  1. I was told a little while ago that coach Bowlin from obion county is going to Dyersberg. Does anyone know?
  2. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh........ lets not give anyone any ideas.
  3. I was just wondering if Obion County Central is going to change their nickname when they get in their new school. I remember last year there was some rumor that they might. Does anyone know anything about it?
  4. Well it is not like people didn't know back right after Coach Jones was hired that he wasn't going to last. He tried to get out a couple of weeks after he was hired. He ruffled feathers from the start. As for Coach Widby coming back to OC, I don't see it happening but stranger thing have happened. If the people that are causing all of this mess would just step back and try to see how it looks. What if it were happening at another school, how would they see the situation then. And it could happen anywhere. It seems that there are two coaches for this job: 1. one that is at the end of their career, and 2. one that wants to be at the end of their career. Let me ask a question, are we all going to be on here next year this time wondering who is going to be the new coach at OC and whose fault it was that they left? Or, are we going to look at a program that has turned around and put all this crazy stuff behind them and a coach that is able to run the program that they were hired to do? Time will tell I suppose.
  5. I know nothing about the team nor the coach, just what the writer has written. It sounds like a character problem and the players that would cuss and fight the coach has none. The coach made the mistake of not kicking the players that did this off of the team. I hope that the parents of these young men correct them and set them straight on how they should treat teachers and coaches even if you don't agree with them, there are other ways of handling differences. I hope everything gets worked out.
  6. Congrats' to OC girls for a big win. It would be nice to see the lady rebels go out of the old school with a Gold Ball. All the way Lady Rebels!
  7. While it seems that OC can play with Westview for ahalf or three quarters they don't seem to have the steam for four quarters. Until they do I'll have to go with the 'view. Should be a good game.
  8. I first want to say that my comments are from a casual observer that means nothing but the best for OC in all of it's programs. I was born and raised in Obion county, I graduated from OC and raised 3 children OC and they finished school at Obion Central. I try to keep up with their programs the best I can, through the media and good friends I have there. My heart is there with them and it is hurts to see what has happened to the programs there no matter the cause. To most objective observers, looking at all of the coaching changes we may conclude that the atmosphere for coaches to coach and run their programs have been lacking. I do hope this is not the case. As for coach Jones' guilt or innocence I have no oppinion. I agree if he is guilty he should never coach again, if innocent I just feal that it will be diffilcult for him to continue much longer. I hope things will all be worked out.
  9. It was indeed agood win for OC, and yes OC may be back in the "boro"" some day but I would be surprised if coach Jones is with them, even if he is found to be innocent of the charges. Would anyone want to coach in that kind of atmosphere.
  10. The new football coach at UTM is from in state but I wonder if that will mean much to area football players. Maybe someone out there has an opinion , or knows of area atheletes that they are talking to. I would hope that he would recruit better from this area than past coaches.
  11. Mmmmmmmmm VERY interesting!
  12. I'm sure that there is a Melvin Smith out there some where, probably lives next door to the Jones'. I checked the, mshsaa.org, web site and could not find a 'Melvin Smith'. Maybe I just missed it.So if anyone wants to help me find it, would be nice info.
  13. You are clearly right on UT's basketball program. I look at 2 schools as example, Kentucky and Tennessee. One's football program seemingly is going nowhere and the other's basketball program is doing the same. I'll let readers decide which is which. Is it hopeless for either school? I think not. Both scools will have to change their mindset though. These second class programs are at first class universities and there is no excuse these schools can't field competive programs in both sports. I was sorry that Buzz was fired but not surprised. I hope Mr. Hamilton and the board doesn't go out and pick a one year wonder. Maybe this is the year that Coach Summitt takes the plunge into the mens game and Gleason native Ashley McElhiney takes over the womens program. Just an idea.
  14. I see that this post has generated a lot interest, and a lot of opinions. some seems to think that there is not much talent at OC. Some think that the coaching is lacking. I believe maybe both are right. Talent comes in many forms. You can have atheletic talent, which only can take you so far, and you can have little talent and a great coach and it will only take you so far. what little I saw of OC this season they lacked both, and please I'm not meaning to put anyone down. So I guess the best solution would be to find a good teacher/coach, someone who can take lesser talent and bring out the best in the young men who to play the game. I remember a team such as that, as many of you close to the program. I have no preference in any coaches mentioned on this post, just hope that players, coach, administration, parents and fans can get on the same page. Come on everyone let's get Rebel Power back.
  15. I for one am going to support the young men on our baseball team. Westview and Obion Central had great seasons should be very proud of what they accomplished. And I cheer for all of the west state teams that are still in it. I am above all a fan of all of our young people. Good luck to all teams that are left.
  16. I was just wondering where coach Glisson went to. I remember now that he went to N.S. as baseball coach. I knew coach Glisson when he coached at Hillcreast over at Troy. I was disappointed when He turned down the O.C. job before. I really think he would be a good fit for that program. I wish him well where ever he goes.

    Westview

On another post someone picked them 4th in the district. I hope everyone else believes that. No predictions. Just play ball. GO CHARGERS!!!
  18. Some of the names mentioned I am not familiar with. I would not like to see Obion cty go back to the slow down games as mentioned in some post here.Iwould hope maybe if someone in one of the feeder schools is qualified and able to put some excitement back in the program it would be great. But, who ever gets the job the administration has to back them. If they have any doubt they should not hire them. Whoever is hired will need the support from everyone.
  19. Try not getting so up tight. This is a message board were people can express their opinions . And that's all they are, opinions, and everyone has a right to one, if we agree or not. So go back to your corners and come and have a good fight.
  20. I was talking about their over all recruiting history. If you happen to see it differentally, that's cool, everyone has an oppinion. I just stated mine.
  21. well for one game it does and I'm not a d'burg fan but I'll give them their due.
  22. Would someone please tell me if Jenna Roney is back yet, if not will she be ready for the tournaments? thanks
  23. It would be worth going over there to watch those girls play together but UTM has a bad rep on local recruiting. would love to see them over there.
  24. Does anyone know if UTM is recruiting any of these girls.
  25. Well we can't go back to the past but we can learn from it. I remember what it was like before the Whitby era, it was were the program is now. Well a person came in and knew what he wanted to do and he did it. It took a lot of hard work, it was preached into the young men and they bought into it because they wanted to win and they believed in the program . They worked hard and the parents and administration bought into it also. Looking back on the last few years in the sports program, and all the coaching changes, let me ask this question . Where does the problem lay, the players, the coach, the parents or the administration? I'm no longer close enough to the program to know, but someone knows and those questions will have to be answered.
