  1. eagle .... I kinda like the five games/five sites idea. There are pros and cons, of course, such as what do those football fans who would like to see all five games do? But, still, an idea worth looking into. .... As far as playing the games at Vandy, do you really think it sends a positive message to the kids to send them out to play for the state's ultimate H.S. football prize on the field of one of college football's biggest losers? I mean, talk about your irony. ..... My thing about playing at The Coliseum or in Chatt is based on those stadiums getting the new field turf, which is good stuff. .... The idea of playing at H.S. sites is interesting, too, but I would hate to see fans turned away at the gate b/c the stadium wasn't big enough. I'd rather have 10,000 too many seats than one seat too few.
  2. I wanna make some of quick points: 1. I think what Tinkle and his gang do on Friday nights, with games on play-by-play, and Saturday mornings is great for H.S. sports in NW Tennessee. B/c of them, a lot of our schools, be they in Weakley County, Gibson County or even Obion County, get a lot of coverage they normally would not get. You take them and what WENK does with Union City, and you have a wide variety of H.S. sports coverage in this area. 2. I'm not a big fan of what 104.9/105.7 are doing, but I don't have any control over it other than to voice my opinion. I've done that, so I won't do it anymore .... unless I'm just overcome with a thought. (Which does not happen very often. I had a thought once, but it died of loneliness.) .... I will say this, though: The folks running those stations should take note that this thread now has 10 PAGES of comments and none of them by people not associated with the stations are positive. 3. If this topic has convinced me of anything, it has made me an even stronger believer that an all-sports talk radio station would work in our little rural corner of the galaxy. ..... Hint, Hint. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  3. Well, I know some people associated with the UC Booster Club, but I'm a little uncomfortable about putting their names and addresses/phone numbers in an open forum like this ... even though I know it would be perfectly safe with our tight-nit coachT group. .... The thing to do, I think, would be to contact the high school and someone there can give you all the info you'll need. ..... And, please follow up b/c I'm sure the Booster Club would love to hear from any an all alums. .... speaking of, I need to join up, too.
  4. Count me in. I'll do what I can to get info on Union City, Obion Central and South Fulton.
  5. Once opposed to the rotation idea, I am now an advocate of it. What high school kid in Tennessee wouldn't want the opportunity to play at the Real Big House in K-ville, or an NFL stadium (which is where the games should be played if moved to Nashville). I also like the idea of playing in Chattanooga and even Memphis (even though I'm no big fan of the city) and, of course, keeping MTSU in the rotation. ... And, lets not just do it for football. There are plenty of nice hoops arenas in this state as well when you look at Gaylord in Nashville, the soon-to-open FedExForum in Memphis and The Oversized House in K-ville. The Roundhouse in Chatt. is a very nice facility. And, of course, The Boro should stay in the rotation. .... Just my thoughts.
  6. Ah .... all that free food. Hey, did y'all know you actually have to PAY at the concession stand?!?!?!? OC has really put itself into a hole by opening the season with three home losses. A loss next week at Covington would all but eliminate the Rebs from a homefield playoff game in the first round. ..... So, my boy Cartman and his mates need a quick turnaround.
  7. Just posting to keep this topic on the front page so all the Friday night post-gamers can see it. ..... Love the idea and am willing to help.
  8. Actually, I'm being a bit rough on the Lords of the TSSAA .... They will, of course, look carefully over all the options, take the financial circumstances of each individual school into consideration, pay very close attention to the valuable input of all the coaches ..... And then do whatever the @#$& they wanna do.
  9. Ok, I'm gonna go out on a limb here (being that its two hours since the game ended and I was there) .... Westview - 48 Central - 28 Can I count this "prediction" in The Big Ones?
  10. Well, anyone have any thoughts on the play-by-play from Tinkle on the OC game? ... Driving home, after dropping off one car-pooler and on the way to pick up another, we cruised past the WQAK-QAK building. No lights on. No one home. BTW ... a quick shout-out to Jennifer and Jeanette, who have apparently cracked the code to my secret identity. .... SC or F-H, huh Jenn?? Well, good luck when the tip-off comes.
  11. The only reason I'm posting is b/c this is a very good topic and I want more people to take a look at it and follow the advice offered.
  12. At Union City, the gym is known as the Thunderdome to some. I think there was a time when some people tried to dub the football stadium, officially known as War Memorial Stadium, as "The Storm Center" to go with the school's Golden Tornadoes nickname, but it has never really caught on.
  13. Just about any of the pieces off the "Classical Thunder" CD. .... By the way, I only posted to take something from the last page of this forum and put it on the front page.
