  1. West will win if they bring their "want to win" attitude. I think they will do just that. They are a lot like Tennessee. When they want to play, they are pretty good. Sometimes, however, they just go through the motions.
  2. Tuesday, Mar 2 Fulton vs Stone @ Alcoa 6:00 Carter vs Alcoa @ Alcoa 7:45 The Carter @ Alcoa game can be heard on AM 1470 in Maryville and on the internet at truthradio.tv.
  3. William Blount @ Maryville 7:00 truthradio.tv Girls Region 2AAA Semis
  4. A small bit of incorrect info is on the Region 2 AAA times. All games are being played at higher seed sites throughout the Region Tourney in boys and girls action. Therefore there are not games at 6 and 7:45. It is my understanding that all games will start at 7:00.
  5. Sure I may have overreacted....but the use of the phrase "holier than thou" struck a nerve. I try my best to live as best as possible, but I surely do not see myself as holier than thou.
  6. I just wish a coach would actually admit that they have done it. I think it would be great if like a team showed up and stood beside the coach the whole game and lost like 98-0. Now that would be some good humor. One day TSSAA might make the necessary change to make the consolation mean something if this were to happen a great deal.
  7. You can hear the GP/Alcoa game on AM 1470 in Blount County and at truthradio.tv on the internet.
  8. I know I said I would only post once but this warrants a comment. Obviously, you didn't understand me. You don't know the coach or anything about the situation (by your own admission). So let me be a little more direct. Find something else to do besides slam Coach P and GP. (In other words, shut up!) If you want to start a thread about the system being flawed or Fulton is the obvious choice, blah, blah, blah. Fine but don't use it as your outlet to bash the GP Coach or team. I would think one as a former coach wouldn't use an outlet as such to bash another coach or program(GP,Carter,AE) but you do say in another thread that you coached at WB (enough said). Maybe you just read what you want to read. I have plainly stated on THIS thread that I think the move was smart so if you think that is bashing Coach P you have a tough time with reading comprehension. Yes I coached at WB. Yes I coached at Oliver Springs. Yes my name is Scott Cupp. Yes my telephone number is 621-3065. Anything else you want to know because I, unlike many on these boards, am not afraid to speak my mind with a NAME ATTACHED. It is my opinion and maybe it is wrong. The suspensions whether legitimate or not was a good move. If legitimate, the kids will learn a good lesson. If not, the school avoids Fulton. Win Win situation for Coach P. Good move!
  9. As a Christian, I do not appreciate the indirect slam at my choice of worship. I don't know anything about GCA, but I can tell you that sometimes Christian Schools are not full of Christian people like you might think sir. I used to teach at a Christian School and a good percentage of the students had never seen a church door.
  10. Fri, Feb 26 William Blount Lady governors @ Campbell County Lady cougars 7:00 EST truthradio.tv Region 2AAA
  11. As Ed McMahan woould have said, You are correct sir. I was actually coaching at William Blount about 5 years ago when we lost district semis, won the first 2 of region, lost region championship, but we did lose the Sub state game at Science Hill. We went 4-4 in the post-season. That is absurd.
  12. In order to make it to the sub-state, you must win the first 2 region games. Now I ask you the question...assuming Stone would have won (and I don't give a flip about rankings..if you know how they are done you wouldn't care about them either) your choices are 1) Play Stone Memorial and then the winner of Carter/CAK 2) Play Alcoa and then the winner of Fulton/Loudon So would it have been easier to beat Stone AND Carter or Alcoa AND Fulton? Now, as it turned out the following scenario has played out for them They now have to beat Alcoa AND Carter instead of Stone AND Fulton. Now I ask everyone again...Was it better to lose or to win the consolation game?
  13. Obviously, SOME of you do not understand my rationale. I do not know anything about GP and the situation that has transpired. I do not know Coach P. All I know is the current system continues to be heavily flawed. Losing 2 games in a row at tournament time should not even warrant a move to the next tournament. If you agree that it should, then I would like to hear your reasoning. Whenver there is a dominant team in a District like Fulton...(and all you guys can get on here and try to play up Carter and AE all you want, but FULTON IS THE OBVIOUS TEAM TO BEAT in the whole region) it is beneficial to lose the consolation game, and that is what occurred.
  14. I agree with both of your posts but I think those moves will mean FAR LESS MONEY for the TSSAA. The reason I propose my setup (and one that has been mentioned several times) is because it only involves one minor change in the current set-up. I am just asking to change the oil, not change the engine. This proposed change would only involve one less game per region which is not that bad. Furthermore, it might not even lose money because most teams might have a bigger fan base for the consolation game if it meant something. The TSSAA will never go the 4 teams only making the post-season. Basketball is known as being a tournament sport.
