  1. Very few in Northeast Tennessee gave Hampton any love this year. Especially the ones that post on CoachT, so you probably wont get much of a response from their true supporters. So they realize no one is giving them a chance against Jackson Co. But one thing I'll say about Hampton, they do not care what anyone thinks and they dont back down from a challenge. They've got my love and I wish them the best. Win or lose, they deserve to be there.
  2. Great win for the Cyclones. They have had to run the gauntlet the last few days. After tomorrow it will 5 games in 6 days. Elizabethtons size should allow them to take care of South Greene. However, South Greene will be fresh, but I think a tired Elizabethton team is still better than South Greene this year.
  3. You can not judge anything by those summer league games. It is a running clock, no one is in a rythem, and the officiating does not exist. So please dont compare anything to those summer league games. Example, Crockett beat Elizabethton in a summer league game, and well Crockett didn't fair to well the other night agianst the Cyclones. If Elizabethton playes that way all season, no one will beat them. My God they shot 6 for 7 from the three in the first half. Unaka would have to pocess something special to be ranked ahead of E-town this year. Unaka is a great program but I'm sorry they are not as good as Elizabethton this year.
  4. District 1 AAA may not be the best, but inside the Conference it will be exciting. I believe there is a lot of parity and 4 losses could win it. According to the coaches poll taken at the jamboree Tn. High was picked to win it, Boone, South, Crockett and Science Hill tied for 4, Central, D.B., Volunteer, and East. This means nothing. It is a very balanced league. Compared to District 2, West and Greeneville are probably better than anyone in District 1 but it is not as large of a gap as last season. District 1 is getting better.
  5. Amen. Things are not the same in the counties. Take Washington County. Anyone that knows anything about Boone and Crockett know that those two schools are not equal. Boone has a nicer school and nicer facilities. Why?? Simple, the demographic difference between the two schools are amazing. Almost 50% of all Crockett students come from economically disadvantaged households, 75% free or reduced lunch. It all goes back to the golden rule; "those with the gold make the rules." If you are in a poor area no one will help you. Boone and South have big $$$$$ people actively involved in their schools and athletic programs. That is a huge advantage. Trust me it does. Kids in poor areas unfortunately have to work to support their families. They cant just play a sport or be involved in the band. They have to pay bills, they dont have a mom or dad to buy them a cheap car or pay their insurance. Also, chances are if an area has low demographics, there is not a mom and dad at home. That changes everything. The divorce rate in these areas are shocking. That plays a huge role in the success of a school system. The worst thing that ever happened was when Sullivan County and Washington County consolodated and ended the days of the small high schools. It killed communities and childrens opportunities. It was all for the almighty dollar. It always seems that the one thing that gets lost in the sauce in these issues are the most important thing.....the children. It is proven smaller class sizes mean better results. Smaller schools give more children the opportunity to participate in sports and sctivities. But those days of caring abouth the kids are gone. So whatever Kingsport does it will be to benefit a few.
  6. Crockett v. Happy Valley Elizabethton v. Sullivan East University School v. Cherokee Unicoi County v. Hampton I think. I do know that those are the teams playing.
  7. Coachh17's greatness is without bounds. He would have been a great fit for the Lady Cyclones. I recall his varsity coaching debut in 2003 winning by 33. I'm still trying to recover from that crushing defeat. Luckily for the rest of the state that was his only game at the helm. Otherwise it would have been a golden ball in the trophy case at EHS. Hope all is well with you. Good luck with your career.
  8. For the second year in a row all three AAA schools in Washington County (Science Hill, Daniel Boone, and David Crockett) will represent region 1 at the state this year. Last year all three were in the top ten. This year will be the same with one of them bringing home the state championship.
  9. Great Site and very Informative. I've leaned on this site all season to keep up with everybody. One question though. I dont fully understand the team ranking system. For example, Dobyns-Bennett is ranked 11 spots ahead of David Crockett. Crockett has beaten DB in every race but one this season including Thursday's regional meet. Also, Crockett has 4 runners in the 16's and DB has 2. So how can they be rank so much higher than Crockett.
  10. The Times-News and the Johnson City Press have the same owners. Since that happened things went down hill fast. Both papers have limited staff writers all to save a buck. The Press is in love with Science Hill so they dominate the coverage, and I dont have a problem with that. The Hill is in JC. The Bristol Herald Courier is all about SW VA. So you really only have one paper (JC Press) that concentrates on NE TN schools. I'm like most of you guys, I think it is a shame that our programs do not get more coverage than they do. Tricitiessports.com is the way to go if you want good coverage.

Yes. I know you all in Mid-Tenn don't believe but we play ball in Region 1 too. We work just as hard as you all do and play the best we can. We are proud of our teams and support each and every one of them.
