  1. It was a great game and both teams got some bad calls. But just to make a few comments to some of your responses: Shaggy 22 - I agree, Coach Green AGAIN lost his temper and it cost Cleveland 4 foul shots plus the ball to BCHS and you are absolutely right, Coach Green has a terrible history of blowing up and being argumentive with the refs. Unless you were actually sitting at the scorers table, how do you know for sure what Coach Green said. Sometimes Coaches need to know when to hold um' and when to fold um'. Officials do not appreciate being yelled at the entire game and criticized about their officiating from coaches. To TNball00 - I believe you in saying that Coach Green looked at the ref and yelled you are pathetic because it is not the first time. It was a good decision by the officials because they are in control. Sometimes if we learn to keep our mouths shut in tight situations, we come out on top. To those who were sitting at the talble and you actually heard what Coach Green said, you need to come forward and contact the Supervisor of the Athens Association and let them know that their officials made a bad call. When adults are put over children to be their superiors, they need to act as the adult and not like the child. Sometimes the examples we show children as adults rub off on them because they think we are right. I am not getting religious but the bible says once a man and twice a child. Are some of our men becoming that child quicker or have they never become a man. Good luck to both CHS and BCHS and may the best team win and win on the floor, not from the coaches or the officials.
  2. IT should be a good game but mcb14, I disagree. If they do win, it definitely won't be because Green did such a great job at coaching, GET REAL.
  3. Baconbreathe, I agree. A well-coached team will bounce back and BCHS will. Isn't it nice to be rated on respect and tradition. If Kent continues at BCHS, he will have a lot of our grandsons.
  4. Bradley is a very good team. They have a great coach in Kent Smith. I am a #1 CHS fan but somewhere in life we all have to accept and face reality. Kent Smith has a very disciplined team and they all respect him as their Coach. He treats each player the same and he is a people person. You see him interacting with all athletes in the community, not just Bradley. Look for him sometimes at the local recreation centers, Lee University and even the YMCA. He gives respect therefore he recieves respect. I hope that they go all the way.
  5. Bigbadblue, I was around when the program changed from Bobby Scott to Ronnie Weir to Benny Monroe to Leon Brown. Out of four you named, I would probably only have picked Mark Tipton. My reasoning is because number one he was a great TEACHER as well as coach. He was concerned about academics as well as athletics. I think he would have been his own head coach and fell to the good ole' boy syndrom. I think that is what made Benny a good coach. He WAS the head coach and he didn't mind letting his staff know that. As far as crying racism, I don't have to I live in it and trust me we still have a long way to go. Affirmative action may suppose to play a role but trust me it does not. Isn't it sad that we had to hire Grant because of Del & Vincent and not because of his ability. I guess that is why he is a Supervisor in the McMinn County School system, his ability and leadership. Leon was and still is a great role model for all kids and he cared about all kids. Can you say that for the others? It matters not to me because I will support CHS regardless to who is here. I have no influence just like you and everyone else, I have an opinion. What is it worth? NOTHING. I just hope that whoever comes on board will be his own man and not be influenced by money, politics or the color or ones skin.
  6. I just hope whoever comes on board that the community and all the Blue Raider Supporters and Fans will be as interested in how these young men are doing academically as well as athletically. It seems that no matter who comes on board, they will have a job and they will have a lot of athletic support but the young men who will be playing ball need to have the athletic as well as academic support so that they can continue on a higher level after high school with even college or a good job. We seem to have forgotten that not all players on those state Championship teams went to college or even have a good job. You figure and decide where they are.
  7. You are exactly right. It does not matter who is coaching a team, there needs to be support for the program and the coach. Cleveland does have upcoming talent and we shall rise again but I hope that fans will support whoever comes. It was stated that, "Brown didn't do bad, he just didn't do what us Raider fans expected...we just got used to winning. Part of that is true, but I have been around when we didn't win. We never remember the past unless it was good. Benny's record turned out great but remember it took about 19 years and 54 of those wins came within 3 years (back to back) so that means that it took over 12 to 15 years to get to that point. I am not complaining, arguing or trying to be difficult, all that I am saying is that some of those faithful Raider supporters stayed around even doing the losing. We did not just surface after the winning began. I love to win but trust me I have lost a few in my days and I am still a DIE HARD RAIDER FAN. If we want to have a good successful program on and off the field, we must support the team and the coach. We must support them with our presence, our finances and our support other than Friday nights.
