  1. How is it a lack of class for being excited. Kids do it in basketball and football, so why not baseball? Just because you apparently don't approve, doesn't make it wrong. There is nothing wrong with enthusiasm. As a matter of fact, these are EXACTLY the kinds of things that make youth sports more exciting to watch than professional sports. NFL, NBA, MLB are all boring because the players are boring. You say, "you don't see the Red Sox doing it." What a joke. Who gives a rat's butt what the Red Sox do?
  2. Siegel beat Antioch playing entirely zone last night. I recall them running a man defense in no more than 2 or 3 possessions. Antioch's coaching just simply befuddled me. They seemed to be content with walking the ball up the floor and then had no clue how to attack Siegel's 2-3 zone. They simply stood around. On the few occasions they pushed the ball (not allowing Siegel's zone to get set), they were able to get good shots. Maybe they are just not a running team. I have also been reading all about their 'suffocating 2-3 zone'. Well, at some point you have to realize you are behind and get out of your zone and go man. They never did. They allowed Siegel to pass the ball around and run out the clock. Siegel did an outstanding job at the end of the game. As one of Coach Harris' biggest critics during the Oden-Ramsey years, I now have to believe he has to be considered the top coach in 7AAA. How can anyone argue? He has 3 state tourney appearances in 4 years. If I am not mistaken, the only other coach to reach the state in that time is Randy King (with 1 appearance). Doing it with Oden, Ramsey, Roper and Jones is one thing, but doing it with no superstars (I agree that Cutter is overrated) is strictly another.
  3. Anything on Mt. Juliet/Wilson Central?
  4. Congratulations to Darian Brown and his staff and players. He is an outstanding young man who coaches with enthusiasm and whose girls play with passion. They are just plain fun to watch! Good luck in the Regions!
  5. D?©j? vu from '05-'06. "When they wanted to win". I never got a good explanation as to why they didn't want to win the games they lost.
  6. I totally agree with 'starfan'............nobody likes Siegel.
  7. I am disappointed in 7AAA. I don't see them doing as well down the road as I had originally hoped. Riverdale has stumbled of late as has Oakland. I hope they both, as well as Blackman and White Co., can pick it up. It could be a long offseason. At least we don't have to listed to all the Siegel fanatics. Maybe I can now read some rational comments
  8. They need discipline and direction. Does Coach Harris provide these things?
  9. I know this is off topic, but I just can't help myself. Did you ever stop to consider the fact that Cutter's problem (whining, ballhogging, dramatics, etc., etc., etc.) could stem from the worship heaped upon him by Siegel fanatics? I have. Cutter is a point guard. The bottom line for a point guard it to make the players around him better. Does Cutter do that? I think from the posts of Siegel fans themselves, we can all agree that, no, he does not. To be another, nameless player in the Siegel lineup would be an exercise in frustration. Not only are they obviously absent from the gameplan, but after the game, they get on CoachT and read all about how inept they are and offer no help whatsoever to the almighty Cutter. AND they are reading these posts uploaded from their own classmates, not rivals!
  10. Red is dead!? Heanven's sakes!! Oh my gosh! Dang. I didn't know. Then I guess we must cross him off the list of great coaches! I'm glad we have Jakeleg, Modicus, Runt, what ever you're calling yourself to set us straight. Of course we compare coaches at the level he coaches at. And, of course, winning isn't everything. If you have talent, you must be able to get the talent to play at their potential. That takes a great coach. If you don't have talent, you certainly must be a great coach to get the kids to believe in themselves and compete at the best of their ability.
  11. You just need to accept the fact that all good coaches are not in Mississippi or Kentucky. You comparing high coaches to college coaches is ridculous. I could say that Bob Knight is not a great coach, Red Auerbach is. But that too would be comparing apples to oranges. And, for the record, Coach Keil does an outstanding job. Do you not have a 'CoachM' down there to spend your time on?
  12. I have an officiating question. Why, after Twilly hit the 3 to send it to the first overtime, was Hamilton awarded the ball at midcourt? If I remember correctly, Hamilton called timeout and 2.9 seconds were put back on the clock. I don't remember Hamilton ever inbounding the ball immediately after Twilly's shot (if they had, the clock would have run out.) I thought Hamilton should have inbounded the ball under Shelbyville's basket. What did I miss?
  13. I started out solidly pulling for Shelbyville (as a representative of Middle TN) but, because of some of the most puzzling calls I have ever seen, found myself feeling sorry for Hamilton. I was actually relieved when Stewarts final shot at the buzzer failed to connect. The foul on Stewart at the end of the 1st overtime was probably a foul but had not been called a foul all night. Both teams just absolutely hammered each other and then this call was made. I don't blame the Hamiilton coach for pouting but I found myself thinking he better straighten up and coach. The out of bounds call late in the 2nd overtime bordered on cheating. I don't see over-and-back as a way to defend the call and the guys foot (or ball) never came within 6 inches of the sideline. I understand why a referee will miss a call now and then. They see something and they call it. However, in this case, there was nothing to see. How do you call something you don't see? Got to wonder about that one. Anyway, I thought it was one of the most entertaining games I have witnessed. Shelbyville surely won over the Siegel posters and Hamilton proved they are for real. Other than Hamilton players jacking up shots with a 6 point lead in the last minute of regulation, I thought it was a well coached and well played game.
