  1. I think Shannon is a good player, But a lot of his points come from players keying on Vespie. Now, does this make him the best, no, but it does make him a gereat asset to his team. Same goes with Blakley from Cosby, he is the only one you hear about but it was Manning early in the season who was 2nd in the area A thru AAA in scoring. He is still near the top even though he has fallen off a bit. Great player are only as great as the players around them. a good teammate is by far more valuable than one superstar. In a lot of respects, I think that the East TN area is loaded with soph and Junior talent which should lead to a very exciting 05-06 season. It would be very hard to single one out as the best and impossible for it to be agreed upon.
  2. I think the State needs to go back to a two ref system except during the State Tournament. This Is part of the problem. There simply aren't enough experienced refs left to call Varsity contests. Region 2 refs are the absolute worst. They are out of the Morristown / Greenville area. Too many of the young officials do not need to be calling at thier alma mater either. Especially if their former coach is still coaching. I have personally witnessed one of the worst cases of a blatantly called onesided game by one of the greenville refs and it wasn't even a home game for his school. Larry (Mtown) does a good job with the scheduling, but dear lord where did he get some of these clowns. I know it's not his fault but man...Not mentioning his name, But one of the more experienced refs seems to feel cheated if he doesn't get to T someone up. I have seen 5 downs in football this year a coouple of times, I have seen missed shots counted and given a bonus shot, Technicals called for a player trying to take a charge " called a flop, which is an actual rule" but the let punches go uncalled. Hand checks called and physically riding a player into the wall on a lay up attempt a no call. Balls bounce on the plate and skip over the catchers head called a strike. The TSSAA needs to step in and get control of the officiating in the State. and hold some of them accountable for their actions as they do the coaches. Maybe the State should hold an actually meeting annually to assess the abilities of it refs. You know these guys make pretty good money to not take anymore pride in their jobs.
  3. 1. Cosby @ M-town East 2. Ken Wright 3. Bradley Central and Maryville 4. Fresner Karns 5. 11 cosby 6. 24 cosby 7. ??? 8. Unaka or Cosby these folks Love their Basketball 9. Kingsport D-B 10. 11. Dewyese Pigeon Forge 46 vs Chuckey Doak 12. Gatlinburg or Seymour 13 Jefferson County's 14. Seymour @ Fulton
  4. 35 ? Vasquez is the better all around player for Cosby and is a huge difference in the team chemistry with her in the line up.
  5. I think some of you are giving Cosby some pretty good credit, either that or Unaka isn't that good either. My heart goes with the boys from Cosby, but like rebelron said they are a basketball school. UHS 35 CHS 6
  6. I heard today that Pigeon Forge's Coach resigned. Don't know for sure, But that is what I was told
  7. From the East, Unaka might have got the better draw, But I still like Rockwood as a sleeper. I look for CPA to underestimate Rockwood. Rockwood is a really solid team and could compete well againts CPA if the size and atmosphere of the Murphy Center doen't play on them. It's only 10x larger than their home gym. The only question I have is if their outside shooting can step up to spread the CPA defense and make them com out and play vs sitting inside with teir big guys waiting to block some shots. I know Rockwood has a couple of big guys too, But I think the guard play will have a bigger impact in this one. Sorry Rockwood but I still say CPA by 7. Hope you prove me wrong!!! Go tigers!!
  8. Congrats to Cosby on a great season!! First State apperance in close to 30 years. Before the Peabody game ever began not may were giving you a shot. I know the score was pretty lopsided, But the stats were not so bad. CHS outshot Peabody 39.+% to 34.+%. Out rebounded Peabody. But the Turnovers tell a big story 25-7. And Cosby did not make a single one of their trademark 3-balls. 0-7 Not making excuses for the CHS team, But there are some critics of the CHS team that are saying how terrible they were on the posts. Don't sweat it lady eagles, 9-10 never made it to the state and don't know what kind of pressure is on you. There are 362 State supported High Schools in TN (not counting privates)and only 24 a year make it to the big show. I would have liked to have seen the game again with the lady eagle thinking the stood a chance. Peabody probably would have still won but by single digits, not 25.
  9. Unaka is a tough place to play. During the regular season, there is always some home team favoritism. But during the tournament time, The officials are supposed to be neutral and have been so far. In the region tournament at Rockwood they had upper east TN officials. My opinion is the old gym at Hancock, Unaka, Cosby are all very tough houses in Class A to be a visitor.
