  1. My guess is that Big Sandy will win this game. I'm not sure if it was played tonight or when it is, but Obion Central is going to be down this year. Big Sandy, I believe, has a pretty solid team going down there.
  2. I want to give major props to Coach Hart and the Gibson Co. Pioneers. He has them playing extremely well to kick off the season. This is one of the quickest Gibson Co. boys teams that I've seen in a long time! Gibson Co. beat Dresden the other night by around 20 points in a game where GC didn't play particularly well. Tonight GC beat a very talented Henry Co. team 68-63. Some may look at the score and think that the football players didn't play for Henry Co., however Henry Co. was at full strength. I hope the boys keep this up and keep playing like they are! Teams are going to underestimate you guys and then wonder what happen just like tonight. Keep up the intensity and good things will happen!!!
  3. GC defeates Henry Co. tonight 80-52. GC scored 50 points in the first half and never looked back. Heather Griffin was high scorer for GC as she dropped 32 points which might be a career high for her, not sure. Heather Butler dropped in 19 and Aubrey Reedy had 9, I believe. Henry Co. handled the GC press alot better than what I thought and good job to them on that! GC will travel to Huntingdon on Tuesday night to take on the Mustangs. I honestly don't know why we play Huntingdon this year but we do. Congrasts to GC and keep this up!!!!
  4. Definately a big no. This years Liberty team is very talented, no doubt. Liberty, this year, is my pick to win the AA state championship even over Knox Fulton. However, that team back in 2007 was a team that doesn't come around West TN too often or even the whole state for that matter. Liberty finished ranked #17 in the country and played the #3 team in the nation, Mater Dei California, to a 4 point game. They also played Oak Hill Academy to like a 15 point game I believe. That Liberty team was definately one of, if not the best team to come through West TN. They were stacked from top to bottom!
  5. I honestly believe we're just as good as last year and I'm trying not to be biased by saying that. If you look at last years starting lineup, our big 3 (Griffin, Reedy, Butler) all averaged double digit points while Jennings and Garner were more defensive purposes and averaged around 4-5 PPG. This year, GC has 4 girls that can score and 1 girl being in for defensive purposes only in the starting lineup. GC plays Henry Co. tomorrow night at Gibson Co. This should be another game that GC will control from start to finish.
  6. Korensky Simpson has been at Gibson Co. since last year. I think he transferred in right after the Christmas break.
  7. Since Liberty has been in existence, I can't remember many of the better players that have come through Liberty that play both basketball and football. With that being said, Liberty should be at nearly full strength. This will be a good test to show both teams where they're at at this point. Liberty went 29-7 last year and only lost 1 or 2 players to graduation. This team took Joe Jackson and White Station, eventual AAA state champs, down to the wire in substate last year and came up short 58-55. I honestly think Liberty will win this game, but it should be close.
  8. Liberty's best players are Tarius Johnson and Kendal Anthony. Don't underestimate Liberty. They're extremely talented and extremely quick. Kerry Hammonds is the good player from Siegel. I imagine him and Tarius will do some battling.
  9. Gibson Co. defeated Dresden tonight 77-27. The score was 33-2 at the end of the first quarter. I'm pretty sure that everyone on the GC roster scored tonight. Our press is a thing of beauty and caused turnovers one after another. Congrats! How did other 13AA teams do tonight?
  10. WOW! Awesome job to Forrest! Beth Hawn sounds like the real deal. I can't wait to see her play with UTM next year. Hopefully I'll get to check her out by seasons end. Once again, congrats to Forrest!
  11. I'm not one to jump up and go crazy when someone gets a dunk, but my mouth dropped when I saw that! I text my buddy and said there's a Spud Webb sighting in Troy at OCCHS, lol. Either GC boys are much improved than last year or JCM isn't as good as I thought they were. GC only lost in that boys game by 5 or 7 points. Watch out for Keneal Windom, #33, for JCM. He's the real deal and an under rated player in West TN that people don't talk about much. Good Luck to the Lady Falcons as well as the Falcons!
  12. bigster, if you go and check out your game with JCM tonight, imagine the PG on the boys basketball team taking off and dunking it! He wore a long sleeve under armour the other night. He's about 5'6! It was unreal!!! It happened Saturday at Obion Co. jamboree.
  13. My 2 cents.... TT is an awesome player as is Butler. At this point and time, Butler is clearly better. There's no doubt it that TT has unreal potential and could wind up being better than Butler. If you really think about it, this discussion is goes to show how great of talent we have here in West TN and that the level of competition around here is starting to pick up greatly. GC and Lake Co. need to be playing games during the season over the next few years! It could prepare them both for state tournament runs! GC never saw a team that was as athletic as Lake Co. last year and that's including the state tournaments and I'm sure Lake Co. never saw a press that is as effective as GC's press! I've given my props to both players. They represent their schools well and should have a great future in basketball! As for GC, we are playing Dresden tonight. A 14A team. Gibson Co. is also giving out their championship rings to the players! If no one has nothing to do tonight, come to Dyer!!!!!
  14. I'm on the bandwagon, but I believe they'll win OVC in 2012. After he get's his girls in there for atleast 1 year, they'll gell together a whole lot better than second year. In 2013, will be the 2nd round NCAA tournament, 2014 will be Final 4 I hope Paige is reading this, lol. Tell Coach McMillan, no pressure!
