can pull off a 1 loss season with the 2005 schedule they would deserve some credit but I somehow doubt it is in the cards. After looking at the '05 schedule I will add a 4th loss at least. 1st game is against Smith Co. a 3-A semifinal team in '04. As Jim Rome's clones say: I'M OUT!
  4. If I'm not mistaken Powell had to leave camp early so their coaches could report for school on monday. They were allowed to miss in-service on friday. My information says that the camp actually ends on wed. Are we to believe the other schools still at camp will not continue to scrimmage?
  5. Calm down Bulldog Boy. When you get kicked by a S-D team that had 20 something straight losses you just stink! Go prove something on the field or just wait for Soccer.
  6. IDIOTS. Catholic has 426 students according to tssaa.org so that probably means 220-250 males tops. In the real world that is about where the cutoff for 1 to 2-A is. The only reason they have a "3"-A football classification is the mulitiplier. On the other hand Bradley Central has 2304 students (again according to tssaa.org) so how can that be a equal matchup for Bradley. As for a Private division championship that isn't in a league with the aforementioned big boys of Tennessee football who cares. Kinda like 1-A in public.
  7. Let me get this straight. Bradley (a 5-A school) scrimmages Knoxville Catholic (essentially a 1-A school) and ties and this is a good thing??? So freaking what if Catholic was 10-1 who do they play that is of any consequence to a 5-A school? I can't imagine Catholic staying within 28 points of a state championship calibre 3, 4 or 5-A school plus all of the heavyweight private schools. You can throw Alcoa into the mix as well (they certainly have enough talent to compete in 4 or 5-A in 2005). Go scrimmage someone your own size and have a good result then maybe someone will care. Would the mighty Bears of 1999-2000 have been caught dead taking on a lowly 1-A team. I think not.
  8. They did not make the top 4 last year and had a 1800 yd. RB. Not too sure how much talent they have left. Their current crop of Juniors where just god awful in 2003 as freshmen. They probably are better than Bearden (hey the dogs got beat by S-D last year) so that leaves JC to fight it out with SH, Karns & SC for 2nd, 3rd and 4th. One of those goes home at the end of October. I'm sure the picture will be pretty clear after the first month of the season or so. Ohh yeah I forgot about CC. Not sure if one winning team in 30 years is a trend in the making. I guess they will be in the mix for the 2-4 spots. I think (most) everyone agrees that Bearden looks like the # 1 bet to be cellar dweller. I guess football season at BHS has become the time of year that follows soccer and is before basketball.
  9. Claiborne County is north of Knoxville up U.S. 25 W right before you cross into Middlesboro, KY. The earlier poster was right to say that a Powell Valley High School was closed a couple of years back. It was the one in Claiborne County TN. An easy to make mistake when this is a Tennessee board. Very few people in TN outside of the Tri-Cities area would know didly squat about a HS in Southwest VA.
  10. Just a week late on that update. Need to check out boards more often. As for JC this kinda screws their chances this season. Could be batlling Bearden & Karns for the cellar.
  11. 60-0 included scores by JV & Freshmen. When it was 1 vs. 1's it was 35-0 still a major rear end whipping but not 60-0. It was 21-0 in the normal game like scrimmage and the WB # 1's scored 2 TD's in the 10 yard line going in scenario. Counting scores by the B-Team and the Freshman who only see the field in a blowout for or against you is a little bit bush league. What was even worse is that some moron got on the PA at the end of the scrimmage (which hadn't been on all night) and announced the "60-0" score. Pardon my french but that is someone being an major league a**hole. WB is a really good team (especially when you take into consideration that Brad Walker didn't play a down). Unless there is a Nuclear Meltdown in Blount County WB at the worst will be 8-2 with 9-1 or 10-0 a real possiblility. S-D stunk up the joint and looked really bad. Last week at the Anderson County/Farragut 3 way they looked decent and held their own. The big question is how will they respond to yesterdays masacre??? If they don't shake off the cobwebs next friday's trip to Alcoa could be unpleasant. The jamboree tomorrow against Webb may well be crucial for the confidence of the 1st teamers. Playing much more like they did last friday would do wonders for bruised egos. A lopsided loss to Alcoa would not be a good sign for the rest of the season. The score in the jamboree may not be important since the starters will likely only play 1 series of Offense and 1 of defense. The Cherokees need to compete in those 2 series. Yesterday S-D did compete for a while but when WB scored on a long run just 1 play after a turnover at about the WB 30 (to make it 14-0) you could see the life drain out of S-D. When you have lost 14 games in a row (many by lopsided margins) it is hard to deal with adversity. SD desperately needs something positive to hang their hats on.