  10. actually AC might help control the condensation, according to one of the football coaches
  11. I don't think even the Rockwood crowd can deny that
  12. through the week someone was sitting in front of the doors during the games. I guess for this purpose to keep people from opening
  13. I don't think that the administration should be embarrased either. But, I do feel like it is a matter of when, not if, until someone gets hurt on that court. I know tonight was an unusual circumstance as the conditions were right for the floor being that way and the coaches know about it. What do they do??? Who knows. I did think that the refs did an excellent job however when a couple of people started w towelling the Rockwood side of the floor and he made them do both ends before the game started back up. Didn't really factor into the game as both teams had to play on it. But the officials did say that it was worse on the end between the two doors becasue no air seemed to be circulating down there. Great game to watch though. good luck to both teams Monday
  14. why not play it at Halls or Thompson Boling or Anderson County. There are plenty of gyms close enogh to hold it. Going to Jefferson would not be fair to those kids. Neutral site is the only answer
  15. The staff that run the hospitality rooms should be thanked. they give up their time to show support of their programs all across the region by doing this. As for being asked for a pass, Scott wasn't offended. He did not feel they were being inhospitable. They were just doing quality control and didn't know him from the man in the moon. I would have asked too in that case. He jokingly commented to me about this saying that "it was the first time he could remember being asked for a pass to get ice". that was all. As stated he did say he was assisted very promptly when identified as the Athletic Trainer. I had to call him to tell him he made news on this. It was a laughing matter. Now can we please get back to the basketball discussion?
  16. Boys Games, Oneida has always been a disiplined team. I think this will be a very physical game and closer than the 24 point spread from earlier this season. This game may be too close to call. Harriman and Rockwood? Rockwood, I'm told, did look impressive over CAK, But CAK didn't exactly play their game either. In a intercounty game like this emotions play a big deciding factor. Again, Not going to call this one, That is why they play the game. I will predict this though, You had better get there early if you want to sit. This place will be packed today and Hot as the devil. Coach K might even have to turn on the vent fans, I hope. They need to rent that gym out to health clubs as a sauna. I am pretty sure coach K does this on purpose to an extent as his home court equalizer. As for the girls game I think team Depth will prove a factor. The last two games Cosby has had a 20 point lead mid-way through he fourth and had to hang on to win. Guard play will be a factor too. Jeffers is a great one, so is Coggins. Both teams seem to stuggle a bit when either one is out, But Hannah from Cosby provide a good 1-2 punch as she can handle the ball well and will have to have an impact on the game. I will wait to see how Jeffers and WC's 2 guard handle these two. Should be an exciting game!!! As for the officiating, These crews are doing a great job in two ways. 1. They are going to miss a few call, but no one is perfect. These crews are from upper East TN and have no vested interest in who wins the games and I doubt have called any games that the region teams have played. And Cosby fans aren't the only ones "whinning". There was so much whinning in that gym over the last few games from all teams that they may have to replace the floor from water damage. 2. This is very similar to how it is called at the State. They will let you bang and play physical in the 'Boro. And they will call touch fouls. This is a good warm up for how these kids are going to have to play in the next two weeks to have a shot at winning in the State.
  17. A lot of class A schools do not have Athletic Trainers. It really is sad too. Cosby has been very proactive over the past few years to pursue having an ATC at their games. I know a lot of people who would like to see the TSSAA mandate that there should be Medical staff on site at all tournament sites. I tend to agree. I know that a lot of schools have appreciated coming to Cosby knowing that there would be some one there incase there was an injury. As far as taking care of the other teams, that is just Cosby's trainers nature. The people at Cosby are Very hospitable and I don't feel they would have it anyother way. Dr Allen from Wartburg and Scott ( Cosby's ATC) helped each other last night with a couple of kids. That is the way it should be. As for Cosby"turning up the intensity tonight", I hope they do too. Oneida won't lay down for them. I look for a good game.
  18. Cosby does play @ 4:30 Mon girls and Tues Boys
  19. Doug McBee??? Come on this guy is a great Head Coach. He's probably just helping out until The Sky man gets there to play. Doug really knows the game as good as anyone. 20 + years in the game. Come on Kev B jump in here.
  20. Does Wright at Pigeon Forge still count as an assistant?
  21. Thank you Sbat for pointing that out. This is why I love watching high school basketball. The passion that some Fans bring to the game makes a mediocre team a better one.
  22. I think that to some level the talent in Upper East Tn isn't what it used to be. Pigeon Forge in AA has the size and the shooters, But seems to be missing something. In AAA I have to go with the Chattanooga area teams, Bradley Central, Cleveland. Memphis area schools are always competitive too. But year in year out Mid TN seems to be right there in just about all classifications. I think the level depends a lot on where the best teams are and I think that there is ample argument for each region in all classes. I guess we will have to wait til the big dance in March to get the best answer. Good Luck to all teams in their respected district, region and substate quests to make it to MTSU
