  1. Guys, I know it's hard to imagine a team actually being better than Alcoa, but there IS a team in Tennessee that is a tad better than Alcoa! Randall Cobb is not as good as Barry Brunetti, SORRY! You guys haven't even seen MUS play this year and you still claim that Alcoa is better! THEY'RE NOT BETTER! I've seen both teams against their biggest team of the year. The Alcoa/Maryville game was exactly like the MUS/Christian Brothers game. Believe it or not. The Great American Sports Rivalry that was at the Alcoa/Maryville game was at the MUS/Christian Brothers game as well. You say that Alcoa has 2 DE's that are D1. MUS's hole defense looked capable of playing college football at some level. There's a reason why MUS is ranked #17 in the country and has already defeated 2 national powers in South Panola and Olive Branch out of Mississippi. Christian Brothers, I believe, could play with Alcoa for 3 quarters, Alcoa would pull away in the end (like the Maryville game). Christian Brothers RB is a highly touted RB and will play major D1 football. Brothers QB may be small, but he's extremely quick and through his passes right on the money almost every time. Going into the game, Christian Brothers had the best defense in Memphis and MUS had the best offense in Memphis. After that game, it looked as if MUS had the best defense and offense in Memphis. Memphisfootball, there's really no need to keep this argument going. I've seen both teams play this year and I've seen both teams play to their potential. I know football and I know a better team when I see it.
  2. I've seen Alcoa at it's best against Maryville. I've seen MUS play a not-so-good first half and a great second half against Christian Brothers. I've seen 'em both this year. There's no doubt about it that MUS is better than Alcoa. MUS is deeper, quicker and better overall than Alcoa. If Alcoa and MUS were to play, I'd predict MUS to win anywhere from 17-21 points. Picture Pat White (former West Virginia QB) playing QB at the high school level. That's what you have in the MUS QB, Barry Brunetti. You think Jaron Toney is great? MUS has 2 Jaron Toney's standing back there with Barry Brunetti on some plays. MUS is the best team in the state and Ensworth is second best in the state.
  3. I like watching Hammonds play. I could see him playing in the Sun Belt and doing well. I honestly don't see him playing in the SEC.
  4. According to the article he may not play Friday night. I really want to check out Ensworth before the season is over at full strength. I went and watched MUS this past week and want to compare the two by seasons end. If anyone knows if Darkwa will be ready by Friday night, please post it on here!
  5. Reasons Union City will go far this season: 1) well-coached - Coach Bowling is a great coach and is intense. Assistant coaches are good coaches as well and very knowledgable. 2) perfect players to run the veer - An all-state center to go along with a strong OLine and an awesome core of backs. Strong, quick, and smart!!!! 3) getting better by the week - since the loss to TCA, UC has won the last 4 games by an average of 36 points. The most impressive was the 42-14 over a very athletic Humboldt team. 4) the offense - Very few teams in the state run the veer offense. UC runs it to perfection and the QB is very smart in doing what he does. This offense is a nightmare to defend for some schools. With all this being said... I expect UC to atleast be playing in the state semi-finals.
  6. That's smart on the coaching staffs part. Everyone of the girls in the 2010 class are definately D1 material and will be the beginning of the McMillan era at UTM. I'm not really familiar with Beth Hawn of Forrest. Can someone from the area give a run down on her...points, rebounds, etc...
  7. Where is Gibson Co.? Do yall even have tvs or radios there? what could you possibly know about Siegel? Yes Siegel def. has a chance. Siegel is as talented as anybody this year plus oak Hill is down. Don't be surprised if this happens friends!! LOL, I know plenty about Siegel. I watched them play last season and just might watch them play this season as well. I know all about your star player in Kerry Hammonds. He's good, but not good enough to pull Siegel to a win over Oak Hill Academy, lol. Are ya'll playing their GREAT team or their GOOD team? You know, Oak Hill does carry around 2 different teams around the country. Liberty Tech played Oak Hill back in 2006 and lost by 21 to a "good" Oak Hill team. But people from Libery weren't on here claiming they'd beat Oak Hill and Liberty finished ranked like #18 in the nation that year. I heard this same ole story from the folks at Bearden last year claiming they could beat Oak Hill and they lost to a "down" Oak Hill team by 10. This year I guess the wand is handed over to Siegel. I'm not sure how good Oak Hill is this year, but Oak Hill will win this game either way.
  8. LOL, I'd take a Senior with experience over Sophomores with no experience. OH WAIT!!!!! All 3 of those girls have just as much "big time" experience as Molly has had. All 3 (TT, Swain, Haynes) have played in a state tournament and now have just as much "big time" experience as Molly has had. One of those 3 even won a state championship and got quality playing time on that state championship team. Honestly, if I were to pick 1 out of the 4 that have been mentioned, I'd take TT. She's the quickest and most athletic out of all of those and plays good defense as well. She'll get her points. Molly is a great player and will play college ball. I just think TT will wind up being the better overall player.