  15. Interesting??? I say this. If a coach is really not interested in winning the consolation game, why try to hide it behind mysterious substitutions and /or suspensions. Why not just say...Folks we will be better off if we lose this game. It gives us a better chance to make it to the State tournament??? Don't deny what you are doing. Speak up and say it. We are not stupid you know??? Until a few coaches do this, no changes will be made to the current system.
  16. 4 games in one day is not permitted by TSSAA unless it is on weekend. And think about it....why not make the same person pay twice the amount since there are twice as many games. It is the T$$AA.
  17. Hello??????? Has Fulton lost to a AA team all year? No. Although the game had not been played, it had been decided. Now there may have been good reason for the suspensions. My question is...would that have happened if it were a Region Semi-final game? If the answer is without a doubt yes, then that is fine. But this has happened on more than one occasion where a coach suspends players for the consolation game. It is not a coincidence that in most of these situations, the best team in their District is by far the most difficult matchup out of all 7 other teams that are going to Region play. I am not knocking the move. I think it is smart. My point is it would not have to happen if the consolation game meant something.
  18. It has been well documented over the years about the foolish set-up of the post-season basketball tournaments. The TSSAA needs to take a little less money and do the right thing. Only take 3 teams to the Region tournament...It is so simple. This will make the consolation game mean something and keep teams from losing on purpose in order to stay out of a dominant team's bracket in the region. District Tournament Champ gets a bye into semi-finals of Region 2 and 3 seeds play each other in first round. Come on TSSAA....Give me one good reason besides a few dollars that keeps you guys from doing this. No one desreves to make the Region tournament after losing 2 straight games!
  19. So why were those 2 not in the starting line-up? We've seen it before. It may not be the most ethical thing to do, but it is the smart thing to do. It is the classic case of "suspended for rules violations." Until the TSSAA makes the consolation game mean something, this will continue to go on. It is a simple fix.....only allow 3 teams to make it to the region. District Champ gets 1st round bye and only has to win one game to make it to substate. TSSAA needs to take a little less money and do the right thing.
  20. Tues, Feb 23 6:30 WBHS vs Heritage (Consolation) 8:00 Farragut vs Maryville (Championship) AM 1470 in Blount County and truthradio.tv on the internet.
  21. Does anyone know what teams are in this year's Arby's classic, and when a schedule might be released?
  22. WB makes it 13 in a row. A lot of these 13 games were just like last night. Somehow, someway the Mounties find a way to lose it. I will say this though, the Heritage defense is the best we have seen all year....Heritage needs to keep their heads up. They have more wins on their schedule....they matchup very well with Bearden.
  23. After seeing the WB Catholic game, I am going to say Catholic has more losses on their schedule. They barely survived against a heavily undermanned Governor team. I think Catholic played very well against Farragut, but their defense against AE, WB, and Webb was not as dominant as I was expecting. The Governors have played Bearden and Heritage in District play. To make comparisons, both Bearden and Heritage have much better defenses. HOwever, Catholic has much better offenses. The Irish need to step it up on D or they will definitely lose to Maryville and probably one more team in the District. If they improve on D then the Maryville game will be their only other loss.
  24. The loss Friday was anything but a coaching loss. Bad luck. I was once taught a great lesson in the coaching arena: Winning and Losing are imposters...in other words, for 59 minutes and 42 seconds it was a well-played game for both schools (minus some poor defense). Okay...the Governors caught a 60 yard Hail Mary and got a 2 pt conversion for the win. Now, in my opinion, had the normal play occurred, Karns would have won and all of the talk from the Karns faithful would be what a great comeback they made and all of the WB faithful would have been talking about their defensive issues. So how does 1 miraculous play change the other 99.99% of the game. Tell it like it is...both teams moved the ball with ease against the other's defense. Blount just got the break late...and we're still minus on the break board for the last 3 years. Karns has a fine team and so does WB.
  25. I am not sure why Karns should beat WB Friday night. Karns has won 2 games in 2 years. Now I know that this year's team is much better, but to say that they should win might be a bit extreme. A HHS fan saying that Karns should win means that he feels really confident about his chances. Interesting considering HHS hasn't beaten WB in over 10 years. The good news for Heritage is that they will be 4-1 when they play WB. Normally it is at the end of the season and they have already given up. Another reason for HHS to be optimistic is WB will be coming off of a trip to see their ole buddy Coach Meadows. The coaches will have to do an outstanding job getting the energy out of their players at the Heritage game.
