  1. YANKEE8589 - WOW ??“ I take it that this is kind of sore spot with you huh! You??™re not one of the prima donnas are you? I never said you couldn??™t say negative things??¦ just strange that there hasn??™t been some censoring by the police??¦ ha! As far as I am concerned you can say all you want about me or any other coach, but the real question is ??“DO YOU HAVE THE INTESTINAL FORTITUDE TO SAY IT TO HIS FACE??? Again, my feelings are you don??™t??¦. you can hide behind that this is childish, but the question is still real... Two things I am not fond of ??“ wimpy coaches that have a hand shake like a girl and are known perverts (thanks for printing my quotes, you are a scholar and a gentleman ??“ I just hope the pervert comment doesn??™t offend you) and Yankees (fans, players and coaches) ??“ you say you are 5??™ 210 ??“ sounds like Don Zimmer to me??¦ Did you see that fight between him and Pedro??¦ whoa.. the guy is a little fireball ??“ not much of a fighter, but you have to admire his courage??¦he does stand up for what he believes in... One thing I do like - I confess!! I am like about 100 million Americans out there ??“ I am not a prima donna ??“ I like to see knock down pitches - I don??™t like to see these NBA types hug each other after championship games ??“ I like to see a good fight break out between passionate athletes and coaches??¦. I like the Detroit Piston Bad Boys??¦ and I like to see the Odle??™s get out there scrap with the umps ??“ I??™d love to see the face on that umpires face when he tore that rule book up ??“ where did he throw it ??“ that is a once in a lifetime event??¦.. All I got to say is ??“ if you are Don Zimmer, take some fighting lessons before you face up with Terry cause it is going to be a disaster??¦ by the way??¦ if you sell tickets to this event, I??™d like to buy one ??“ shame on me??¦ Now don??™t go say something negative here??¦ But, as for coaches, Terry Odle is a class act??¦ he is truly passionate.. and is a winner??¦that makes players want to play for him.. you can??™t take that away from him with any negative statements??¦
  2. Oh man.. I'd give anything to see Odle out there stirring it up with the umps... I am kind of surprised the venerable coacht has let so many negative comments about Terry go on this thread. I'd give anything to see this guy "yankee---" say the things he says indirectly about Terry to Terry's face... My bet he doesn't have the kahoonas to do it... he might find out who is really the "little man" ... Right, wrong, indifferent, I'll take Terry Odle any day on this argument.. For all you coacht purist, that think that baseball should be played your way, and that Odle is a "jerk".. ha! What I find funny is... there are alot of baseball players and their parents that want their children to play for Odle.... why do you think that is??? Because Terry has intensity, cares for his players, and loves the game. Oh by the way... Terry also has the tenacity to stand up for what he thinks is right, rather than get pushed around by some of these inept TSSAA umpires in key games. Which would you rather play for ??? a prima donna coach that believes the best coaches sit on the bench, keep their mouths shut and take their loss with gracefulness or for a fireball like Terry Odle that is willing to lay it on the line to get win??? Last time I checked... Terry has been a winner... not some weak kneed graceful loser....
  3. after a short stint at the chain factory - I think the community college (Western State) down at Bolivar hired him... they were fairly impresssed with his 20 games per year record.. I heard Jack Nicholson put in good word for him while nurse Ratchet is holding the line....go figure, just can't hold him down....
  4. hey hey meyer1191!!! I am not sure exactly who had influence in hiring him, but my gut feel is this coach will be ok if he can stay away from the wall monkeys and from school board members/administrators that want their children, grand children or friend's children to play ball. If he gets wrapped up in the importance of being "the coach" at LHS then you will see the normal disasters that have happened in the past... I think there are some that are wanting to change things toward a program with high integrity and hopeful they were the key in making the pick for Coach Qualls. That is why I believe they went outside the buddy system to get him. Hopeful he will gear the team to play against the SSides and Bolivars because they are the mountains that must be crossed to get to the big trophies, but if he schedules a soft year and runs around beating up all the little guys trying to achieve 20 wins each year, then expect the same results as in the past. You are a great team player with a great attitude - be careful on this forum - it is not as innocent as it looks - there are underlying things that go on that can come to haunt your hs bball career if misunderstood - i know your question comes from a honest heart , but be careful..... good luck this year!!!!!! LHSSW
  5. how can you be a teacher of good values and character when you would resort to cheating/recruiting ??? what is strange , no coach on this website even challenged this thought - sadly disappointing - so why be surprised when you have parents and players that challenge you as coach when you have a morality problem that involves cheating???? where does your cheating stop???? how does anyone trust you?????