  9. Those were teams that I thought would make it to the state tournaments. Don't get me wrong, there are several other great teams in West TN. I'm going to change my pick in Single A. I'll take Bradford off of that list to make it to state and replace them with Middleton making it to the 'boro. Middleton is extremely athletic and well coached. They are exactly like Lake Co. except they don't have that star player like TT. They only lost one player off of last years team and really they were a better and quicker team without her on the floor. Greenfield is going to be good. I watched them play in team camp this summer at Gibson Co. I'm just not sure they'll be able to knock of Lake Co. If I were an opposing team to Greenfield, I really wouldn't want to play them in a win or go home game. I also saw Greenfield's middle school girls the other night at Gibson Co. They're well coached and have some bright talent coming up. In AA, I know all about Fussell and Obion Co. They return Fussell, Pate, and Macy Wright who are all 3 very good players. They lost a great player in Casey Eaves though. OC could upset some teams this year, but I believe Westview and GC will represent the west part of the state in AA in the 'boro. Fussell might be bringing home a Ms. Basketball trophy this year if she stays injury free. I'm not sure if Central is having a jamboree this year or not. I know for a fact that Gibson Co. isn't have a play day or jambo. Westview has a playday on November 7th I believe. I'm heading down to Millington Saturday to watch their playday. It'll be mostly inner-city Memphis schools and then schools around Millington. I plan on checking out the Westview playday on the 7th and going to check out the Dyersburg jambo that night.
  10. South Gibson's guard play will be right there with almost all of these teams except for Middleton. Taylor Moore, who saw alot of time last year at GC and would've started at GC this year, transferred to South Gibson. Watch out for Hannah Cook as well, she can shoot the lights out. The thing that will really hurt South Gibson this year the most is post play. From what I remember, I can't think of any outstanding post players that played for Medina MS last year or that were at GC last year. I forgot about Middleton. They do return alot. Jazzaine didn't do much for them really except dish the ball off. I honestly thought they were better and more dangerous without her on the floor last year. Middleton could replace Bradford in my picks to make it to the state tournaments this year.
  11. Teams that should represent the West at state: Single A Lake Co. - They lost Renita Kinney, however they return some great young talent in TT Flowers and Carnation Hart. I really think Lake Co. can win them a state championship in girls basketball within the next 3 years. They're going to be a force to be recogned with. Bradford - People look at Bradford as a team that lost alot of talent off of last years team, which is true. What people fail to see is the fact they still have alot of talent on that team. Molly Wallsmith will lead Bradford as Jackilann Street and Sarah Combs will do what they have to do. I expect Bradford to lose a couple during the regular season, however I believe Coach Eddings will have this team ready for a late post season run. Double A Westview - Westview returns practically everything from last years state semi-final team. Rechis, Swaim and Olds will lead Westview back to the state tournaments for another late post season run. Westview is well coached and has the one of the best 3 point shooters in the state in Amber Rechis. Westview is going to be a tough team for anybody to beat this year. Gibson Co. - Gibson Co. lost 2 starters off of last years team, however they return almost all of their scoring. GC will be led by Butler, Griffin, and Reedy and will look to make a back-to-back state championship run. GC will have to have players fill in the shoes of Jennings and Garner who graduated last year. I believe those 2 spots will determine whether GC will make it a back-to-back run. Triple A Jackson North Side - Jackson NS was a great team last year and will be a great team this year. They took Westview down to the wire in the region semi's last year. North Side has some very good talent on their team and will be led by a Junior in Jalita Fason and a Senior in Alex Hill. North Side moving to Triple A is probably the best thing to happen to their girls basketball program. Memphis Central - Memphis Central is coming into this season coming off of a 35-2 season last year with 1 of those losses being in the state championship by 1 point to Hillsboro. Memphis Central is very athletic and has size at all positions. If Memphis Central stays healthy this year, I really expect them to be back contending for another state championship.
  12. I believe MUS would beat Alcoa in the range of 14-21 points. Barry Brunetti is absolutely the real deal. The thing is, he was playing with a pulled groin muscle the other night and still nailing his passes right where they needed to be. Barry Brunetti is nothing other than another Pat White (former West Virginia QB) at the high school level. He's very impressive. There was some folks behind me that said Barry Brunetti will probably be the best QB to come out of the city in Memphis in about 20-25 years! Another thing that impressed me about MUS, they have NO players going both ways. To be that good and have no players at all going both ways is absolutely amazing. MUS's RB's will also both be two D1 football players as well. They were both quicker than Jaron Toney from Alcoa and they would lower their head and run over you if needed. MUS has already been featured on the high school showcase that ESPN does against South Panola where they won 21-19. Needless to say, Brunetti went off in that game as well.
  13. It appears that we agree on something for a change GCP! But don't get used to it! LOL C'mon now Stannnnn, lol!!! Hey, neither of our teams play each other now so we're good with each other, lol. We do need to meet up with each other sometime so we can put a face with each other. I was down at the MUS game last night and I heard quite a few folks behind me talking about JCS. They were talking about how their record was deceiving of their play. Speaking of MUS...man, they're unbelievable. Check out the DII thread where I posted on that game and look how everything happened it that game. They're amazing to watch!!!!!
