  1. Why not put Smyrna, LaVergne, Oakland, Riverdale, Blackman, and Siegel in the same district for all sports? Lebanon and Wilson County would also be great additions. It's silly to have Warren County, Cookeville, and White County in this district because of the distance.
  2. Who is going to replace the lefty who pitched them into the state and also won them the state - didn't he win 4 games in two weeks?
  3. Yeah by a total of 4 runs (now 5 runs counting today's game with Franklin). Franklin isn't all that - all the teams in the state are about the same with the exceptions of a few pitchers (pitcher for single A Forrest, Farragut, Collierville). Choate threw well today. Umpire missed a strike out call on a Franklin's hitter with two outs, and give credit to the kid because he hit the next pitch up the middle to score two. Bush league by Franklin by not going out to third base line when names were called before the game, and their coach acting "major league" by giving there pitchers "time" in the bullpen when they've been warming up for 30 minutes :^) Oh well, it all must have worked because they won :^)
  4. Was it Frankin last year in the state that lost a heartbreaker to Tullahoma (error with 2 outs in the last inning that let the flood gates open for the Wildcats)?
  5. Like someone said earlier, too bad the schools have gotten so big. It leaves alot of kids out. Participation in sports within the schools is a very small % compared to the total student body (especially 5A vs 1A) - a student body of 2000 with a team of 20 only has 1% participation. Too bad schools don't have the resources to have 2 or 3 teams within one school(and each of those teams with a freshman, jv, and varsity) - talk about rivalries. I know, keep on dreaming :^)
  6. You got it right Slyder - money driven. It's not for the love of the game much anymore. All the kids got to have the "right" bats, cleats, glove, uniform. If you don't have the right brand, you're an outsider. Everybody is trying to be Mr. ESPN. TSSAA is a BIG part of it. $7 for parking and they charge children to get in like the UT Vols at Neyland Stadium. It's a money-making business in all of society. From the CEO's getting undeserved $400 million retirement packages to A-Rod getting $millions per year. Sorry to be so pessimistic (and stay out of retirement because you have good reads).
  7. Tuesday, 10am at MTSU vs Franklin
  8. Coty Woods and Ben Jones came up BIG tonight! Coty set 'em down and Jones knocked them down(3 hits) - single that scored two to tie!
  9. You are right LCborn. Thanks for setting it straight. Your words are right, but they are easier said than done. The coach is the authority that has the easiest job putting his foot down because like you said: he can tell the player to go. A teacher can't tell the student to "go" because TN Constitution says (unfortunately) that every kid has a right to an education whether they want it or not. That leaves the parent, and they have the kid for a life time :^)
  10. If you want to know why a player acts the way he does, just follow them home. It's true in the classroom, on the field, and in society.
  11. Monday and Friday are one and done. Wednesday is only for homefield advantage
  12. You are right David, some people maybe "eternally" connected to a team. Theoretically, a baseball game could last forever. Too bad we have to go to work sometimes and eventually a team would run out of pitchers :^) Field of Dreams baby! Help me I'm melting.
  13. You are right David - baseball is like the Bible in some aspects. There are main things that there should be a consensus on. However, baseball is not like the Bible in that baseball is fallible and the Bible is infallible. Man made baseball rules (uninspired by God), and man wrote the Bible (inspired by God). You knew that I couldn't pass up a theological debate :^) We forget that baseball is a game without eternal consequences.

    Best Hitters

I've only seen them once, but there are two kids from Overton that can rip it: the lefty pitcher who has signed with Vandy and their other player who has signed with MTSU. Dodd at Oakland can rip also.
  15. rebelguy - yes I did play sports and for coaches who didn't cuss. I had a football coach who always said: "God first, family second, school third, and then the team." The problem is that we have too much sport and not enough integrity. Kids playing for adults who haven't grown up or have things in proper order. If you read my reply, you would know that I said that the coach's punishment was too harsh but he should be held accountable. You kids talk big on this site but would be the first to cut and run if confronted with real trouble, not just the kind on the diamond - imho. And who said that Christians didn't make mistakes? Christians do make mistakes and are forgiven for them, but this doesn't take away the results of their mistakes.
