    Ryan Headrick

God's presence from the prayers of others is very comforting when your child is ill. I pray it helps the Headricks as it did my family. From Obion County our prayer is for Ryan's speedy recovery and his strength for the rest of the family.
  2. Steve is leaving to start the basketball programs, girls/boys, at the new Madison Academic Magnet in Jackson. I stand corrected. Girls B'ball and golf for both.
  3. I don't have any insight as to who will be hired but if Jonathan West wants it they better give it to him. He knows the game, is young and energetic, and comes from a good bloodline!
  4. Well spoken and worthy of a good mark. If you're not a teacher this thread is relevant to you only in how it will affect your favorite athletic team. The coaching carousel as people like to call it will grind to a halt with the NCLB. I agree ELA this appears to be good intentioned but has serious short-term ramifications!
  5. Can anyone post the results from the boys consolation/championship games in 15AA and the girls consolation. Only the girls championship is on the scoreboard and the scores didn't make the Commercial Appeal either. Boys Cons. Kingsbury-Manassas Boys Champ. Ridgeway-Raleigh-Egypt Girls Cons. Westside-Kingsbury Need these results to complete Region 8AA Brackets [Edited by NWhoopaholic on 3-2-03 8:46P]
  6. This is not a bash but a statement of an observation. Region 8a Tournament Director Chuck West, Dresden Principal, clearly instructed Trenton Peabody that all fans would have to wear shirts after receiving numerous complaints about being offended by Peabody students appearance last year. While the students who normally paint their chests to form a message were in compliance by instead wearing T-Shirts(looked good) one mother apparently felt like making a statement of definace by painting the chests of two young boys and allowing them to run around shirtless. Rules usually have reason behind them and when adults send this kind of message what are we teaching our young people?
  7. Since it was your biggest question I'll address the shooting issue. I've not seen JCM personally but it's not uncommon for coaches to have players go through a period of shooting free throws one-handed to improve their form. The off-hand is simply a guide-hand if your fundamentals are correct but too many young people get it in the wrong place and it messes up form. If you follow the BEEF method(B=balance, E=elbow straight, E=eye on target, F=follow through) that off-hand isn't needed.
  8. Westview plays the loser of Haywood Co-Fayette Ware On Thursday at 6:30 At Gibson Co.
  9. The District 15a games for 2/21 should be girls games not boys. Finals were Dresden 46 Greenfield 42 for 3rd & Gleason 44 South Fulton 41 for championship. Okay I see now it's just repeated. Boys games need to be deleted. [Edited by NWhoopaholic on 2-21-03 10:39P]
  10. Record on the schedule is incomplete. Lot of talent. Had chemistry problems early on but are playing well. Could be "wildcard" in Class A postseason.
  11. Point well made and one I will strongly consider. The rankings are not based just on records and since most of the teams you mentioned don't have many common opponents with the single A's that makes it pretty subjective. Brighton was ranked in first week but lost twice. Granted if your theory is correct to other good 2nd tier AA teams. When at full strength, I think South Fulton & Huntingdon could play with those teams. Maybe not now. Dresden is playing its best ball of the year. I stand behind theirs & Trenton's rank. I sincerely appreciate your input. You've made me think.