  14. You're saying stuff that has been said on here for 3 years. Maybe some will listen but most will not. It is now, however, a moot point, as the season is over. One point I disagree with you on is the ability of Jimmy Oden. I think he is a rare talent and capable of single handedly carrying his team to victory, which I don't think Ramsey, as great as he is, can do. I agree that his shot is ugly and inconsistent but irregardless, he can score. And that is the bottom line. I don't think he is a team player and I agree that Siegel was unstoppable in the district tournament, when Oden was suspended. I also felt they looked better against Whites Creek with Oden on the bench. It seems that the team just plays harder when he is out of the game. But again, this is all a moot point. It remains to be seen if Oden can succeed at the college level. I wish him, and all the seniors from around the district, well.
  15. It seems that he gives them just enough rope to hang themselves; i.e. the tech on Jones last night. He picks up 2 fouls and a technical (his 3rd foul) in the first 1:20 of the game. This just absolutely killed Siegel. I don't blame this on Jones. I have to blame it on Harris for allowing it to continue throughout the year. I know alot of the 'Nation' will try to defend it and say the refs pick on Jones and Co., but I don't buy that even a little bit. This was something like the 40th game of the year for Siegel and Jones makes in 80 seconds before he gets tee'd up. Just absolutely disgusting. If I were a Siegel fan, I would have to slit my....ah....my, um...., well, I would have to slit something.
  16. Since I DIDN'T see the incident, I thought I might as well wade in and give my version of what happened. It seems like everyone that DIDN'T see it has a version. They can tell us: 1) exactly what happened, and 2) exactly what Oden's intent was It is so typical for Siegel fans to defend actions as blatant as this appears to be. If the official, who I know is an excellent official, college and high school, immediately ejects Oden from the game, he obviously had a reason. I will also go with the eyewitnesses who say they saw it. If you want to use Jimmy's reputation as a defense...ah...I don't think that would help. You know, I didn't see it, but based on my experience of watching Oden play numerous times, I find it very easy to believe. It is not only very believable but also something I would expect out of him.
  17. It should be a good tournament. I like Oakland, Siegel, Lebanon, Cookeville in round 1. I think, however, that White Co. could give Siegel a scare. I have believed since the start of the season that they could be the sleeper in the district. They have greatly underachieved but still, in my mind, have the ability to string 4 quarters together and pull an upset. I'm not saying it will happen, and it probably will not, but they are capable. I wouldn't want them in the first round. What is the deal with Riverdale getting hammered by Gallatin? I thought they were coming on but now, I have to wonder. No real big deal picking Oakland and Siegel in the finals. BUT, I don't believe it is a done deal like several previous posters have implied. With the annual exception of Warren Co., anyone could get hot and win it all.
  18. I like his game. I always have. I just don't like the little fits he throws everytime he gets called for a foul. That act gets old. His friends see it as competitiveness. His opponents see it as attitude.
  19. Siegel gets so much attention because it has so many posters. Again, percetion. His whining and gestures come across as attitude. I've seem technicals for less that I have seen out of Cutter.
  20. ............which can only be a good thing.
  21. I hate to reopen a can of worms but I am just trying catch up. The "Attitude'" factor that everyone is talking about, at least WAS talking about, is perception. Siegel people keep rationalizing their players actions with such words as 'intensity' and 'focus'. As I said earlier, try to see your players as others see them. Look at Majors at Warren Co. Some might say he has an attitude. Warren Co. people would undoubtably defend him. Lebanon has Walton, Blackman has Barnes, Cookeville and Hill, White Co. and Taylor. The point is every team has a player or two that may come across to others as having attitude. The home folks would all defend them as 'great kids', but with perception being everything, it means they have attitude. Unforutnately for Siegel, they have several players that others would classify as 'having attitude'. Rathionalize, defend, make excuses, do whatever you want, but the bottom line is Siegel has an attitude problem, at least to everyone except Siegel fans. One additon to the Lucas Jones saga. I was told by an Oakland coach that Jones took off his jersey in a summer camp game, threw it in Randy King's face and walked out. There is nothing short of abuse that justifies a player, or person for that matter, to do that to his coach. I would take Roper on my team. I would also consider Ramsey. But I would rather lose that put up with Oden and Jones. AND, Cutter seems to be following in Oden's misguided footsteps. An interesting footnote. I say Oakland's players are thugs and I get blasted. I recant, saying that maybe the word 'Thugs' is a little strong. THEN everyone on here, including Oakland people start calling the Oakland players thugs. Interesting, huh?
  22. That may the first time I have considered one of your posts an understatement.
  23. You can really come up with some zingers! As a matter of fact, I will from this point forward refer to you as, "Zinger" That was referring to Oakland and my infamous 'Thug' comment, which I really wish I had kept to myself. Sigh.