  16. Yes this is a sports site, but people with class approach a topic with tact and at least a bit of wisdom. 1) the coach crossed a line 2) does the principal or his school system have a set of rules that coaches and teachers sign on to (probably not a specific one addressing this coach's actions but a general one regarding "role model" or "appropriate behavior") 3) what are the consequences if an employee breaks such rule (again, probably not a specific action for this situation but probably an "at the discretion of the principal" imho, the coach getting suspended for the rest of the year for cussing was too harsh. Why not a two game suspension like TSSAA rule for getting ejected? However, I don't know the whole story. Does the principal have a recorded history on this coach with similar complaints and has the coach been warned before? This is a life altering event for anyone's life, and it's silly for people to speculate without all the information (and I bet it's not all here on CoachT.com). And it doesn't help a discussion when you Trojan E throw out terms loosely like "Christian" just to try to get some sympathy votes :^( If this coach is the type of man you say he is then he will be fine because his faith will get him through. Oh no, did I offend you for saying "faith"? A little touchy aren't we or a little insecure :^)
  17. Don't bring into the discussion the word "Christian" unless you know what it means. No, it doesn't mean just confessing your sins and going to church on Sundays - you are talking about religion. I'm talking about a daily walk with Christ which is only possible through His power. BTW, my self-control only goes the closer I walk with Him. God says "be holy because I am holy." Yes we all sin, but there is more responsiblity for a Christian in a leadership role. If the coach is a professing Christian, then he walks a closer line just like a preacher because he is a witness in front of many. Acting any other way gives place for non-believers to mock God. And by your name calling and poor attitude, you are portraying either a "babe" in the Christian walk or an unbeliever. I hope that it is the former.
  18. "Chuck is a proven Christian leader, who directs himself professionally at school and on the field. This is a total injustice! " Proven Christian leaders should not be dropping the f-bomb anywhere. If his anger or disappointment is leading him to sin, then he needs a break from what is causing it - baseball. Remember what is in the heart comes out of the mouth. And, yes I have dropped the f-bomb but pray for self-control often.
  19. It's just like everything else in society, cut corners to cut costs. Almost everything in the DNJ is taken from the AP so they don't have to pay as many reporters and they don't have to worry about deadlines (my paper gets delivered right after midnight). So our local paper isn't really local anymore, imho.
  20. It seems as though the "bad" fans out number the "good" fans, or maybe they are just more vocal? I will say that the number of good umpires throughout the season outnumbered the bad ones. However, the only complaint that I have about the umpires, especially when it comes to the region, substate, and state is that some of them read too many sports articles in the paper or posts on CoachT and let it affect their perception of the game. Most umpires are objective, but it is annoying to see a few make the majority of the "close calls" for the teams with the higher record, the players with the big name, or programs with the well-known tradition or more intimidating coaches.
  21. Some don't not call it a "screw up" because I asked some coaches the same question: why didn't they pitch the short stop (who is supposed to be their #1) on Tuesday? They replied that it wasn't his time in the rotation - in other words, his arm hadn't had the scheduled days of rest. At this time of year, some would say that it crazy strategy. Others would say that it is the coach looking after the player's best interest - the health of his arm. With the pitching that Colliersville has, looks like they can do what they want.
  22. Another way to look at it: pitchers on the opposing team came ready to throw. The kid from Collierville was unbelievable. I talked to some college coaches at the game, he is being scouted by DI schools like UT and Ole Miss. So he will probably get drafted. Hats off to him, his hook was nasty and the fastball was just as good.
  23. I heard that Pomerance is your number #4 pitcher, is that right? If that is true, then you have a pretty good argument.
