The name of the award is : The national High School Coaches Association's National High school SENIOR Athlete of the year. Last year , catsbakr , she was a junior. Exact quote from the article: Hosfield, the University of Tennessee signee who set a national softball strikeouts record during her junior year at Riverdale, has been named the National High School Coaches Association national high school senior athlete of the year for softball....her strikeouts per seven innings ratio was 15.88. "I think (the NHSCA honor) signifies mainly her junior season and then how hot she was in early March," Riverdale coach Jeff Breeden said. "She's the best player I've coached, and she's one of the best players to ever play in Tennessee. I think it's very fitting for her." Congrats Cat! great job
  2. You are not going to find anybody out there to agree with you on this statement. There is no pitcher more deserving. Who do you think should be on this list that wasnt included.
  3. In Hendersonville last year they had themselves finishing all their pool games the day before the Saturday games while everybody else had to play at least one pool game Saturday morning that determined their seeding. Then they had the upper bracket ( where they were) playing a lesser number of games than the lower bracket to get to the championship game. ( 7 games vs 5) To top it all off they tried to have top teams who played each other in the same pool face off against each other in the second round of the tounament. ( these were teams they really didnt want to face) Now that is bracketology! You know in Volleyball you have to send the teams into a central location, and they set the pool play and bracket. That prevents tournament bracketology. I dont know what to do to prevent the "soddy lake" syndrome that seems to be spreading.
  4. ASA summer ball does not allow metal cleats. They didnt last summer and have already voted not to wear them next summer. Why is that?????? It isnt because they feel the metal cleats are safer!!
  5. It is a choice except for the the girl NOT wearing metal cleats that gets spiked by a girl that did.
  6. Over 90% +- dont ever play at the "next " level. They never play past high school.
  7. Maybe a solution is what Arizonia is doing : ( esp if it covers safety issues as well as fundamentals in great detail and requires all coaches to teach these) Arizona Becomes Fifth State to Require Fundamentals of Coaching Course FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tim Flannery INDIANAPOLIS, IN (March 25, 2008) - Arizona has become the fifth state to require all interscholastic coaches in their respective states to have training in the fundamentals of coaching. The Arizona Interscholastic Association's (AIA) Legislative Council voted on March 7 to require every coach to complete the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coach Education Program or an approved equivalent. All head and assistant coaches hired before April 1, 2009, whether paid or volunteer, must complete the training before the beginning of the 2009-10 school year. Coaches hired on or after April 1, 2009, have 45 days from the date of hire to complete the training. Arizona joins California, Massachusetts, Oregon and Rhode Island in requiring all coaches to complete a fundamentals of coaching course. In addition, in Texas beginning in June 2008, all new coaches, all part-time coaches and all coaches who have been ejected from contests will be required to take the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course. Although all coaches in Arizona can take the NFHS course or an approved equivalent, the AIA Executive Board has recommended the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course, which satisfies all requirements, including verification of completion. "This education program is the biggest event in the history of the AIA in moving the mission forward," said Harold Slemmer, Ed.D, AIA executive director. "The NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course has a unique student-centered curriculum which supports the academic mission of interscholastic coaching." "We salute Arizona and the other states that have made this commitment to improve coaching at the interscholastic level in the United States," said Robert F. Kanaby, NFHS executive director. "The real winners are the millions of young people who participate in interscholastic sports and receive training from coaches who are grounded in the proper principles of coaching and committed to the core values of education-based athletics." The NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course, which was started in January 2007 as the signature course of the NFHS Coach Education Program, address the following subjects: educational athletics and the role of the coach, the coach as a manager, the coach as a teacher, the coach and interpersonal skills, and the coach and physical conditioning. Currently, 39 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the Fundamentals of Coaching course to satisfy their coaching requirements or have agreed to endorse and promote the course. Five additional states are reviewing the course for adoption, while six other states have their own programs.
  8. I'd say the pitcher and catcher are two pretty fundamental parts of the team, and winning second at 18U Gold is quite something!