  8. First of all, I had not planned on responding to this post but after reading bigbadblue's post I could not resist. First of all Leon Brown was not hired because he was black. He was hired because he was the most qualified at the time. What does the COLOR OF A MAN'S SKIN have to do with his job. This statement was so racist and it sounded like something that would be said in the 50's, 60's and 70's but for goodness sake this is the 21st century. That's like saying that when Ray Grant was the head basketball coach, he was hired because he was black and won a state championship but we all know that was not the reason. It was because he was the most qualified and he had the talent. Please let's don't make this a black/white issue because if you do does that mean that every coach who has only been a head coach for 8 years and has a 60 and 38 record will have to resign because if it does we could be changing a lot. Leon was not only a good head coach but he was and still is a great man who cares about children. Look at all the guy's that he helped to get in college. Even bigbadblue said that coaches don't lose their jobs after a winning season so he asked, "Why in the sam heck did Leon leave CHS? Well he has not left CHS. He only resigned as the head football coach. Hopefully whoever is hired will realize that he followed a legend in Benny and that he was a part of Benny's winning team.
  9. You are exactly right. There does need to be some changes. If you didn't win at Central, what made us think you were going to win here? Are we going to continue to be in this situation or will there be changes made?
  10. OK, CHSbaseball27, you all have not always been at the top of your game. For one it is not you decision to get rid of anybody, Coach Brown included. Walker Valley is not a measly school and they play everybody in their district just like us. Continue with your education and maybe one day you will become an administrator who has to make major decisions. I will agree with you in saying that some changes need to be made. Coach Brown is the "HEAD COACH" and everyone needs to understand that including his assistants and his players. He needs to be included in all decision making changes especially the football plays. You are contradicting yourself when you say that we have a good offensive coordinator, but he needs to install a new offense of somthing because we have the potential with the qb that we have. If he knows that then why do we need to install something different. Why don't the coaches trust the recievers. I think that Coach Brown's act is straight, maybe he needs to straighten up his staff and players. Don't always step on people when they are down, support them and help them to move up. GO RAIDERS!!!
  11. Benny Monroe from Cleveland High School.
  12. Are we talking about teams in the 2004 Basketball Tournaments or have the hands of time been turned back to 2002 Football?
  13. To luvthoseowls: Very well spoken. I agree with what you said. It is not a matter of bashing anyone but when kids who are fighting feel like they are portraying an adult that has acted that way, it seems to me that the adult has made an impact on the kids. I would hope that it would have been positive but apparently it was not. We should practice what we preach. You cannot teach discipline if you are not disciplined yourself. I was always taught that "the truth hurts", but "the truth will set you free". You have spoken only the truth, that's why you can speak loud. You are exactly right, I can name several coaches who are very well respected and are trying to teach the kids - to name a few, Robert High, Kent Smith, the coaches from Chattanooga Central, Walker Valley, Ooltewah and the list could go on. A classy and fair coach would never lose their cool in a way that it would be embarrassing to their program. Every parent and fan should support the program of their school but how can anyone support wrong doings. I don't care who it is or where it happens, right is right and wrong is wrong and what happened the night in question was definitely "WRONG".
  14. I agree. I am a Cleveland fan and nobody has ask me if they could be my spokesperson or if I was proud. I think this is something that the higher ups will have to look at. Cleveland has been and will continue to be a great school with great athletics. Adults should carry themselves in a professional manner especially if they are trying to be a role model for children. They do follow and pattern what they see. To Bigpoppa, your comment was well spoken. If any coach would spend time working with their team and not the officials, the game would be better. Yes, some officials do make bad calls, but who does not make a mistake every now and then. Officials are human to and if they started ranting and raging everytime a fan yelled at them they would spend most of the game fussing with the fans. You guys (and gals) have a tough job officiating but you are the ones in control of the game and if you make the call then coaches need to be reasonable and professional in their questioning you. After all, the final decision is yours.