  6. Contrary to what some may believe, Lexington has some really good athletes and there is potential to compete with Bolivar/Liberty. This would be an excellent coaching positioning for the right person. Lexington is a basketball town - awesome gym and fans. With the right coach, there is no reason why this team could not have a drastic change similar to what Liberty has done. My guess is Clement is front runner for this job. Clement has already shown within a couple of weeks that he can make the current team play at another level. He is making a believer out of me. Obviously he is bringing a new look to the Tiger program. The one thing I like about Clement is he is upbeat and positive with the entire team. He is making some of the players on the team play huge at this point. Don't want to sound discouraging, but if you don't have an excellent track record (both on/off court) you may be facing a real uphill battle.
  7. I agree with your observations about Clement. He is proving that the right 5 on the floor can make a difference. Amazing how different a team can look in just a couple of weeks. Clement may be the man... we will see.... As for Gardner - yikes! is there no shame especially after getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar.........
  8. TO THE BEAVE and WASHED UP Beave - you say I obviously don't know anything about bball and Washed UP - you say Lexington doesn't deserve to be in the same league with Bolivar ..... Wellll I don't want to say I told you so, but we are turning some corner here by beating Southside without your hero(obviously we got spanked by them earlier). I still say Lexington has had the horspower to compete and beat the tougher teams regardless of what you say. When you have a coach that puts the right players on the floor, neat things start happening. When the players know that the coach is not into ulterior motives - even better things start happening. P.A. Lin-Z - good things are happening - Terry Clement I thought originally was an excellent coach, but I still have reservations about him. He did not stand up and challenge Gardner when we needed someone to make things right and put the right 5 on the court. He was part of the yes group - the good old boys that BEAVE and Washed Up are a part of. Believe me only good things are on the horizon.... my gut feel is we need all new outlook on our program - a good house cleaning with the right people at the helm will make a big difference. What is interesting is that the good old boy network has been jacked up by some of the women in our administration that have the guts to challenge the "good old boy system". They are the ones that should be admired. What does a man that has a drivers ed degree do now???? BEAVE tell your hero I heard Dominoes needs some help with a good driving record .........
  9. sorry beave, i wrote with a little more emotion than i should have - my apologies. believe me though, nothing will happen like this in my life, i guarantee that! think what you will about me, but the whole picture will become clearer later - the whole mindset of what has happened here to this young person this year - to take advantage of a loaner (both on/off court), and then hide behind this certain smoke and mirror facade is the nature of the beast. he truly is one of the best snake oil salesmen. there has been a huge protective wall around him (even some of the leaders when confronted with this issue chose to ignore it - a pathetically bad decision in my book), those that protect him via your same arguements/thought processes and he has ruled with an iron fist/untouchable... it is your choice to continue to hold him in high esteem regardless of what he has done and mine not to. i guess we could get into a match about who knows more bball, but i will leave it alone. the key is this - putting the best 5 that represent Lexington on on the floor and then let it play out , this has not happened in 6 yrs, looks like clement may be headed that way - we will see...... GAME OVER, he is yours..................
