  1. Heritage showed a lot of guts playing without Tipton. Being down 16 in the 4th quarter, they rallied and cut it to 4 and had the ball with a minute left. Heritage really missed Tipton, and , of course, they already miss Cait. This team could have been a special team here in Blount County. Hopefully, Tipton will be back soon for the Lady Mountaineers. What about WB. Wins at Maryville and at Heritage, but losses to Bearden and Sevier County. They are a hard team to figure, but, speaking of missing players, many may not realize that their starting posts from last year are no longer on the team as both have quit. That has really dealt a blow to Coach Fowler's senior class and depth, especially in the paint as they probably only have one true post on the whole team. It should be an interesting 2nd half of district 4-AAA play which starts tonight.
  2. Exactly what will respect get you in high school basketball. Each team has a chance to play in post-season tournaments to advance. It matters not where you are "ranked" as if the guys who rank ever see most high school games, and it definitely matters not if you are respected. What matters is post-season victories, and the players and coaches control that, not sportswriters.
  3. This was a game which saw the 17-1 Bearden Bulldogs get up by 9 in the first half, fall behind by 9 late in the third, then win it in the last minute. William Blount came in 5-0 in the district and played extremely well on the road. They handled the Bulldog pressure well until the last couple of minutes. Sibley and T White hit big shots and WB was held without a FG the last 5 minutes of the game. An extremely boisterous crowd was also on hand for the Tuesday night affair.
  4. Stiltner, I got your message a couple of weeks ago but failed to call you back. What did you want? By the way, good job OSHS girls. Continue your success... Coach Cupp
  5. I don't care about the officiating. Will the clock work this time????? Or will we be guessing how much time is left the whole game. You would think Sev County would have checked the clock before the season started.
  6. Bradley is getting better, but it will take another year or so to overcome the debacle that was Bears football in 2004. McMinn 28 Bradley 12.
  7. How stupid is seeing a return man stand at the 1 yard line, jump up and try to catch the kickoff before it goes into the end zone so he will have a chance to return a kick. This is not 1960;kickers can kick it into the end zone.
  8. Osborne went out late in the 3rd quarter with a minor knee injury but is back. The Govs have a few that play both sides of the football. East Tennessee weather is not much different than your weather in the summer. It is just flat out hot and humid. They are talking that we might get back in the 80's hopefully by the weekend. This is a huge game for the Govs, more emotionally than anything. Last year, they got off to an 0-7 start before winning their last 3. Part of the problem last year was due to their poor start early in the season. Lack of confidence became a big issue. If they can get a win Saturday, it will, I think, send them towards the playoffs with the Senior-filled squadron. A loss will be a huge blow to their minds again and could start a downward spiral.
  9. The Govs started out like gangbusters scoring on their two opening drives making it look easy against the emotionally drained Sevier County Bears. The Govs then intercepted a pass at their own 10 and ran it back to the Bear 15, but a block in the back nullified the return and pinned them deep in their own territory. After stopping Sev Co the next possession, the Govs ran a punt back 95 yeards for a touchdown;however, it was nullified by a block in the back and once again pinned the Govs deep in their own territory. After that, it was all Sev County. William Blount was to never get back on track. The Bears never gave up, and it paid off for the week zero victory. From 14-0 to a 25-14 loss definitely put the Govs into an emotionally drained state as they prepare for Northwest this week. An interesting note...How will playing a 2:00 Saturday afternoon game be a factor. Can you say..........HOT!!!
  10. We will once again be covering the William Blount Governors live each game on AM 1400 and Am 850. Listen and have a chance to win a free round of golf at Royal Oaks every game. Be the 6th caller at 919-8484 every time Wb scores a TD. At the end of the game, we will draw from all of the callers. The person drawn out will win a free round. Also, we will be giving away 2 free Chick Fil-A Combo meals each game.
  11. South Doyle tried to give the game away in the 4th quarter, but they held on in the end. The Cherokees played solid for 3 quarters especially on the boards outrebounding the Govs by 18. This was a big win for S Doyle as they broke the WB jinx. Coach Baumann will be the first to point out that this did not look like a David Baumann Basketball team Tuesday Night. They not only got blistered on the boards, but they also got outhustled. I think that the team got a little reminder of what Baumann Ball is all about at Wednesday's practice if you know what I mean. Hopefully the Govs will rebound as they play at Heritage Friday Night.
  12. Play the county schools without any tuition players. They might not win, but it might be a bit more competitive. City schools have better players, no doubt. However, they stil play by a different set of rules. Please tell me how many of the schools playing for the championship are non-tuition schools.
  13. A great deal of vandalism did take place on Wednesday evening here at WBHS. A lot of red spray paint on the press box and on the scoreboard. The underlying theme of the vandalism was that Mike White Field was not the Home of the Governors; instead, we were the Home of the B****es. Interesting point made by our crosscounty rivals. I usually believe that a lot of these things are inside jobs. This one, however, is not. There is a great deal of cleaning to be done.
  14. These three teams are head and shoulders above the rest in the region. I have seen Soddy and Ooltewah and they are both impressive. Right now I give the nod to Ooltewah because of their explosiveness on offense.
  15. Bizazz, I gave up about 5 of those home runs in 1985 to Unicoi County, 3 of them to start the game when William Blount visited UC in an in-school game. I knew they were trying to set some type of record. Their field was not all that big, but 101 is impressive. And that was before teams played 50 games a year. Let's face it, Farragut will not be beat when they actually care. And they care during tournament time.