    2008 AA

Goodpasture would be a good guess. Stone Memorial if they stay in AA.
  11. Mt. Juliet's coach did a great job firing up her players to get though the losers bracket. Some teams just wilt and die in that situation. Girls can get so down on themselves. Soddy's coach is just a good coach. He wins when it counts.
  12. My guess is that Soddy will take it in one game.
  13. Now, Mr. betheball, tennspy, Harmon will be quiet with his greater than thou attitude, hopefully. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Congrats to Goodpasture, I knew all that hard work would pay off. Congrats to the coach for playing such a tough schedule. Keep it up at State!!
  14. So Devon and Goodpasture beat Brentwood, good for Devon. She is a very good pitcher. Tell her to hang in there, playing the tough schedule will pay off in the end. As far as Brentwood being unbeaten by a Tennessee team, take a look at who they have played. A couple of good teams , but... Scheduled meetings with each opponent: · 2 games against Baylor (Division II, 15-10) · 2 games against Centennial (AAA, 0-3) · 2 games against Collierville (AAA, 3-6) · 2 games against Forrest (A, 20-7) · 2 games against Franklin (AAA, 0-8) · 2 games against Hickman Co. (AAA, 6-7) · 2 games against Hillsboro (AAA, 0-6) · 2 games against Hillwood (AAA, 1-7) · 2 games against Independence (, 0-5) · 2 games against John Overton (AAA, 6-7) · 2 games against Ravenwood (AAA, 6-5) · 2 games against Shelbyville (AAA, 5-13-1) · 2 games against St. Benedict (Division II, 5-8) · 1 game against non-member schools · 1 game against Bradley Central (AAA, 22-4) · 1 game against Camden Central (AA, 30-7) · 1 game against Cornersville (A, 12-4) · 1 game against Father Ryan (Division II, 13-25) · 1 game against Friendship Christian (A, 30-9) · 1 game against Goodpasture (AA, 23-12) · 1 game against Knox Central (AAA, 26-7) · 1 game against Lebanon (AAA, 14-10) · 1 game against Riverdale (AAA, 40-4-1) · 1 game against Sycamore (AA, 24-12-1) · 1 game against Tullahoma (AAA, 10-11) · 1 game against White House (AA, 15-16-1)
  15. We know, We know, We know
  16. Quite simply it means we are going to hear about the fact that GPS won the Soddy tournamnet over and over for say------ the next three years-------or maybe longer. Is that explaination enough?
  17. Ken, who else is in your tournament this weekend? Where is it being played? Crocket park? Fly park? Is there a web site? Are there other Alabama teams in it, like Vestavia, Huntsville, or Hueytown? They are ranked 1, 2 and 3, in 6A this week on the Alabama high school web site. Hoover is 4, Sparkman is 5, but actually when you get to the top five in 6a all could be called the best in the state. They will all be tough.
  18. I have never heard of these girls, what age are they , what age group did they play in travel and for team? What is their record to make you think they are the best? Riley Isham (Kingston), Shelley Fagg (Heritage) and Mandy Brockman (CAK).
  19. Who did Brooke and Kaci play for in high school? College? What summer team?
  20. You know we are off the subject which is Goodpasture softball but concerning the alternate topic of top pitchers to leave Tennessee there have been several good ones. The most successful , I would have to say is Rhodes. She is pitching a lot , and successfully for a TOP 2 DIVISION I College program, Tennessee. Peroni was recruited by the same top 2 college which says a lot too. Faircloth and Booth , I dont think ever pitched 18U Gold , or at the college world series and they didnt play for a top two college team. That doesnt mean they werent successful around here. I think it is harder to be great now. Batters are better, coaches are better, kids are in more hitting lessons from age 9. Ball is much better than it was is Booth's and Faircloth's time, at least around here.

    Beech playday

Isnt Soddy the team that walked off the field after losing to Red bank in the state championship game, and refused to shake their hands? I think so. Sore losers still.

    Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!! great post
  23. (Pitchers: Falon Catalano, Riverdale; Ashley Elrod, Rossview; Sally Gale, Bearden; Ashley Myatt, Dickson County; Chelsea Owens, Lincoln County; Tarrah Tucker, Hickman County; Nikki Waters, Soddy-Daisy) Ok, Mr and Mrs. Catalano, Elrod, Gale, Bearden, Myatt, Owens, Tucker, and Waters, YOU ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO DO THE BOOKS, you have been caught cheating. You are also not allowed to influence the coach any longer. It is obvious you are a brown noser and it is bringing politics into girls softball. There it is settled. Now all the little pitchers, Red Bank and otherwise, will be treated fairly.