  10. eloquent pontification - smooth and gracious - thanks for your adulation but I don't need it. huge axe to grind - duh!! are you sherlock holmes or 007 ! - you are brilliant, let me guess, drivers ed major? like i said it has to do with young people getting ripped. think about this - why do you think i selected the name hackashaq??? also in your brilliant review of my remarks - WHO said it wasn't earned??? Wasn't me. Have you tried this method and it didn't work??? believe me, Bolivar/Liberty have earned it, Sammy Fisher and his '70s Lexington teams earned it , and Lexington will earn it again in the future when the right system is in place. You say you know the "lonely feeling" , comparing yourself to Gardner's situation, DO YOU?? gag, forgive me, i don't mean "to pile on" here, but if that is so - could it be that you have that "enormous lack of character" you so "eloquently pontificated" about? Do you know the lonely feeling some good solid young people might feel when their spirit has been broken by one that is hiding behind the name coach and is allowed to rule with an iron fist??? You say "Coach" Gardner and "VERY good basketball coach" all in the same breath and with great respect, go ahead defend him, you sound like an expert to me - i'll check back with you next week....... at that point "you will have earned" that "lonely feeling". The Eloquent Pontificator , Axe Grinder, or hackashaq - take your pick beave
  11. Well let me suggest you don't understand.... and I don't believe you understand Bball either - I did not say that we were the equivalent of a Bolivar team either, but if we listen TO YOUR CRITICISM that Lexington doesn't even deserve to be on the court with Bolivar then that is a self defeatist attitude that never achieves . Liberty was built into a dominating powerhouse within a 4 year period - I know that we have HAD TEAMS that could have pulled off the big upset at least ONE year out of 6 entire years!!! Surely if Liberty can pull off being equal to and better than Bolivar, Lexington could have at minimum pulled off a big upset game that put us in the tournament over a 6 year period. The chance to play Sycamore last year should have been one of the doors, but we got spanked by them just like we did by a Bolivar - Humboldt - Liberty - and believe me Sycamore is no Bolivar or Liberty. Scholarships at D1 level are not what is at stake - it is the basic human right that all young people in high school deserve to be treated with respect.. there were some that were stepped on every year while Gardner played a self aggrandizing schedule that allowed a huge amount of manipulation and frustration for a few players during the 6 year he was there. The monster that has been hiding his face behind all of this is about to fleshed out before your very eyes. Bomar is probably not all world either, but he deserves just as much respect as being the key player on our team as Mack was given. Yes, Mack was good, but he was not the Kobe Bryant as he was being promoted as which also put a huge burden on his back to carry. The right players and chemistry have not been on the court. There is a huge amount of politics that goes on in this town, and the idea has been if you have the ball, then you rule and don't challenge the ruler. Contrary to what you may say "washedup" (man that name even sounds self defeatist), Lexington is a basketball town and has huge potential if the right combination of players and coach are put together. Like I said and will always say, Bolivar is a similar small town like ours and there is nothing in the water down there that produces super athletes in their area. I think your criticism about our team "not having the athletes" and then saying you "wish us nothing but luck " is speaking out of both sides of your face. And luck does not play a part of having a winning team.......keep your luck to yourself while we find the coach that will demand respect from people like yourself.....
  12. I am in agreement about Mack, but the web of ego, pride and deceit also reached out and affected select few. Some can come in sheeps clothing and make you think they are what is good and pure. But the wolf has shown his teeth and some have actually woke up to reality. I am sure there are many like 'Washedup" that will defend him to the end - which to me is horrific considering the issue at hand. I have even heard that some of the leaders when shown proof, were selecting to ignore this - that is even worse. Washedup - you say "boyfriend" ??- are you sick also? that is a warped and disgusting question. You need to check your moral compass........ Macnarry, that was a school board member that went off on Fisher - which was crazy. And Fisher did take the team to the regions the year prior to Gardner getting there - even with all the chaos that surrounded him - and without a coat and tie... Fisher would have been fine and probably would have been able to push us deeper into the state tournament if he chose to stay. From what I understand he wanted to retire. Solomon I still say, the best thing is to wipe the slate clean and give someone with different ideas a chance at running the show. Forney/Johnson would be a great pick. Who is the guy down in Savannah - there program was tough about 5 years ago, but their wheels fell off after that. If it is who I think it is, I'd probably agree - but the down seasons scare me a bit. What is going on with Savannah??
  13. Sorry Solomon, I know you are tight with Gardner, but why do you say "disgrace" for me to pull for Johnson and Forney as coaches??? I would put money on it that our one and done days would be over in the regions (but you must give them the same time frame 6 yrs that Gardner has been given to form the team). Sounds like you might have an agenda for someone in Savannah........ Again, sorry for hurting your feeling about Gardner but you might be distancing yourself from him when you get the final story........
  14. Interesting thought you have after seeing/hearing about this game - I won't go as far as to say Lexington could have been a Bolivar type powerhouse, but over the past 6 years we have had the athletes to pull of some big upsets if the right coach was guiding our team. I'd love to see Forney or Johnson get there chance at working with the team, but something tells me the local politics will destroy that. We just need a someone without an agenda that can be affected by politics that can see the true athlete and put the right combination on the floor. Alot of folks wonder how Bolivar puts a high quality team on the floor every year (and it is not because of the water either) - key is the coach and community pride/expectations . It can be done at LHS too.