  12. Gotta wonder who makes some of the preseason region picks in that mag. WB 4th in 2 5A??? Not likely.
  13. CCman84: If you are counting on a win over S-D because of a fired coach then you don't have much. Swafford was a coach that sometiimes won in spite of himself. Coach Hutchins proved he can coach last year at McMinn County. S-D talent wise was not a 0-10 team last year but the poor coaching by Swafford and then his sudden firing destroyed any chance that team had. (the interim head coach Darryl Chandler had prevously quit coaching and became an assistant principal at Karns after the christmas break) From last years staff there are only a couple of hold overs. CCHS was only barely able to beat S-D in '03 with all of the problems the program had. With the speed that S-D has they should be greatly improved by running the Wing-T. In a few weeks S-D should know what they have got. Scrimmages vs. Anderson County, Farragut and William Blount should provide stern tests. If the injury bug stays away S-D should be greatly improved from '03. In the wide open Region 1 5A 2nd place through 4th place and a playoff birth could be very close.
  14. S-D & WB tied when you added in the 2 scores by the WB scrubs. Passing leagues aren't good indicators of Wing T teams anyway since they mostly want to run the ball. Does give some semi-live practice on 3 & 5 steps drops though.
  15. 2-3 years ago S-D was pretty good despite having a worthless head coach (swafford). Last year was obviously a disaster but even so S-D was competitve in at times. The Wing-T obviously fits the personnel and besides DB who really knows what anybody has in 1 5A. The Cherokees scrimmage August 11 vs. WB will be a real test.
  16. Carson could end up a little bit north of the blount co. line as well.
  17. Pennington never played in D-II. There was no private/public split in the early 1990's.
  18. Wrong about South-Doyle. The visitors section is about 60% the size of the home side. Also the visitor stands are brand new metal bleachers built last year. Replaced the original visitor stands built 30+ years ago. S-D now has as nice a stadium as there is in Knox County. The stadium also sits down in a bowl that surrounds about 60% of the stadium which allows people to sit or stand on the banks if they choose.
  19. Hey Roadrunner: Went to the AE/Fulton Playoffgame last fall. I must say that the atmosphere is interesting on the AE visitor side. First there were a lot of AE fans on that side. Second you can get a mean meal of buffalo wings there as well. Finally the ever present waves of billowing "smoke" of a certain illegal substience that flow into the stadium from the dwellings just beyond school property makes that side of the field a experience to behold. I will have to say that I have never felt unsafe at an AE football game. I'm sure the very visible police presence has a lot to do with it. I also think the AE PA guy is hilarious... "FIRST DOWN ROOOOOAAAAAADDDDD RUNNER" Gotta love those PA guys with some style like the guy Maryville had in days gone by.
  20. Pennington was redshirting at Marshall in '96. He last played at Webb in '94. Became the starter at Marshall in '95 and then took off '96 while Eric Kresser (who transfered from UF) played during that season. Chad then took back over for '97-'99 seasons. That was a pretty decent Webb team though.
  21. Central ('91) lost in Overtime to OR when their PK missed an EXP after both teams had scored TD's in the extra period. Final was something like 42-41.
  22. Andy Nick will only be an emergency QB after Wall & Crosby. He will spend time on Offense at SE and WB. Offensively the 2nd year of the Wing T is going to be better only a small percentage of the terminology has changed. 90% or so is the same.
  23. Rebelraider: Don't necessarily need to have a "great" OL in a Wing T offense. If you have competent linemen that can follow the rules that are set down, holes will open due to the nature of the offense. Adding a 190 lb RB that runs a sub 11.0 100 meters doesn't hurt either. Walker didn't always hit the hole at 100 % speed in '03 and still gained over 900 yds. in the regular season. If he does a better job of hitting his holes full speed 1500 yards is certainly not out of the question. I would suspect that WB will average well over 200 yds. a game which is certainly pretty good. Having a HC that believes in and is knowledgeable in the Wing T will also be a huge asset.
  24. I guess Blue21Sally @ 7 had a fun time waching the grass grow this afternoon. No practice due to county track meet. headbusta??? are you Nostradamus??? how do you know how smart(or not) Lucas Wall is??? Better head to Vegas if you are that enlightened. It is way too early to make any judgements on Wall's mental abilities when it comes to football. He took less than 50 snaps last year mostly when games were already decided. Do know that he isn't a freaking moron so at least give the guy a chance.
