GWAVE1, didn't Portland, 3A, win the state championship in 2000-01. They run the wing-t and have for many years. As with any offense if you teach it properly it can be effective. I like both the wing-t and the I, but the wing-t is not what it used to be. There are mulitple formations and teams pass much more than they used to do. I know in class 2A that the wing-t is run more than anything else. Last year alone both finalist ran the wing-t and the 2A champions the past few years have run the wing-t against some very good defenses.

He is at Goodpasture coaching TE's and LB's in football and assistant coach in baseball.

I spoke with Coach Pack after the game and he did not have a problem with the play. It was 4th down and GP was just trying to get a 1st down. Coach Pack stated it was their responsibility to make the play. The GP player Williams made a good catch and broke a couple of tackles. There was nothing classless about the play.

I am not sure what schedule you looked at, but Westmoreland comes to Goodpasture on October 24th.

This was not part of their freshman initiation. These were 3 Freshman who took it upon themselves to act in a way that is not acceptable. They had to apologize to the Westmoreland team and coaches, clean the cabins, and pay to replace everything that was damaged. The Goodpasture coaches went out that afternoon and purchased replacements for everything that was damaged. The GP coach apologized to the Westmoreland team and coaches also. These three young men have made a terrible mistake and will be disciplined by the coach, school, and parents up to removal from the team and school. Goodpasture is a class act. A mistake in judgement was made, responsibility was taken, and correction was made. I believe that every team has players who make poor judgements. It is how you react to those poor judgements that makes you who the person you become and also how the coach reacts makes the type of program you have.

WesVols, thanks for your comments. I was at the game and on the sidelines and I have to disagree with your statement about the relaxed coverage. BA did not pull anything back the entire game and had their starters in at the end when GP scored. Most of BA's offensive yardage was on 3 plays. I would not say that the errors GP committed could have changed the game, but it would have been much more of a game without them. The reason I made the orginal comments was to answer the statement that GP cannot compete with schools in larger classifications. Again thanks for your thoughts. It is sad the teams will not be playing each other next year.

So in other words you made up the newspaper statement to downgrade GP. I also can see by your remarks that you know nothing about the GP program or the game in general except to make remarks that try to tear down.

I was not saying that the team with the most yards wins the game. I was answering your statement that GP could not compete with programs like BA. With the statements you make you must really hate GP. By the way you did not answer my question of which paper Buggs was quoted in.

Which paper did you get that quote from on Buggs rushing for 200 yards? Just wondering. As far as GP not being able to compete against BA, ask BA's coaches. If you look at the stats from the game GP outgained BA, but made 2 errors that cost them the game. I saw the game and I think GP can compete with any of the larger schools in DIV II. I guess 4-1 this year, 5-1 if want to include Lipscomb, against Div II teams is not completing. Please do not say things that are downgrading without knowledge of what you are talking about.

I guess 4.4 speed is not fast enough!

The scores since 1999 are: 1999 GP 46-20; 2000 GP 28-14 and 26-8; 2001 GP 37-8. 2002 ?

Please do not make statements about people or things you do not know. I am not sure about Coach Flatt, but Coach Martin does not run the score up on anyone, just ask the Houston County coach this year. The score could have been much worse, but Coach Martin pulled the starters in the second quarter and let the starters in one series to start the third quarter. By the end of the game they were playing freshman. I have seen this pattern in every game that GP plays were they are the dominate team.

Last year was in response to the fake punt in 94, which was not needed even if they were having punting problems. If it is blocked and there is a score you still win 28-7. As for Father Ryan, it was not an on-side kick, the kicker was told to kick it hard on the ground and he almost missed the ball. If you were at the game I am sure you noticed that GP did not try to recovery the kick and they could have.