  15. "inappropriate behavior" ??? I'll say this Jackson Sun won't be looking him up for a hero story anymore, Dateline might come calling though............. bank on it, he is like his record - one and done......................
  16. Good thoughts - I agree with you .. and admire you for what you are doing because there are (sadly) quiet a few thugs that don't care about team play and if you can give them a "life changing event" in there education without blowing a gasket, more power to you. It just takes too much energy to focus on a superior athlete that has the thug mentality - it is just poison to the rest of the team. Good luck.
  17. "Bomar one heck of a player " I agree. What is sad he was a really good player last year but he had to sit in the back seat because of Gardner's ulterior selfish goals. I wonder if finally he will rate as an "official college" prospect on Coacht now that Leon is gone. You might find out the who the real horses are on the team now. Since Gardner mentored Clement, I don't think you are going to see anymore improvement in the tournament. But it looks like he has a chance to prove it. If he doesn't do it this year, they should open the door to some fresh thinking like Forney. Has anyone heard about Dateline coming to Lexington?? Where is that smooth juker when you need him?
  18. winy 42 - You know the old saying, stupid is as stupid does - let's just say that Gump was thinking of your coach.... Your son did not lose the game for his team - the team lost the game. Basketball is a team sport and a good coach will not allow one person to carry the burden of a loss. Your son alone feels the deep pain of making the mistake and doesn't need a reminder (sadly) from the coach he is supposed to look up to. Telling your son he lost the game is insane. A good coach, yes is upset that the game goes down on last second mess up, but he realizes that it is water under the bridge and that there will be another day. I am not sure about your son, he may have ice water running in his veins and that is great, but for the other 99% of 13 years olds, if the same game situation occurs, they will feel the pressure doubled and failure will be inevitable. Frankly, your coach is total moron and makes me sick! I hope your son has a chance to play for a top notch coach - he deserves it. There are extremes to everything - and believe me Bobby Knight (which is obviously not the norm ) doesn't pick on 12 -13 yr olds that make mistakes. How long do you sit back and let your child take it??? Do you let him do a Woody Hayes beat down on your kid and turn your head?? Or how about you just let the coach give him 5 licks with a paddle to even things up for the loss (I'd rather take that, than have a coach tell me I loss the game in front of my peers); this should prevent him from making a mistake at the end of the game next time. Like I said there are extremes........ Jhite - You are under way too much pressure. You say you have to get 9 players ready for life and 1 to play college ball, assuming we are talking about major college ball, then you are obviously in the wrong place, the pros need you! As for the other 9 players - you might want to ask a parent for some help or maybe some of the teachers to take that burden off your shoulders - but some want all the credit. What in the world happens to the other million children that don't have coaches and are not interested in sports - do they just fall off the end of the earth?? I would guess there are no chances for them to become doctors or lawyers. OK, ok - I am only kidding with you. Basketball is only a game. It is not the determining factor in how successful a person is going to be in life - it is a very small part of a child's overall development (it can be a very memorable part of their life). By the way, did you hear about the high school player shoving the ref to the floor tonight on ESPN??? You are right, society is changine rapidly - freshman play early (sometimes they just skip right on to pros) - I am going to say, if you are around long enough, and take a chance on beating down a "thug", you might get a beat down yourself and society will be saying - hey he is pro, we want him (sad)!!! I still say the best deal is to cut a run - sit him on the bench, if he doesn't get the message, then he is off the team. The team will grow from this experience as a whole, and hopefully the thug will come to his senses without tearing down the team.