  12. Things have gotten rather lean in Jonesborough the last few seasons. But I remember 2000, 2001, 2002 Crockett won this game. Boone knows it as well as Crockett does, they are both rural schools that were consolodated out of communities hated eachother and were thrown into new schools and told to get along. It never happened nor will it ever happen. Neither school will be consistant because neither school should have ever been created. The communitites within each district hate eachother and it is very difficult to develop any type unity. It is ashame that for many of these children, the highlight of their playing career is when their Lamar team beat Jonesborough, or Boones Creek beat Gray. Things are worse at Crockett however. Mainly because of the socio-economic factors. The Boone area is a wealthy area with many $$$$ people that want to see them succeed. Crockett has none of that. The south end of Washington County is very poor. Just drive around the each school district and you will see what I mean. There is a true double standard in this county between Boone and Crockett. It is the haves versus the have nots. I have no dog in this hut either. I am transplanted here in the Crockett area. It is night and day from the Crockett school district to the Boone school district. Anyway, the table will once again lean the other way in the near future. Boone may have theirs this year but Crockett will rise again.
  13. I agree. Elizabethton (in football)gets my vote for getting the most with what they have. They have went against schools nearly twice their size for years and have enjoyed a great deal of success. However, titles is what everyone wants. I bet no one at Elizabethton cares that last years Cross Country championship was in AA/A. It was a state championship and thats what matters. It is a heck of a lot more enjoyable to compete when things are on a level playing field. Now Elizabethton football is usually one of the best in the area (historically speaking) but how much better would they be down the playoff road if they were playing other 6 or 7 hundred student schools? I respect E'town football but think it is a mistake to play up.
  14. Do you think that it is a bad idea for E-Town to be playing up in classification? I know it hurts Erwin and Mountain City. It just makes sense for them to play teams that are close to their size. At least they do play AA in everything else and they are among the best teams at that level. There is no shame in saying football should drop down in classification. It doesn't make them less of a program. I just dont see the logic in playing up like Elizabethton, Mountain City, Erwin, North, and Greeneville all do. If travel is the problem, then throw Happy Valley in the mix and you have yourself a conference that has comparable student populations. Just a thought.
  15. Todd Smalling is head and shoulders above the rest of the field. The State meet will be for second place.
  16. I said they could beat them. I didn't say they will. Boone has the potential to beat South, but potential isn't worth anything unless you execute. South and Mo. West will probably play in the Quarterfinals. The point is these two regions top to bottom are average this year. However, I believe top to bottom year in and year out the Five Rivers Conference is a better conference. Maroonandgray As for Sevier County in 1995, I really dont consider them to be in Northeast Tennessee. They were a product of being in a messed up region based on re-classification.
  17. About three weeks ago I thought the 5 Rivers was way down compared to the Mountain Lakes. Now, I've changed my mind. I think they both are down. M. West is the best of the two conferences but that isn't a surprise. South is #1 in the Mountain Lakes and I think West, East, and Boone could all beat them. The fact of the matter is Northeast TN isn't a good football area. With the exception of the Jeff. Co. 1987 team, no one has won a State Championship from these regions (East of Knoxville) in any classification. We have good players scattered out among the teams but not like the major metro areas. Lets just enjoy what we have and see how far we can go.
  18. THS will not overlook East for sure. East doesn't have the same firepower they had last year, but THS doesn't either. I really think THS has a couple more athletes that can make plays than East and that will be the difference maker. What is your predictions?
  19. I was very fortunate to have known Cortney. She was an angel. Our school is shocked and numb from this tragedy. She was one of the best students I have seen walk the hallways of Crockett. She brought happiness into everyones lives and went out of her way to be positive all the time. May GOD comfort her family and help us to continue the love she showed everyday toward other people. She will be truly missed.
  20. Is this the year THS takes one on the chin to Sullivan East? I know its two weeks away but its something to think about. No THS team wants to be the first to be defeated (on the scoreboard) by the Patriots. However, the stars may be in line for a historic first for Sullivan East. *East is given credit for a win over THS when the Vikings had to forfeit games for playing an ineligible player in the late 90's.
  21. Are you talking about girls CC? If you think DB is better than Science Hill in boys then you are sadly mistaken. DB may be fourth or fifth in the district behind SHHS, Daniel Boone, David Crockett, and maybe South.
  22. What I like about this match-up is that no one is going to give North Greene a chance. Cloudland should win this game but I really think N. Greene is going to make it a game. North Greene, for the first time, is going to play this game with an undefeated record. They have tasted success and I think they like it. Even if it was against some average teams, they did what they were suppose to do. Like I said, Cloudland will probably win, but I believe N. Greene will gain some well deserved respect after this game.
