  1. Not that it would likely change the outcome but the DI 152 champ was not Justin Spain. Brandon Wright won that match and would be competing against Waddel...
  2. Why don't you come to the Freshman/Sophomore state at McGavock this Saturday. I believe you will find many of the answers you seek there...
  3. BuckLateral, Absolutely one of the best posts I have read in the last several years here. Thank you very much and let us know when the match is decided .
  4. Just to add a little but I think Christiansburg has the #1 215 in the nation. Believe his name is Cody Garner or something along that line. I hear he is moving to heavy next year though. I hate to say it but I am not sure either of our 215 state champs could hang with him but I would love to see it anyway. RMC, Got to see your 215lber on TV the other night. That was indeed a good match. Impressive kids to say the least.
  5. Slight correction on who is allowed choice in double overtime... It is actually the wrestler who scored first during the match that gets choice. Getting into a little strategy that may be over the level of this topic but this can become very important in choosing whether to defer in the second round or to go ahead and take the position you are most likely to score from at that point. If you have an inkling that the match may have the possibility of double OT (as in it has happened in the past or the two wrestlers seem that evenly matched) you may want to go ahead and take choice in the second rather than waiting for the third period.
  6. I don't know why some of you are having problems but I can see the brackets complete.
  7. Congratulations to everyone who made it through another season and to all of those who qualified for state. Will be seeing and pulling for all of you in Chatt. I hope you all travel safely today and rest well tonight. BTW, nice article in the CA today.
  8. Directly from the TSSAA Handbook. C. Wrestlers who meet the qualification shall be placed in each weight division in the state tournament. In order to be placed, a wrestler must be a regional champion and must have been a state place finisher during his high school career. The criteria for placing shall be as follows: 1. Separate all state champions (includes state champions from other states). 2. The following criteria shall be used to separate state champions: (a) state champion at same weight, ( b ) state champion at higher weight, ( c ) state champion at lower weight. (If there are two state champions at the same weight the state champion from Tennessee will receive the higher seed.) 3. Follow the same procedure as #2 above for 2nd place from previous year, 3rd place from previous year, 4. Items #2 and #3 shall be applied in order to wrestlers who placed in the state tournament two years prior. 5. Blind draw.
  9. The split had very little to do with wrestling. The split was based on the sports that are the "major" sports in the eye of the TSSAA... mainly football. The TSSAA would never split the entire organization over a sport as small as wrestling. This is just the same as why schools like Greeneville have to wrestle up to the AAA division when they actually qualify for A/AA, because the school wants to play larger divisions in basketball, etc. the wrestling team has to deal with ramifications of that decision.
  10. Williams was forced to sit out last year due to his transfer but was a medalist his freshman year in DI. Just to answer your question.
  11. Unless I am mistaken Knox Catholic did not win a 2006 Small School State Championship trophy. That honor belonged to Notre Dame.
  12. Lettner did not defeat a defending state champ... certainly not a knock on Ian but he was 3rd in DII last year. The DII champion was Courtney Coffee and the DI champion was Nick Reveiz.
  13. Hopefully I will be seeing all of you boys bright and early tomorrow morning then. How will we handle the 5 match rule if it becomes an issue? Do we finish on Sunday?
  14. Sundancer, Don't forget best freshmen, while certainly worthy of discussion and not necessarily beating a dead horse, it is defintiely a thread that comes up every year and often gets quite a lot of attention and has a long life.
  15. Singh and Cash were the 2 and 3 seeds, repsectively, and are in the same side of the bracket.
  16. That was such an incredible display, I honestly sad for the kid and his family. I was on the floor prepping one of my wrestlers at the time and heard the commotion and looked over in just enough time to see the conclusion of things. Needless to say my wrestler learned an important lesson then.
  17. Ronnie, Not that I find too much joy in correcting you , but I think you may upset some McCallie fans if they read this line. Baylor did not win the dual crown this year.
  18. Just wanted to spread the word as to the success of a couple of TN boys at the Missouri Valley Open this past weekend. #3 Nick Marable,5-1, finishes 3rd First Round - majors Eric Ford (University of Oklahoma) 14-3 Second Round - pins Adnon Gutic (Lindenwood University) in 0:45 Quarterfinals - dec. #6 Darion Terry (Missouri Valley) 5-3 Semi-finals - loses to #2 James Willamson (Missouri) 4-3 Conso Semi-Finals - dec. #5 Danny Grater (Fort Hayes State) 3-1 Conso Finals - dec. #1 Will Rowe (University of Oklahoma) 7-6 Luke Borneman, 3-2 First Round - def. 19. Indeed they wrestled a good tournament. I even had the pleasure of being surrounded by some ND faithful in the stands. I got to meet the sister of a certain 140lber from ND as well as see a few of our local board characters... even though they didn't get a chance to see me . Anyway congrats to a good team that is certainly missed in the DII ranks.
  20. I figured somethign along these lines was the case. I know that Dunning is nowhere near a true 141 lber, heck I even questioned if he was big enough for 133. He always has had plenty of respect for me but making his way into any of the military academies is so tough that making that choice and making that sacrifice speaks volumes of his character. Wrestling up to 141 I wouldn't see him winning to many matches against the top level at that weight but it will definitely give him much needed varisty mat time in order to be better prepared for next year.
  21. Sitting in the stands I really wasn't sure what to expect when I realized Mang would wrestle Fuller. Both are excellent wrestlers and I wasn't sure who could take that one. Needless to say Mang looked excellent. I find it very hard to believe that he is only a sophomore... he definitely stepped up well in a pressure situation.
  22. Wow, Who on earth would have thought that we would have seen Spencer Manley getting a decision over Whitt Dunning during college. I guess it just shows how much these two have changed weight classes since their high school senior years... Manley was at 152 and Dunning at 119, now they meet at 141.
  23. Sure thing Walt (guessing that is you), just go ahead and give me every wrestlers record against every other wrestler and I will handle things for you
  24. OK Sommers if you want to get technical, why should Will Young be wrestling 140 now?