  19. You are missing the point. Never said all coaches have hidden agenda, just some. The coach I am thinking of that has a hidden agenda, wins with a soft schedule, then fails at tournament time, he is in the wrong business (he is in it for his own ego). As for TO, Parcells knew that yelling at him would only cause massive trouble on the team (ref. Philadelphia team, they learned early on). The problem for Parcells/Jones is that he was trying to win the big one with a short cut (taking a chance on thugs that would get them over the hump). It is kind of sad that Parcells sold his soul to try to get to the top (and I don't really think he wanted to, but Jones forced it on him), but that is what the big bucks do to you. What I am saying is that yelling at high school athletes does not help either (especially the thugs), simple putting them on the bench and letting playing time be the dictator - if he doesn't get the message, then let him go. Of course, some coaches don't want to do that, so they try to use force. I am going to bet that there are very few coaches that would have the kahoonas to get up in Sprewells face and work on his psyche - that is when you can take a gut check and rethink how you treat people with this general Patton stuff. Have you ever seen a limp hand shaking high school coach that bends down to the Sprewell thug athlete?? I have..... You still didn't answer the main question - if yelling at a student/athlete is so successful in teaching him what to do, why don't they do it in the class room?? Bush is the blame for everything else - Iraq........ ha!
  20. Great thoughts!!! The positive energy necessary to get over negative comments is amazing. The team as a whole moves backwards when a coach is into this method of teaching his student/athlete. Voreb, I notice some seem to think that yelling is what we are challenging. It is not yelling - pushing the volume up to be heard for direction while in a crowd. It is humiliation. Berating a person in front of a crowd. Again this is tantamount to psychological warfare. When you have a coach with pe degree, with a hidden agenda, and huge ego, he shouldn't be allowed to constantly use demeaning and derogatory actions toward any student/athlete on the court. Yes, he should be able to use discipline on the court. Unless you have a psychology degree, I would say that it is not best for most coaches to use humiliation as tool to get his way. A couple of questions for you: 1. Did you see Bill Parcells trying to yell at T. Owens this year??? If bending an egotistically/head strong athlete down with open public humiliation is so successful, why did he not do it to TO?? Do you remember Danny Ainge/Robert Horry?? Or how about Sprewell and PJ Carlesimo? Wonder if you did that to a high school player and he decked the coach??? You are using the "thug" mentality to relate to a human being - don't be surprised if you don't see the "thug" come out of the player on the court. 2. If humiliation is so successful in teaching an athlete to do the right thing, then why is it not used in the class room?? There are alot of really good coaches out there, and this is not pointed at them. Even some of the best get caught in the heat of the moment and pop a cork - but in most cases that is unusual for them. That is not the coach I am worried about. Solomon Some coaches are enamored with themselves. Put a suit on the guy, let him schedule a weak schedule, and he gets a large number of wins, but his charade is brought to light during the tournament every year. You sit back and watch this coach play mind games on good solid athletes that need encouragement (remember that you need 100 positive to overcome 1 negative - see tnwareales comments) so that he can break their confidence down and play the lesser athlete during meaningless games that he is building his ego on. Like I said, tournament time fleshes out these weaker players and the coaches plan. I know you are a big fan of the coach I am thinking of, but I think you are about to see his true side very soon!!! Discpline on a team is important, but to let a coach with a hidden agenda have the key to the town while breaking young people down to feed his ego is a travesty to everyone involved.
  21. I would agree with you - some serious stuff is in the balance on this one. Don't you think it would be nice to pray for the victims? I don't think it is about he love of basketball either......... Solomon One point about agendas - the street runs two ways .
  22. Coach Forney!!!!! Awesome!!! what great young man and a breath of fresh air!!!! Could it be??? Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy (go Colts, OK, OK! I know this is basketball) - a change in direction??? My take is Forney would be a great change of pace that LHS is ready for. The game has moved on, and I believe Forney could bring some vision that is definitely needed at this. I really believe he can see the game beyond the politics and put together the right players on the floor - What about a Coach Johnson/Forney - that could be some real chemistry that we need to get over the "one and done" problems. Rumor has it Gardner has more problems coming up the road, sounds like some other families are lining up to approach the administration- sounds like pandoras box is opening up, stay tuned, the excitement is only beginning - Hey if we have suffered through Wilkinson and board member craziness in the past, we will make it through this - really good things might be on the horizon.
  23. dead program? depends on your perspective - in fact, the team prior to his grand arrival at Lexington achieved the same results in the regionals that has been produced over the past years - so if you think it was dead then - i guess it is dead now.......... so last year we go up to the weaker Nashville area to play the region with supposedly our best player ever, expecting great things and we get spanked by about 20 points?believe me, we have the players to play at a higher level. Be careful, snake oil can mess you up!
