  1. Wow, what an impact a public-private split would have on softball!

    Dyer County?

It was reported in the Union City Messenger on Friday that he resigned and that interviews had already started. One of Pratt's assistants at Crockett Co. was mentioned as one interested in DC but I've forgotten his name. Lynn Garner is pursuing the Lake County job I understand.
  3. MktgAdMan, is that you my old curly haired, fellow broadcasting Pike brother? I've changed ISP's at home but my school e-mail is still the same. How about your e-mail address? We need some contact. Have thought about you guys a lot. Let me know if I'm correct or I just wasted this whole post!
  4. CoachT thanks for clearing that up. I had forgotten who'd made that original post. Glad Countryboys is gone. Once again people like that are not representative of OC or any other 13AA school for that matter. 29 hours to the Battle at Pioneer Palace!
  5. Powerset, the post was in response to the post that was removed from the thread that had two profanities in it. I don't know if somebody posted on your computer while you were away from it or what but I would trust a teacher/coach would not have made that post. If that's the case you might want to be careful if your on the message boards at school. I know WesCharge was kidding about Samburg but that comment WAS unnecessary by him. As far as my take on 13AA right now I'd rate #1 Westview #2 Gibson Co. #3 Obion Co. but so close that variables come into play. When Fuqua returns how will she play? Who's officiating does make a difference as someone pointed out. Of course GC will have homecourt throughout District/Region so that's an advantage. I go back once again to an earlier post and say the team that finishes 2nd in the District Tournament is in the drivers seat, not the winner. How they finish regular season shouldn't matter though regular season champ avoids the other two until the finals. So maybe the road map to the big show is regular season champ, district tourney runner-up, region champ with sub-state(oh excuse me T$$AA Sectional) at home.
  6. A similar situation was the undoing of South Fulton during their run a few years ago. With Bradford & Gleason in the same region SF won the region but found themselves in the same bracket with Gleason during those awful "sectional" years and never made it to the 'boro. Bradford finishes 2nd in the region & cruises to the sectional final & a state berth. It ain't always how many you win but When in Tennessee post-season.
  7. I see a situation developing in the post-season that is unfortunate but springs up from time to time. Whenever you have three outstanding teams in an area that comes together with a weaker area teams sometime get "rewarded" for finishing 2nd rather than 1st. Twill be the case with the Region 7AA tourney at Gibson County. Two of three 13AA powerhouses(#1 from Dist. Tourn.) will be in the same side of the bracket while 13's #2 will be in with 14's winner (Brighton maybe). Taking nothing away from the Lady Cards they're having their best season ever but I don't think anyone in 14AA can compete with the Big Three. SO the #2 has an easier route to Region finals & a Sub-State berth while #1 & #3 play an elimination game. Sooooooo, there is no advantage to winning the district tournament!!!!!!
  8. I give you a Good Mark Govman for not accepting "you stink" as appropriate at ballgames. I agree that compared to some language this is mild but in a crowd full of young, impressionable kids and older folks who are very offended I think it's unnecessary.
  9. Let's give Lipscomb a little credit. They may not be a D-1 "major" but they have moved up to NCAA Division One.
  10. Union City named Assistant Jimmy Fishel as their new head coach this week.
  11. Looks like somebody needs to moderate this fellows language. Not representative of Obion County fans. Congratulations to Spencer & the Lady Rebels. It truly is a three horse race in 13AA. [Edited by NWhoopaholic on 1-20-03 10:14P]
  12. In the past I know the TSSAA has sanctioned "controlled" scrimmages in the postseason. I beleive Dyer County girls and Bradford did for example. Very specific guidelines must be followed I believe. So this could have been approved but it's the first I've heard of this scrimmage.
  13. Yes there has been a rumor started about Marty Sisco helping out the situation at DC but it's only wishful thinking on someones part. Not only would Marty probably not have any interest under the best of circumstances but it would put him in the same district with his own son Shane at Union City! So I think we can put that rumor to rest. I fully expect Assistant Lonnie Starks to be an interim head coach through the end of this season.
  14. Point well made on history making a rivalry and from that aspect OC-UC would be worlds ahead of DC-DB since they didn't play for fifty years. Maybe the appropriate thing to say is Dyer Co-Dyersburg has become the most "heated" rivalry in West Tennessee. As far as Memphis is concerned, I don't want to get anything started or have Opperman jump on me but most of us consider Memphis/Shelby Co. another geographical division when talking athletics. There are so many schools there when making lists or breaking anything down it's just easier to make the Metro area a region of their own. I know there are some intense rivalries down there as well.
  15. Obion Co.-Union City was at one time the best rivalry in West Tennessee but not anymore. When Jimmy Whitby & Marty Sisco walked the respective sidelines you had to get in line right after school to be assured a seat that night. The passion isn't quite there anymore from fans on either side though it will always be a good rivalry. By the way, they may not be state contenders this year but both will be pretty salty come tournament time. I would have to agree that the resumption of the Dyer Co-Dyersburg series has become the top rivalry in West Tennessee.
  16. Excellent post. You're very much in agreement with a post of mine on another thread on the subject. I sincerely hope that if punishment is doled out over this matter it hits those who've brought this on to Dyer County athletics, not the athletes themselves. I am giving you a Good Mark Overtime.
  17. If he is already 15 as you say, he will be ineligible to play for Lauderdale Middle School as an 8th grader since they are members of the TMSAA. He would then have two years of eligibility left at Ripley High School after that. Sounds like he has a lot to overcome.
