  1. I think the new classifications may be for some sports (like basketball) but not for soccer.
  2. I think this is code for "your team is still in while his is not."
  3. Yes, and he is the best player of all those you've listed by far! Nessy, Santa, BF and TF are no match for Eddie.
  4. Since WMAK is showing the Bearden/Farragut game you can see both!
  5. Just a thought...the longer we go without a reported score, the more likely that Karns won.
  6. I think whoever scores first will win this one! I feel like Baylor's defense could protect a lead, but if McCallie should score first, I think Baylor is probably done. 1-0 either way.
  7. We as people who love this game need to police ourselves. If I had a player who received repeated red cards, he wouldn't be on my team very long. A team cannot function well on a long-term basis without discipline. Good teams and programs will take care of themselves. Yes, there are situations that arise that are unacceptable (like those you've described). Here I am responding to a single situation. If the same team or same player are involved in multiple incidents, then there is something to talk about. Teams canrefuse to schedule other problem teams and referee schedulers assign strong crews to the games where problems most often exist it. It won't take very long-these problem players and coaches will soon find themselves isolated on the outside looking in. I just don't think another TSSAA rule to enforce can be nearly as effective as pressures applied from within the community: Schools, coaches, referees and players all working together.
  8. Please! Let's not encourage TSSAA to police our sport. Red cards already punish players (missing a game) and teams (having to play down a man). In any other sport, you get to substitute for an ejected player. If there are repeat offenders, then they need to be dealt with appropriately and I'm sure they will be. A knee jerk reaction based on an isolated incident or two would not be in the best interest of our game. I'm certain these stats are available somewhere, but how many high school games were contested this spring and how many red cards were issues? Now lets compare to the recently completed World Cup and I'll bet you find that we have far fewer problems than our national teams.
  9. I saw the Webb score, Baylor/McCallie play on Thursday. How about the West? When are these middle region games scheduled or do we have some results?
  10. Baylor (3) at McCallie (2) King's Academy (4) at Webb (1)
  11. Many CAK and Webb students enter the school way before High school so it is unlikely that either of these schools will reap any kind of windfall. Catholic is a little different since there is not a lower or middle school on the same campus. Nonetheless, Catholic is expecting their largest class ever next year, adding 10 new classrooms to accommodate all of their anticipated students. Webb is full and has been turning away applicants for years (not sure about CAK). And while each existing public school is losing a small portion of their student body, the fact remains that the West Knoxville area is growing, families are moving into these school zones and these programs will be fine. If anyone has seen the level of play of these school's JV teams, you would know that each team could afford to lose 10% of their players and still be very successful. One final thought: these decisions were made on the basis of providing education. Athletics is certainly a part of the overall education experience but not the core. Thats why we have soccer (or any other sport for that matter) clubs without geographical boundaries to fall back on.
  12. To me, playing dirty implies an intent to hurt or cheat. While Marvin does get quite a few fouls and has received a few yellows, his intent should never questioned. Was Pete Rose a dirty player? (I know, wrong sport, but still a great example!) No, he was called Charlie Hustle and always played right on the edge. Marvin plays on the edge because he is competing in the middle against usually the most skilled player on the other team; in the spaces where the ball is most often (the middle); and the areas where successful teams always contest (defensive third) the hardest. Marvin will wear you out because he never stops competing. The match-up against Radcliffe last night was a classic example. Both players contested for ball. The referee let them play, only calling a foul when necessary. Both had a couple of knocks and had to be exhausted by the end of the game.
  13. Webb still needs to beat King's to advance. Let's not let them get ahead of themselves! I've always thought that one very good team gets left at home from the Division II east region. Last year it was Webb. Who will it be this year?
  14. Actual Webb 2-0-1 McCalle 1-0-2 Baylor 1-1-1 King's Acad 0-0-3 East Semi-Finals: Webb hosts King's McCallie hosts Baylor
  15. Why would you even schedule this game for this part of the season if you are not going to play them straight up? Top 3 from Middle and West Top 2 from East. We rest, get healthy, practice, and try not to get too stale b4 Murfreesboro.