  15. I agree 100%. He does have a lot of help. Whether he is on the deep end or the shallow edge it was definitely not appropriate behavior for any coach especially a HEAD coach to act in the manner that he did. Yes, maybe he did deserve 4 seconds put back on the clock but would 4 seconds have that made a that big difference being 5 points behind and playing the way the team was playing. We will never know. And the sad part is that will be forgotten by the next season but will the HEAD coach's behavior of a 3-A school be forgotten so quick.
  16. Both transcripts did show up and TSSAA proved him elgible. What else do you want THEM (TSSAA) to do - LIE. If they start to do that then nobody in the state will be able to have faith in anybody that is in control. They investigated, proved what was right and made a decision. The season will be over for everyone in about 3 weeks so MOVE ON. I am sure that those of you who have nothing better to do than try to start trouble will now find fault in Track, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball and any other Spring Sport that I have missed since you have already attacked Football and Basketball.
  17. Do you mean that the Cleveland people have that much influence over the TSSAA (who governs the whole state) to have something as you say covered up. I don't think so. Move on to something bigger and better to talk about.
  18. Blik, I agree with you 100%. How can you be the best coach when you have only coached high school for less than 5 years and come into the program with no coaching experience under your belt. I think Robert High of Brainerd is a great coach and Kent Smith from Bradley gets my vote for maturity and class.
  19. Texas 23, I think you are exactly right. This forum could be drug out until the end of March. Let's move on. It does not matter who wants Green to stay and who wants him to leave. It is not left up to us.
  20. Coach Brown was not the coach that taught summer school. Please contact the athletic director, principal or director of schools if you want the real truth. They all 3 will give you the correct information if you ask, but they will not discuss it with you on a web site.
  21. Texas 23, I got my information from an employee of a local stove factory who had to work numerous Saturdays and Sundays because of a screwed up order. Therefore, I am glad you ask me because as far as the fact about the stoves, I did not know, I just know what I was told. Yes, Cleveland has graduated some fine people, from millionaires to a West Point Graduate to come from the very first class at CHS. There is no mystery - - - we all are teachers of some kind, some just know their subject area and they try to leave everybody else's alone. Therefore since I am not a football or basketball coach, I cannot make a coaches statement. I can just do like everyone else does if I so choose, (which I don't) and that is talk about things that you know nothing about, you just talk. Have a Merry Christmas!! I am in for a great 2 week break.
  22. Just to add to the statement that Coach Brown has made an idiot of himself shows how ignorant you are. You must have been affiliated with cussing, fussing and men who cared nothing about the kids, just winning.
  23. Cowboy, your title fits you and the only fool that I have found is YOU. How do you know that I am not a teacher? Maybe I am one of those who works longs hours, never misses a day and it concerned about all students whether they play sports or not. Some jobs will do things over and over, just ask some of the adults who work at some of the stove factories about the 10,000 + stoves that were run incorrectly and had to be reworked and not only caused people to stay after regular hours and work overtime but also on Saturday and Sunday. If you fail a college class are you not given the opportunity to take it over in the summer. Just let me know if times have changed since I was in college or high school for that matter. No school is perfect. Not Cleveland nor your favorite Bradley but they both should be about the business of educating students by whatever means necessary whether it be after school or in the summer. CHS has graduated some very fine educated people and by your comments, I am sure that you are not one of them. Ride 'em cowboy.
  24. Hopefully this will be my last reply to this situation. Yes, Jay is 18 and must take responsibility. Also those who are over 18 need to take responsibility with their harsh tongues. Wrong is wrong regardless if it is by actions or by mouth. Everyone knows that this whole situation was targeted at Coach Brown to make him look bad. If we had more teachers, whether they were coaches or not to give of their time to help more kids be successful and pass classes then we would not have to have summer school because they would be working throughout the year. I think this has targeted athletics but what about the kid who has no coach or advocate to give him or her a second chance to pass a class. Who do we blame if they don't have a coach. I respect the coaches that gave of their time to teach classes and not recieve an extra dime for doing it. If academic olympics would do the same just think of how many students could participate whether they came from good homes or not. The education of a child whether he be 18 and in high school or 21 and in college, he deserves every opportunity to retest, retake and repeat to be successful. Thanks to those dedicated educators who are willing to help. In closing, let me say Gov, I have enjoyed corresponding with you. All you have done was ask concerned questions to which everyone deserves an answer and I am sure that they will get one. If not I would like to contact YOU and let you read a personal documentation. Thanks.
