  1. #7 is Katie Wattenbarger, I'm pretty sure. Glad to hear she got a good one in there...I have to agree, this district is a lot more balanced than it's been in years. Almost any game could go either way, depending on who had a better night and showed up to play. Hope the district tourney holds a few surprises.
  2. Has anyone got a schedule yet for the 7AAA district tourney? Obviously, we've got last place wrapped up - would be nice to know when the games are scheduled. (Not only ours, but also others to be able to watch.) Thanks!
  3. Thanks, everyone. Jaelyn was released to go home tonight, they say she'll be out at least 4 weeks as they watch the lung and give her time to heal. I'm afraid she may be done for the season. Please continue to keep this young lady in your prayers!
  4. Just wanted to take a moment and ask for your prayers- LaVergne High School sophomore goalkeeper, Jaelyn Todd, was injured during last night's game. While playing a fantastic game against Independence High School, Jaelyn went after a ball and collided with another player with about 6 minutes left in the game. Good news - Jaelyn and LHS managed to save the goal. Bad news, this young lady was admitted to the hospital last night with 2 broken ribs and a punctured lung. She appears to be doing well, other than being bored and sore. Freshman keeper Kristen Hughes came in cold off the bench, and did a good job as well. Unfortunately, Independence managed to score a goal with approximately 1 minute left on the board. Final score: Independence 1 - LaVergne 0.
  5. Geesh, why don't they just go ahead and wipe out ALL of our coaches from all sports? Seems like that's what's going on, one at a time... problem is the ones that have most recently left/been discharged (whatever is the case) are the coaches of the most successful programs and that actually work with their student athletes. Where is Coach Couey going to? I hate to see him go, as he worked with his athletes on the court and in the classroom. I wish him well!
  6. Cookeville-thank you on behalf of our team and fans (I'm just a fan, don't play/have a player on the team). It was a very tough game, and you guys deserve everyone's respect. We were sweating it in the stands, as our guys looked worn out in the 2nd half (no wonder after last night's OT game too, LOL). I enjoyed watching the guys give it their all, and enjoyed the spirit on both sides of the stands. Thanks to your fans for their sportsmanship!
  7. Congrats Wolverines on another dramatic win! Gotta say 7 AAA is gonna be well-represented at Spring Fling, since I hear Riverdale also won.
  8. LaVergne 3 - Cookeville 2 (OT)
  9. The $64,000 question really is, what IS going on at LHS? Everyone in the county seems to know more about it than the ones that actually go to school there or have kids that go to school there. Seems like a LOT of teachers will not be returning, apparently several of the coaches will not be returning, classes that have been chosen will not be offered... it'd be nice if someone decided to fill the people involved in on what the game plan is.... just my thoughts.
  10. I probably used an incorrect term. May have been open gym, condition, or even a team meeting. They were there and players were upset about Coach Dean leaving...
  11. According to the DNJ, Coach Dean resigned and is retiring from both coaching and teaching. I suspect it's all tied in with the new administration coming in.... word on the street is that LaVergne Middle School's coaches were there for Monday afternoon practice...
  12. I still just don't understand how LaVergne is the District tournament "host" team, is the highest seeded team playing in our region games, and has to go to Murfreesboro to play their games, as Home team... what happened to "Home Field Advantage" for the hosts and higher seeds?
  13. Where will LaVergne's game be held? Since they were "host team" this year and games were played at Siegel Park, not sure where this game's gonna be held.
  14. Congratulations to all the 7-AAA teams that won tonight. Way to represent our district. Monday night's games are going to be tough. Time to step up and take care of Riverdale. It's very hard to beat the same team multiple times in the same season, without a loss. Let's prove that to be true once again. Gotta take care of business if you're not ready for the season to end. Go Lady Wolverines!
  15. Seriously? I see why you're "friendofnone".... Smyrna's team isn't that bad. Any team in this district is capable of upsetting any other team on a given night. Depends on what shooters are hot, what team is getting fouls called, and which officials are at the game.... Lavergne's guys weren't hitting shots they NEEDED to make, but they also got a bunch of nonsense foul calls. When Smyrna folks are rolling their eyes about calls made against LaVergne and the scorekeeper even quits announcing total team fouls called on LaVergne in the second half, you know something's up. I think Lavergne had 25-30 fouls in the 2nd half, and not sure Smyrna had even reached double-digits. Some were legit fouls, some were called on players that didn't even touch another player. But that's the calls as you get them in this district. Can't blame it all on the refs; the guys have to put points on the board, and they have to keep the other team FROM putting them on there. Oh well, hopefully our guys will take care of Oakland tomorrow night, and gain a little respect back! Go Wolverines!
  16. randymc- I'm pretty sure you're right. I think Julian Reese came from Brentwood Academy, was on the LaVergne team last year but couldn't play due to TSSAA rules about transferring. Also had a baseball player several years back that transferred from Father Ryan to LaVergne and had to play JV his first year at LaVergne. OP- thanks for recognizing LaVergne's still a threat to the 'boro teams. Seems like a lot of folks down there forget the teams at this end of the county are now in their district, and can give them a run for the money. I think 7AAA's pretty much wide open- anyone can win against any other team, just depends on who shows up ready to play that night.
