  1. South Pittsburg lead Gordonsville 39-6 at the half.
  2. Lebanon High's A.J. Stewart averaged 40.3 yards per kickoff return this season. He also averaged 20.7 per punt return. He scored three TD's in the return game this season and I believer has amassed over 1000 yards in his three-year career (punt and KO returns combined).
  3. 2:55 to go in the first quarter, South Pittsburg leads Gordonsville 19-6. Pirate Ron Cook just scored on a 52-yard run. He also has a 72 yarder tonight.
  4. The complex at Hardin County in Savannah is one of the best. The press box is outstanding, built to college standards. Paved track with plenty of seating on both sides. I like the main entrance from the parkinf lot with the big garage-style doors, new concession stands and rest rooms.
  5. I know of the QB (Cook) but what's the name on the freshman back from S. Pittsburg? Any stats on these guys? I tried the Chattanooga paper, but it's now subscription access ($$$).
  6. I heard Hardin County has an outstanding kicker, perhaps a kid who tranferred in. What's his story?
  7. Here's an idea. In this age where most every high school coaching staff has multiple VCRs rolling after the game making copies -- how about the home team presenting the referee with a copy of that night's game film. Then leave it to the referee to get his crew together some time during the following week to view the film over pizza. This would give these guys an opportunity to see themselves in action, discuss strengths and weaknesses -- without a coach or association head looking over their shoulders. I have talked to several guys I consider top-notch officials and they would welcome an opportunity to see themselves work. Would most officials be in favor of this opportunity? Game film is one of the great teaching tools for players and coaches, why not for the officiating crews? I would hope most officials would want to get better, this might be an avenue for that improvement.
  8. Siegel at Lebanon; Watertown @ Monterey and Mt. Juliet @ Clarksville NE all moved to Thursdy night.
  9. Any results yet on the boys and girls meet Thursday afternoon at Rippavilla Plantation?
  10. What does everyone think about Dusty Ray (QB, DB @ Gordonsville) and his chances to be a Mt. Football finalist? I've seen him twice, once live and once on film, and he's pretty special. He rushed for 208 against Friendship and threw for 105 -- accounting for all three touchdown. He had an incredible game the week before against Monterey accounting for all five scores and picking off a couple of passes. I have no idea about his seasonal stats, but based on these two performances he's having a Mr. Football-type season. Can he make the short list?
  11. MJCA played 2 years prior to this as a member of the TSSAA -- but didn't play a regional schedule -- against out-of-state and non-aligned teams. They played district and regional schedules in all other sports prior to this season. The Saints have a couple of good skill players, but are woefully thin. They played Watertown tough for about a quarter, then the dam broke. Be advised, kickoff is at 7 p.m. the field is located behind Mt. Juliet First Baptist Church.
  12. Is there a site listing the 2003 X-country all mid-state teams. I believe this group is recognized each year with a banquet at Brentwood Academy.

    Lebanon and Oakland

Why was Carlos Crawford NOT on the field for Oakland's last offensive play -- the fourth down and six? The guy had over 200 yards rushing and Lebanon really didn't have an answer for him.

    Lebanon and Oakland

Note on the KO return by A.J. Stewart. Oakland kicked a grounder in hopes of keeping the ball away from Stewart. Justin Johnson fielded the kick on his own 22, turned and tossed the ball to Stewart -- who then went 85 yards through the Patriots for the game-winning TD. Also, LHS stopped Oakland's QB on a fourth and six in the last minute to seal the win. Why wasn't tailback Carlos Crawford on the field for Oakland's final play? Lebanon hadn't stopped him all night.
  15. NW 38, Mt. Juliet 36. Trailing 36-30 with about seven minutes to play, NW tied the game at 36-all with less than 3 minutes to go. They won it with a two-point conversion. MJ got the ball out to near midfield on the KO return, but had a holding call and eventully stalled out on a fourth and five. MJ drops to 4-4, 3-2 in the region. NW improves to 6-2, 3-2. Chris Humes had 171 yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns in the loss.

    MJ vs. Maplewood

Here's the final: Mt. Juliet 35, Maplewood 14. Chris Humes ran for 229 and 3 TD's on 38 carries. MJ defenders intercepted four Maplewood passes, including a 35-yard return for a TD by Adam Zoccola. MJHS is now 4-3, 3-1. Maplewood 0-7. MJ will play against on Thursday, Oct. 16 at home against Clarksville NW.
  17. Any word on tonight's game Mt. Juliet - Maplewood game?
  18. Congratulations to Coach Alexander and to the 18 seniors who have stuck it out through the 0-24 start. Getting the win was outstanding, but defeating a previously undefeated Coffee County team really makes a statement. These guys are going to get better!
  19. I thought Lebanon had a great game plan and stuck with it -- even though they had terrible field position in the first quarter and trailed 7-0 early. Lebanon ran for 220 yards with no one person gaining more than 54. Grooms was effective passing (3-for-6, 84-yards and a TD) and the defensive effort was solid. Lebanon iced the game by reeling off 21 consecutive plays from the 3 minute mark of the third period all the way down to four minutes to go in the game. Chris Humes is a tough little guy and once again went over 100 yards for the Bears. LHS has now won three straight over Mt. Juliet. Congratulations.
  20. I saw a good part of the scrimmage. Quincy Russell (#2) of Franklin Co. is an outstanding talent. He played QB, tailback, TE and in the secondary. He broke an option play for a TD, ran the ball on the end-around and returned an interception for a TD. Tough, physical athlete.
  21. Mt. Juliet High football will be carried live this season on WCOR AM-900 out of Lebanon. The games were tape-delayed last year and played Saturday mornings after the Coaches Breakfast ended at 10 a.m. Pat Lawson is the play-by-play man.
  22. The new football coach has been named at Wilson Central. Check the web site www.wilsonworld.com for the details.
  23. Sampson started junior Crystal McNeese who got behind 3-0. She was replaced by Trish White who got the win.
  24. Antwan -- I think you're right at 7-6. FCS advances to play USJ, in fact the game should be going right now. FCS was down 6-0 and came back. The Cross girl (SS) had a three-run inside the park HR in the sixth,
  25. The official book had Boyd with four errors. The big junior righty Medlin was DOMINATING. Boyd got three runs in the top of thr 7th off the Sledge kid. Jeremy Davis hit a three-run homer for the Bucs. Sledge threw hard but got a little shook up. Friendship advances with a record of 35-6.