  14. I think North Side's girls basketball is better off in AAA than in AA. As for North Side's boys, they're better off in AA than in AAA, unfortunately.
  15. There were so many people bashing Coach Scott on here earlier this year. Now they are in conention for a playoff spot and those bashers are nowhere to be seen on the boards. Trenton comes to GC this Thursday night!
  16. For MUS to be such a small team, they're very impressive. Their defensive backs are head hunters and nearly took a couple heads off against Christian Brothers last night. MUS won the game last night 38-14 and were trailing 14-10 at the half. MUS scored 28 points in 5 minutes in the start of the 3rd quarter. It was absolutely unbelievable. Christian Brothers is no slouch either. They have several D1 athletes on their team as well. MUS's QB is headed to West Virginia next year and is as good as advertised. His name is Barry Brunetti, so watch for that name at West Virginia in a couple of years!
  17. hahahahaha @ teams moving their games to Thursday so people can go watch this game. LOL, that's one of the better laughs I've had in awhile. Well, I expect this game to be close for awhile and Milan will pull it out in the end. I do think that Milan's offense and defense are both better than that of Crockett's. Milan's defensive speed will be able to contain those backs from Crockett. I predict Milan to win by the score of....... 35-14.
  18. WRONG!!!! I went and watched MUS out of Memphis last night. They're currently ranked #17 in the nation and have a QB headed to West Virginia next year. Their RB's are EXTREMELY quick and their WR's make some unbelievable catches. Their players aren't that big, but all of them are quick. MUS also has no players going both ways which is amazing for a team that good. MUS reminds me of Maryville, except alot better.
  19. Me and a couple of buddies made the trip down to MUS tonight. The first half was exciting to watch. MUS got up 10-0 on Christian Brothers soon to see Christian Brothers go up 14-10 heading into the half. MUS came out looking like a different team in the second half. Number 32 for MUS came up with 2 huge interceptions which got things rolling for MUS in the second half. Christian Brothers had no answer for the passing attack of MUS all night. Brunetti is as good as advertised and looked to be limping alot tonight which limited his running ability. Congrats to MUS and good luck on your run to another state championship!
  20. It won't be any rougher than having to play against Westview, GC, or Obion Co. in regionals.
  21. I'm going to give my honest unbiased opinion on this. Me and a couple of my buddies talked on both of these subjects tonight on our way down to watch MUS and Christian Brothers play. First off..... by the time South Gibson gets all 4 grade levels into the high school (right now it's just Freshman and Sophomores), GC will most likely drop to Single A in basketball. If GC drops down to Single A, we could be seeing a Jackson Co. type of program here in West TN. GC's 4 feeder schools right now are loaded with talent and we look to have a very solid group of players for quite awhile. If GC does drop to Single A, I see them being in 14A and I see Greenfield going into the District with Gleason, McKenzie, Dresden etc... Second off..... I honestly see South Gibson being very good in girls basketball by the time they get all 4 grade levels into the school system. This coming year, their main player will be Taylor Moore. She's a Sophomore right now at South Gibson. She got alot of quality playing time last year as a Freshman and saw time in the state tournaments as well with Gibson Co. Hannah Cook is another name to watch out for at South Gibson this coming year. Hannah can shoot the ball extremely well. My only worry about South Gibson is their post play. I'm not exactly sure what post players they have for them right now, but normally to compete in Single A around here you don't exactly have to have a dominant post player. I think South Gibson will be ok this year and they will win some ball games. By the time South Gibson get's all 4 grade levels into the school, I expect them to be a AA program.
  22. That may be true. There is always transfers going around Memphis.
  23. If you think chop blocking is not dirty, you're an absolute idiot! Chop blocking is a very dirty aspect of the game and it seems as if you're uninformed on the game of football. (talking to the guy that said chop blocking isn't dirty) You must've been the one that chop blocked Christian Coleman and now on here defending yourself. Christian Coleman has a bright future ahead of him in football, in high school and college. Luckily all he got was a hairline fracture, although sometimes a hair line fracture can be worse than what it really sounds. I hope Christian recovers extremely quick and gets back on the field in time to play in that state championship game against Alcoa!!!!!!!
  24. Gibson Co. has already lost a couple of girls to South Gibson. Taylor Moore, who got quality playing time last year as a Freshman, transferred to South Gibson as did 1 or 2 other Freshman from Medina. However, the 6th-8th grade girls that I was talking about being very good, are in GC's feeder schools. (Yorkville, Spring Hill, Rutherford, Dyer) All 4 of those schools have players that are extremely talented for their age, predominately the 6th-7th graders. There's not just 1 stud player out of those 4 schools. They're all evenly balanced in talent and could be the future of how GC girls basketball turns out after losing the Medina players. Oh ya, this years Freshman class is loaded as well! I'm being dead serious....Lake Co. and Gibson Co. could make for some classic battles over the next couple of years!