  17. Wow hadn't thought of it that way . So lets just do away with the officials and the rules of the game and let it really come down to execution. From the games in 7AAA I've seen this year there hasn't been much officiating anyway. That way the schools can save $160 a week. You guys moan and groan about officiating, just showing you how stupid and useless it is. I agree it doesn't actually do any good, just makes me feel better to vent a little and to hear that other teams are having the same issues so I know it's just us. I will disagree that the teams that execute will win 100% of the time - every team gets ripped occasionally, where they lose even though they deserved to win. Not saying that was our case tonight, but I have seen it. JP - I'm with you. The girls did look much better tonight. Still a little slow start, but seemed to hang in there and get kicking a lot earlier in the game. They're looking more like the team we know they can be. Good job Lady Wolverines! (and good game to you too, Smyrna. Your ladies had some beautiful shots!)
  18. I think maybe we had the "F" crew tonight.... Seriously, are there ANY decent refs in this district? Week after week we seem to get guys that are horrible. Their performance went downhill as the games went on tonight. They started out decent, but as the girls' game went on their calls were not consistent, and you never knew what it was going to be. I think our boys' game may have set a record for the number of "T's" that were called, and they were called on both teams. Some on players, and at least one on a coach/bench against Smyrna. The fouls were so ludicrous Smyrna's scorekeeper was even rolling his eyes cause so many had been called against LaVergne.
  19. I knew that & saw it done a couple of years ago when LaVergne played at Wilson Central. I got a better explanation, she said they were told when the run out at the very beginning, before the game starts, they cannot go midcourt & high five each other. If they did it would be a technical. She said the referee told this to one of the coaches after the game was over. I have seen teams do this all the time & for a ref to mention it 20+ games in the season, seems rather strange. JP-I remember that game, never could figure out the reasoning for the T's. And now I'm really confused... they can't go midcourt & high five, at the START of the game? Maybe that's just getting a little to close to the opponent, and they're trying to make sure teams aren't instigating trouble. I assume it's still OK for them to come out of the huddle and high-five each other, as long as they stay on their own side of the court? Gee, maybe that's why Siegel's boys' team never comes on the floor when they are announced. I honestly don't remember if the girls did or not. Maybe it's one of those rules that Siegel was informed of, but nobody else was? (People, I'm just kidding. Please don't take me seriously! )
  20. Yep, they were there! I think they were even more impressive during the boys' game... looked like one of the refs and one of Siegel's coaches were making dinner plans or something. Coach seemed to have more to say to the ref (with a smile on his face) than his own team during some timeouts. LOL - Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll be someplace besides the LaVergne/Smyrna game Friday night?
  21. Very tough loss for the Lady Wolverines. But now's the chance that they are still THE team - take the loss, then get up and get ready for the next game. Congratulations to the Lady Warriors - they had a phenomenal game!! I heard several people say they thought Riverdale played the best game they could have played and LaVergne played the worst we've played. I did hear someone say that Riverdale hit something like their first 12 3-point shots! It seemed like Riverdale's shots couldn't miss, and LaVergne's couldn't hit. Riverdale was definitely the better team tonight, but that doesn't mean they're going to be the best team next time we face them. Go Lady Wolverines!
  22. Ok, folks! I apologize if I offended anyone - that was NOT my intention. I'm not taking anyone's replies personally - we are all proud of and support our teams. I will say I agree on some of the attendance comments. I'd love to see a larger support base for OUR team personally, to show more support. I think the crowd support is growing, but people still just don't realize that the girls' games are just as (if not more than) exciting as the boys' games until they've been to a few of these. I wish good luck to all, but obviously, the best of luck to LaVergne. LOL. I think any/all of these teams will need some luck on their side to make it out of the district.
  23. Thanks for the kind words! I don't know exactly what's going on. Jasmine Dale did not play tonight, I think she twisted her knee or something earlier in the week, so she may have been resting it. I don't think Jefferson's playing 100% yet, but she's on her way. The difference may be that the rest of the team has picked up the slack in her absence, so they're "spreading the wealth" and she's not the only threat on the court... I'm not sure on Missy Brimm's status myself. I'd like to hope we can see her back in the lineup, as she's a terrific young player. You put her and Jasmine "Reckless Abandon" Brimm on the court at the same time, and you'd better look out!
  24. Great post j-pha! I'm with you. I'm glad to see someone else sticking up for LaVergne, as it seems like it's been a long time coming. I think LaVergne has a LOT of talented athletes that may have been overlooked along the way. They've gelled and bonded with their teammates, and they're waking people up. I have to say that the Stewarts Creek HS not being built/open yet has probably helped us a lot, since we haven't had to lose players to yet another re-zoning. This is an awesome district - I think every team has talent, and every school has pride in their team. It does really stink in some ways the way state is set up - I think SEVERAL of these teams could make a run at state, but some will have to be eliminated along the way. I hope our girls keep working hard and get their chance! They deserve it before they graduate and go their separate ways. Keep up the good work Lady Wolverines!
  25. I didn't say they said "lets not let LaVergne win" - I think it was "I hope LaVergne doesn't win". There IS a difference. Not saying they did anything to make that the case. I just think it's unprofessional they would even say that, when they're in uniform and being paid to referee that particular game. I didn't hear them say it, it was hearsay from another fan. So who knows? Doesn't really matter anyway. Game's over, we lost. Life goes on. I really doubt that they intentionally did anything to make it so that LHS didn't win, I just think they did a horrible job calling the game. We did have a lot of calls go against us, but I'm sure the Siegel folks saw plenty of calls they think went our way. I just really found it ridiculous when one guy at mid-court is over-riding the other guys who are right there on top of the play. Anyway, enough said. I'll move on. Congrats Siegel. Hopefully we'll get ya next time!