  15. Please tell me that you guys saw the 5'6 or 5'7 PG from JCM throw down the dunk against GC? I hate that we lost the game, however that dunk by the PG was one of the most amazing things I've seen in a long time. I'm not being sarcastic by saying 5'6 or 5'7 either. It was absolutely amazing! As for the Henry Co. and Dyer Co. game... it was a very close game and a good one as well. Henry Co. was playing without the football players which includes their best player, Shonte Sims. Number 32 for Henry Co. played extremely well and handles the ball well. The dunk by the boy from DC was nice as well. Big Ced looks to have lost some weight since last year and is a beast out there around the basket.
  16. Little Reedy probably had about 6 or 8 points. She did post up JCM's starting post player and went across the lane and hit a little hook shot. GC's going to be very solid over the next 4-6 years. Next year might be a little drop off compared to these past 2 years, but it'll pick right back up the year after that. Our press is just so intense and under control that it's going to give almost every team we play fits. We play Dresden tomorrow night @ Gibson Co. I'll post update on that game.
  17. Purple, I might take back my words. The possibility of GC going undefeated may be more likely than I thought. GC beat JCM 61-9 in two quarters of basketball last night. Yes, we did play Freshman and Sophomores and we played them quite a bit! We're just as deep as last year and the 2 players that are filling in for the 2 that graduated last year seemed to fit right into place out on the floor. I bet we had 4 or 5 different people in double figures last night in those 2 quarters. JCM wasn't that bad either. They were extremely athletic and quick, but our press wore them down 2 minutes into the game.
  18. I must give credit where credit is due! Congrats to Adamsville! I really thought the speed of Humboldt and the lay off of the Cardinals would effect this game quite a bit. It did not. Once again, congrats to Adamsville!!! I hope that the Josh Carroll boy brings home a Mr. Football trophy for himself as well! Good Luck to him as well as Adamsville throughout the rest of the playoffs!
  19. Gibson Co. plays JCM in both boys and girls. I expect GC to get up by 25 or so in the first with their press and then Coach Russell start working some subs in. We definately don't need to risk injury in a jamboree. As for the boys, JCM boys are extremely good. They were last year anyways and if I remember right, they return their key players. If GC can play with JCM, it'll look good on GC's part and hopefully kick off the new basketball season in a winning way!
  20. Ok...I was going to say that there was no way he was a Freshman. He still has a golden leg! His kickoffs were perfect for high school football. They were extremely high and pinned the Henry Co. returners around the 1 yard line every time.
  21. What grade is the Gallatin kicker!?!? I think I heard someone say he was a Freshman. That can't be true. He has a golden leg!
  22. LOL, I'd love for the Lady Pioneers to go undefeated this year! 70-0 in 2 years...how many other teams can say that, ya know? As for it happening, I'm not quite sure. However, stopping 3 D1 players on the same team, I'm not quite sure. Our 2 post players are the best duo of post players in West TN for sure. It's very hard to defend them both at the same time and that's evident in last years state tournament as Griffin had a double double in all 3 games and Reedy was in double figures in all 3 games. I'm going to make a bold prediction and I've said it on here before. I expect GC and Westview to play 5 times this year. Two times in the season, district and regional championship, and then the state championship. That'd be absolutely awesome!!!! As for un upgrade in our schedule, I don't think it's happening. I do know that Gibson Co. is playing in the Westview Thanksgiving tournament. Also, we're doing the Gibson Co. Christmas tournament once again and I believe there are 2 more teams from out of this area coming to play in it. Other than these 2 tournaments, our quality tournament to showcase talent will be in Murfreesboro.
  23. Gibson Co. has never been a "football school". However, this year, expectations were actually up quite a bit as we had all of our athletes back from last year including one, Sherrod Johnson, who has D1 interest from 3-4 different colleges (Memphis, MTSU, UNLV, Troy) as a DB. We did lose a big chunk of the OLine last year to graduation, however, with our new offense that we had put in this year, the OLine would be doing more pass blocking than actually being the stronger man and opening up holes for the RB. After the Humboldt game in week 0, in what was actually a very great game with GC losing 34-20, GC had several key injuries to several defensive players as well as some of our WR's who are much needed in the offense that we ran. We weren't a 0-10 team, however key injuries did put us there. However, I NEVER COMPLAINED ON HERE that GC had a much smaller enrollment as well as much smaller players compared to the teams we were playing such as Ripley, Crockett Co., Obion Co. etc... However, volsfan007, got on here week after week after week crying about how his little ole Greenfield school had to play against Union City, Humboldt, Huntingdon etc... and that they should be playing 2A football etc. Me as well as several others got tired of listening to it and let him know about it. Now, ole hufstedler, has come to defense of his boy volsfan007. I'm honestly not worried about this guy as he is most likely clueless about the game of football and has probably never played a down of real football in his life.
  24. The score does not indicate how close this game was. The score was 14-14 going into the fourth and the fourth quarter was all Gallatin. I really thought that Henry Co. should've passed the ball alot more than what they did. The last offensive TD that Gallatin scored was due to Henry Co. selling out on the run as Gallatin was starting to chip away at the clock and Henry Co. was going into desperation. Great game by both teams! Best of Luck to Gallatin next week. Good Luck to the Henry Co. Seniors. You were part of the turn around in Henry Co.'s football program.
  25. I can promise you that GC will not beat themselves. GC is too well coached and has enough good talent to not beat themselves. If a team beats GC this year, they'll definately have to earn it! I'm curious as to how deep we'll be on the bench this year and how well the other 2 in the starting 5 will do.