  12. Thanks for the positive input DC! That's worth a good mark!
  13. West Tenn. Top 10 Week Two (Previous week rank in parentheses) 1.Bolivar(1) Wins over #5 Haywood & #6 Humboldt solidify Tigers top spot. 2.Dyer Co.(2) Split with Lauderdale Countians, pounding Halls but losing at home to #10 Ripley. A shaky #2. 3.Jackson Northside(4) 3-0 last week including revenge win at #3 Dyersburg 4.Haywood Co.(5) Lost at top-ranked Bolivar but bounced back with a sound win over #8 Fayette-Ware & district title clincher at #10 Ripley. 5.Ripley(10) Peaking at tourney time despite loss to #5 Haywood. Impressive road wins at #8 Fayette-Ware & #2 Dyer County 6.Jackson Southside(9) Ditto on the peaking. #6 Humboldt, Lexington, Westview, & McNairy last weeks victims. 7.Dyersburg(3) Fall not so much the loss to #4 Northside but because the AA's are playing so well. 8.Adamsville(7) Solid win at Middleton. A definite Class A title contender 9.Union City(NR) Shane Sisco's best coaching job ever this year. Wins last week at Henry Co. & over Milan, plus he won a coin toss! 10.Trenton(NR) Uncle Clint Sisco moves in as well and he's hosting his district. Watch out! Dropped Out: #6 Humboldt-Losses to #9 Southside & #1 Bolivar but still very dangerous #8 Fayette-Ware-Home loss to #10 Ripley & pounding at #5 Haywood is no way to head into post-season. 14. West Tenn. Top 10 Week Two (Previous week rank in parentheses) 1.Gibson Co.(1) Remains #1 despite loss at #2 Chester Co on strength of convincing win at #3 Obion Co. 2.Chester Co.(2) May deserve #1. Call them 1a after beating #1 Gibson Co. & whipping McNairy & Lexington 3.Westview(4) Dismantled weak opponents Milan & Jackson Southside by a combined 101 points 4.Jackson Northside(5) Three easy 20+ wins over Cordova, Munford, & #7 Dyersburg 5.Obion Co.(3) Lost showdown with #1 Gibson Co. but bounced back against #8 South Fulton 6.Trenton(6) Needed overtime against #10 Dresden at home 7.Dresden(10) See above, plus 10 point win over AA McKenzie 8.Dyersburg(7) Lone game was home loss to #5 Northside 9.South Fulton(8) Won at Bradford but never in game at #3 Obion. Injuries hurting 10.Huntingdon(NR) Good record but haven't played strong schedule. Injury bug putting damper on Fillies post-season as well Dropped Out: #9 Brighton-Busy week. Home wins over Tipton County rivals but road losses at Crockett Co. & Ripley. [Edited by NWhoopaholic on 2-17-03 3:05P]
  15. The Jackson Sun reported Sunday that Haywood Co. Boys would be top seed and would play winner of Ripley-Brighton. That would make them #4 & #5. Today they reported the tournament would start Thursday at Brighton. That is all I know.
  16. Tuesday, Boys games on Monday.
  17. I'm not westtnfan but #5 Halls Beat #4 Mitchell and #3 Bradford beat #6 Middle College. Girls semis are Tuesday with #1 Trenton-Halls @ 6:30 & #2 Lake Co.-Bradford @ 8:00.
  18. No one has the job yet. Committee is still meeting.
  19. 14AA is overall stronger than 13AA this year and have played stronger schedules. As I posted once before, if Dyer County plays their best they will advance to sub-state unscathed. If they have an off night at least three teams in Dist. 14 are capable of jumping up and biting them.
  20. Word is that things are very much "up in the air." The job was reportedly offered to Ricky Rice who declined. I thoroughly echo the sentiments of PowerSet and Big Wes.
  21. John Pipkin welcome to CoachT and let me give you your first good mark for providing that blast from the past. I enjoyed following Richard Welch in his coaching days and allow me to say your teams at Chester Co. were a pleasure to watch as well.
  22. Once again someone's gotten their pants in a wad over this listing. As I said from the beginning, it wasn't to imply Shelby Co. is not in West Tennessee. My listing is intended simply to recognize some programs in our area that wouldn't get the recognition otherwise. When you narrow the perspective it gives more chance for recognition. Including Shelby county doubles the number of schools so smaller schools have less chance to gain notoriety. The Commerical Appeal has their Dandy Dozen to recognize their schools. I guess I could call it "Rural West Tenn. Top 10" but then Jackson might be offended I called them rural. Why get caught up in semantics? This is all about giving credit to high schhol programs and the kids that are a part of them and to generate discussion from those of us outside Memphis metro.
  23. I agree Beave, Hoffman is Coach of the year for what Obion has accomplished. McMillan has coached through the most adversity, but Russell has the hottest team right now and homecourt throughout!
  24. Westview is not overrated but will likely benefit from their schedule this last week. The Lady Chargers get a pair of cream puffs(no disrespect intended) in Milan & Southside while most of the rest of the top ten battle each other.