  14. And, don't misunderstand me, I'm not knocking teachers. Probably the most thankless job there is. I sure wouldn't want to be one. I'm just pointing out what they're saddled with when the NEA passes down its agenda (go to its website) and school systems chime right in. It costs money to add all those non-essential classes simply to be "inclusive" and to promote "cultural diversity" when, in fact, anyone with an opposing view to theirs does NOT have a seat at the table. ..... This drifts somewhat from the topic at hand, I know. But, if you want to know why a coach in a rural Tennessee county is getting his supplement cut, you have to take a look at the big picture. And, you have to have the courage to face some ugly realities of life.
  15. "The First Family of Tennessee" .... great post.
  16. And, I'm already started on another amazing and historical "Second Century" of posts. ..... Ok, Ok, enough of the off-topic posts. ..... "No Play-by-Play, no Peace!!" .... How's that?!?!?
  17. I have to think they will, but I haven't seen any kind of structure on that side, yet.
  18. If all the band fans get on here and find this forum, there will be so many posts that it will shut down the system. .... I'll have to give a nod to the Union City High School Golden Tornado Marching Band. Half the school's student body participates, they have performed in the Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl parades, they're going to Hawaii for Spring Break. There is one major college bowl game parade where they have an open invitation to attend, and the band has its own Purple and Gold semi truck with the phrase "Haulin' Brass" painted on it. ... And, while this last statement might not put the UCHS fans in a good light, but how many other schools see a good portion of their fans heading toward the exits after the halftime show? Even during the state finals years of 1997 and 2000? Even the stadium staff at Vandy Stadium was surprised to see that big semi pull up prior to the 2A title game in 1997. .... Oh, they have a pretty good supply of first-place trophies from band competitions, too.
  19. Actually, the only reason I'm posting is b/c this will be (I think) the 100th post for me. ..... Sure, it's no "What hath God wrought?" or "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." .... but, what the heck? My first 99 were so moving and memorable anyway ....
  20. Anyone think S-D will be down emotionally this week after last week's big game? Wasn't it last week that S-D went to Red Bank, where the stadium is named after the current S-D coach, and S-D won the game pretty big? Just wondering. ... Oh, in West Tenn., I'm liking Lexington-Huntingdon, Ripley-Haywood, and maybe even Camden-Houston Co.
  21. This is a pretty good question and one that really makes sense to be informed on, especially since our great state with its Three Grand Divisions is bordered by eight other states. .... I've always found it interesting when checking the scoreboard to see one team playing a team out of Virginia, another playing one from No. Carolina, another playing one from Arkansas and so on and so on. .... I haven't checked the ticker, but I'm sure there are more Tenn-Kentucky matchups than any other.
  22. I say this on every other post, and I'll say it here: The Lords of the TSSAA will screw up the West Tenn. 1A regions b/c they are all so in love with Highway 51. I'll almost be willing to bet big bills that South Fulton, Union City, Halls and Manassas will all be in one region simply b/c of Hwy. 51. Then, don't be surprised if the schools that can afford to do it will offer to buy out Manassas' home game in the home-and-home contracts to keep from making the trip. If that becomes the case, I think the schools should send the bill to: Ronnie Carter, TSSAA Bunker, Hermitage, TN. My plea to the Lords: A North-South split in West Tennessee makes MUCH MORE SENSE than a Highway 51 split. PLEASE use common sense, not the road atlas!!!!!
  23. A quick side note on the new stadium: It is coming along nicely. I've driven by it several times in recent weeks and it's shaping up to be a nice 1A stadium. Also, they WILL be getting a track, too. So, that's a good thing. The last game in the old stadium will be homecoming, and SF will play twice (I think) in the new one this year. But, the official Opening Night will be held next year, to give the school administration time to plan a really big event. That will also allow all the little odds and ends to be fixed up and looking good for a celebration.
  24. I love the idea. .... I think a site like that could possibly be a substitute of each individual school having a website, which is something I have advocated. .... In addition to providing updated info on each school with game reports and so on, it could be a place where people could go to find comprehensive historical info on the schools. I have contact with people who have very detailed historical info on the three high schools in Obion County, and I know there used to be a site with similar info Trenton Peabody. Just something to think about. ..... GO FOR IT, and contact me for historical info on some of the teams. I'd be happy to help.
  25. And, the TSSAA will keep the school principals, er, I mean HEADMASTERS, of the schools where they have sent their children very happy while ticking off everyone else. .... Expect to see schools in the same counties separated and natural rivalries sacrificed in favor of travel on a four-lane highway. It's the TSSAA way.
