  1. Why do you believe it to be a lack of respect from the rest of the state? Is everyone that posts on Coacht supposed to congratulate CBHS on the ranking? The reason that the other threads have more responses is due to the fact that there is something to talk about and debate about. If someone had gotten on the board and said that CBHS doesnt deserved to be ranked in the top 50 this would be a more "popular" thread. Dont look into things to deeply when everything is right there on the surface. Congratulations to CBHS. Lewis is doing great work building a winning tradition in Memphis. With that being said I think its within reach to have a Tennessee team work its way into the top 20 in the coming years.
  2. Did I mention anything anout dropping the opponent and not controlling him or being unconcerned for the other wrestlers safety? No. At the peak of the lift you let him fall while holding onto him. Most slam calls you see are the result of wrestlers either returning the opponent to the mat with more force than would result from letting the opponent just fall or returning the wrestler toward their head neck. Which is why I say return the wrestler to the hip. When you have a high single in the air and you kick out the other wrestlers leg you dont control how they fall...gravity does and the opponent does. Same concept.
  3. The lift was correctly called illegal because the referee must have felt there was unnecessary force. One way to correct this is to let wrestler b fall to the mat at 9.8 m/s2. At the peak of the lift while holding onto the wrestler, just let the other wrestler fall to the mat under his own faculties. If he has his arms free he will most certainly put his hands out to protect his face and the end result will not be called a slam. The other option is to land the other wrestler on his hip instead of taking him forward toward his head
  4. You people have got to be kidding me. There were obviosuly enough of you there for a conversation about how poor the tournament was run and how bad the facility was to germinate here. Could one of you give us an update on the results as there were quite a few top teams wrestling in the tournament? I swear it seems like a bunch of women have taken over this board because all the conversations are complaints. "He pushed my kid in the face." "The concession stand didnt offer any good food." God help me if they ran this packed gym out so early in the evening you would think someone would be able to relay some results to this thread by now.
  5. Sommers you are a moron. Do the board a favor troll and crawl back under your bridge.
  6. Maj. Bradley would be near the top but I do believe that Quinton Jackson would have to top this list if it were made. Pride Grand Prix runner up and UFC light heavyweight champ. No offense intended Animal, but i think you'd have your hands full with him.
  7. reftn, I know you are standing up for your brothers in stripes but I too fail to see the justification for this call. Having watched it online, and read your post citing the rule book, I referenced the rule book myself. It is simple enought to state that the ryan wrestler was attacking and not completing his shots and that by definition would be considered stalling. However, it has always been my understanding that the attacking wrestler is to be given the benefit of the doubt...regardless of score or match situation. My question to you reftn is this...Would ryan wrestler have been better suited, in the given situation, to have initiated collar tie and squared off his stance to finish the remainder of the 15 seconds of the match to win it? And the reason that I ask this is that had he done that he would have fulfilled another listed criteria for a stall call in the NFHS rule book. So to finish the match there really was no way for the ryan wrestler to close out the match without filling some sort of stalling method. Stalling is a subjective call (in most situations) and no matter how many rules or changes/interpretations that the NFHS comes out with each year that will never change. I dont know the age of the stall call, but it was intended to make wrestlers initiate action. If that was the intent of the rule, then who in this match was in fact guilty of the stall? I like you personally and as a ref sir and I know you werent involved in this match, but standing up for a subjective call is best left up to the man who made the call. For those of you who question the ryan coach accepting the call by not challenging it, know this the ryan coach would've gotten no where questioning a stall call in that situation. Primarily due to the fact that most refs will not listen to a coach's argument on a subjective call. Also, no ref would ever go back after making that call. The ryan coach did right. But if you think he was okay with the call watch the video and look at the earful that he gives to danny gilbert.
  8. Actually, it is, according to the NFHS book--byes are random unless all agree to do otherwise. (Remember, in team scoring, a bye can be a disadvantage, because the wrestler with a bye can only score a regular decision's worth of points.) Glad someone else got on here to post this. I read this thread over the weekend but didn't have time to post. If you are in a tight team race you want all of the first round matches your team can get because those are opportunities you have to score bonus points. Especially if you have a top seeded wrestler (say second as the example stated) you want them to have matches as their likelihood for bonus is very high early in a tournament. I have been to many a tournament where we knew a tight team race was imminent (say the DII individuals this upcoming weekend) where we are hoping for as few byes as possible. The only way to keep team scoring fair in an individual tournament is to randomly assign the byes... if you are going to complain about that then you need to look at it from all sides of the argument. I will agree that byes can hurt a team in a team race. But, isnt the goal at regionals to advance as many kids to the state tournament? I would be willing to bet that most coaches would rather advance an extra couple of guys than win a region title. Take your byes at the region tournament and be happy with it.
  9. For those of you that want to gripe about officiating, calls, rules, etc. for the net two weeks, please post here and quit cloggin the rest of the boards with your garbage.
  10. Actually I never ever in my long wrestling career ever got my arm trapped on my feet. And yes Ill admit I was trolling...And I caught one. Im actually a friend of the MAJ and was expecting to hear that from him. Im just tired of the posts on here bitching about the officiating. While Ive been all around the country and seen wrestling/officiating at its finest, I really dont see that much to complain about in TN. Side note. When you exucute a stand up and get to your feet, its usually best to have both arms clear to break your fall...or even better get away. Its very rare that I see wrestlers on bottom get free with an arm trapped.
  11. Dont get your arm trapped on your feet and it wont happen. Or have they stopped teaching hand fightin in north middle Tennessee?
  12. 50 matches in a HS season is obscene.
  13. I will admit that she is pretty friggin hot. But is anybody else tired of this chick poppin up on their screen? Come on coacht. There are less annoying ways of making money on the internet.
  14. A very special woman. Go to page 10 and 11 of the forum.
  15. You misunderstand what a good coach is. Did the guy have a stellar collegiate career? Yes. However, Connell, Simpson, Logsdon, Henry, and Jordan all have coached the state champions to put themselves in a league apart from anyone including Pat Smith if he were to come coach in TN.
  16. The big problem I see with this is that MMA has been trying to legitimize itself as a "sport". Many state boxing commissions have taken over the controls and rules to help. NHB fighting was once considered a circus act type of sport and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw this topic. MMA is not going anywhere and will help wrestling a lot, as long as the country as a whole sees it as a legitimate sport. As a sport, we need to embrace MMA, but this was just disturbing to watch.
  17. I wholeheartedly agree. Absolutely foolish.
  18. looks like the move bumping marchetti to 60 worked out after all. Brewer and Agnew both picked up 4th place points. Shame to see Baylor lose this one with one of their top wrestlers missing, but you gotta hand it to Ryan so far. They have wrestled above what they should have.
  19. I believe you may be misinformed. Pretty sure Phillip is on his way to Afghanistan.
  20. mhhjnh- in the words of Ali G...Respect "We don't condemn plagiarism in English class because it is English class we condemn it because it is wrong." mhhjnh Do you mind if I plagiarize this? Its very well put.
  21. This post is on a plaque...or something. Just search the first few lines of it on any search engine and Im sure it will turn thousands of results. However, WrestlingGod has come on her and obviously plagiarized someone elses piece of work. Pathetic sir. Had you put anything like "I found this on the web the other day" or something to that extent it would be alright. Very uncool.
  22. Gotta appreciate that "JV" division of the state that has produced the only ranked NCAA wrestlers that I am aware of at this moment. Dont see any of the "Varsity" division wrestlers performing too well on the National scene right now. 3 JVers ranked in DI 1 in DII. If only those poor JV kids had been given the chance to wrestle at the varsity level.