    gameday24?

Baseball (high school) is really a difficult sport to compare teams because of the pitching differences. However, the best teams can win regardless of who pitches. Many times, fans/players like to underestimate losses when they had to pitch someone that I guess is not "good enough." I have an idea. When you win a game, you win. When you lose, you lose. It is that simple. Many of you just write off losses when your "ACE" didn't pitch. Guess what? This is not softball. You better have at least 3 good pitchers or, quite honestly, you are not a very good team.

    gameday24?

For the record, and for the second time on this thread, Powell did NOT beat William Blount. It really does not matter because both teams are very even. However, on the Saturday that these 2 teams played, regardless of who pitched, or who might have been trying to lose because they don't play their best on weekends, or whatever else reason people give when their teams lose, William blount won in a slug fest.

    gameday24?

I will agree that the districts are even. However, Powell lost to WB. Get your facts correct before posting.
  19. I see that the "Mouth-Doyle" fans were up to their usual last evening. Trash-talking against Maryville/WB/Heritage/West/Bearden/Sev County is at least understandable due to their success. Trash-talking Farragut shows a lack of intelligence.
  20. According to the tiebreakers given in the district meeting before the year began, tiebreaker 1 is head to head. Heritage and West split. Tiebreaker 2 is record vs the best team in the district and on down. Both were swept by Farragut but Heritage beat S Doyle. Heritage wins. The numbers drawn are the last tiebreaker according to the papers distributed. We will have to see, though.
  21. 4:00 and 6:30. I am not sure which game is first.
  22. It is set regardless of today's games because of tiebreakers: 1)Farragut 2)S Doyle 3)WB 4)Mary/Heritage 5)Mary/Heritage 6)West 7)Bearden 8)Sev County
  23. The pools are set for the District 4-AAA tournament beginning Friday. The Farragut/Maryville game is basically irrelevant as well as the Heritage/West game because of tiebreakers. Pool 1 1)Farragut 4)Maryville/Heritage 5)Maryville/Heritage 8) Sev County Pool 2 2)South Doyle 3)William Blount 6)West 7)Bearden Round 1 will have Farragut vs Sev County Maryville vs Heritage South Doyle vs Bearden William Blount vs West Heritage cannot finish worse than 5th because they beat South Doyle and West did not. West cannot fall behind Bearden because they beat Bearden twice.
  24. WB 2-1 over Bearden in a classic.
  25. WB beats West at West 12-1 in 5 innings. Wojo gets the win.
