  1. While i have no dog in this fight, there are a few points that come to mind as i read this thread. 1. While TCA has stepped up and played a pretty tough non region schedule(and played well) , their schedule does not match up with the teams that lexington has played. 2. I am not down on 1A ball, there are great players that come through 1A schools (patrick willis for example) but as you go up in class it is a numbers game. With a larger pool of students to draw from you are more likely to get more great athletes on the same team. the biggest difference in 1A and 3A is depth. 3. Lexington was terrible last year, regardless of their class. They are much improved this year. So the argument that TCA beat them last year is irrelevant to this discussion. and finally... 4. You don't seriously think that USJ would beat Liberty, Hardin Co., Henry Co., and Maryville ?????
  2. they way i read it, if a district has at least three 1A teams then one of those would be an automatic qualifier regardless of whether they finished 1 or 2 in the district.
  3. the coaches from the region select the all region players. Not sure how they will do it in this region but what i have seen in other regions is that they select a region mvp, an offensive and defensive mvp, and then 1st, 2nd, and honorable mention at the various positions. In general to reward more kids, if a player is one of the mvps then he would not be listed as 1st team etc. that way if you have several deserving players at the same position in a region they can all be rewarded.
  4. i have not had a chance to see middleton play this year except in the jamboree, but from looking at the results of their games, so far the thing that stands out to me is that this year they are SCORING POINTS. all of last season they only scored 83 points. In 3 games this season they have already scored 95. I believe that coach murphy and the staff have things headed in the right direction. People in middleton are actually excited about football!!! I don't know what the outcome will be tonight, but i am pulling for the orange and black tigers.
  5. Josh Pirtle is a senior this year and yes, he is an impressive athlete
  6. the ball would be downed where the kicking team took possession of it. If it is caught in flight, then that is possession.
  7. this question was answered by the previous post. QUOTE (o21putt)if team A or K catches the ball at the three that would be where the kick ends. K is not allowed to advance the ball into the end zone. K must control the ball at the 3 yard line for the ball to be placed at the 3. the ball is placed at the 3
  8. even on offense you could play with only 10 as long as at least 7 of them were on the LOS.
  9. Humboldt has played a tough schedule to open the season and has yet to find the win column. Lexington has looked impressive in their first two ball games. They are definitely much improved over last year. I think this will be a good game but at the end Humboldt will still be looking for that first win. Lexington 28 Humboldt 20
  10. i wouldn't read "recruiting" into his post, more like a system that develops good football players.
  11. if there is a disparity between the team speed of Stratford and DL, then DL will more than make up for it with their discipline on defense. Also the lipscomb offense is a machine to beat them you will have to score every time you have the ball.
  12. the reason the refs didn't show up is that the game was originally scheduled for Saturday. It was then moved to friday, but someone forgot to inform the officials. So both teams and the crowd showed up, but no officials = no game.
  13. i have a question concerning the correct way to record individual stats on a play where there was a penalty. for example: on 1st and 10 a running back gains 25 yards, but another offensive player is flagged for holding behind the play 18 yards from the LOS. the penalty is marked off 10 yards from the spot of the foul and the down is replayed. it is now 1st and 2. Statistically, how would that play be recorded? Does the rusher get 1 carry and 25 yards and the team get a penalty for -10 yards. or Does the rusher get credit for the net result : 1 carry for 8 yards. or Rusher gets no credit since the down is being replayed. What is the correct way to record this type of play?????
  14. there may be other problems like this with this idea, but this is the big one that i noticed. it is over 200 miles from somerville to portland and springfield. and you have them in the same region.
  15. jake mckinnie played quarterback at chester county high school in henderson, TN he originally went to Lambuth University and later transferred to UT
  16. i was at this game. And while i dont have the exact stats, i would say that this is a typo. It was more like 55 yards rushing for fayette ware.
  17. yes this system was in place BEFORE schedules were made. it had to be because region games are scheduled first and then each school fills in its own non region schedule. When these schools made their schedules they knew the rules they were playing by
  18. Bolivar's O-line dominated on offense, and they had too much speed on defense. Once GC got behind and went to the spread it was over, as they just could not block bolvar's fast DT's and DE' s I think they sacked wallace 6 or 7 times.
  19. the school at FW is LOADED with athletes and it always has been, it is not really that surprising that only one b-ball player plays football.
  20. if i am not mistaken, coach thompson was actually ejected from a game earlier this year for coming out onto the field and taunting the opposite sideline after a fumble return for a touchdown. there is never a dull moment on the FW sideline
  21. i posted this in the other thread about this game, but that thread got closed so i will post it again here: it seems to me that fayette ware is having their typical late season fade. the last few years they have come out of the gate hot and cooled off as the weather did. luckily for them they had bolivar and jss on the schedule early this year and beat them while they were still hot. then late in the year they lost to trezvant, barely beat a pitiful lexington team, got steamrolled by melrose, and lost convincingly to a mcnairy team that both bolivar and jss beat. i would not be surprised to see cheatham take this one too.

  23. Ricky Holloway. he wears number 54. he also plays guard on offense
  24. sure officials are going to blow calls, and make some judgment calls that we don't agree with, but what drives me crazy is when they don't know the rules and make a bad call or are completely out of position and make a call that there is no way they could see. a few examples: 1. after a missed field goal attempt the ball was spotted at the spot of the kick. (NFL rule) not the 20 (NFHS Rule - scrimmage kick that enters the end zone is a touchback) 2. A wide receiver who was on the line was called for illegal motion and the play was allowed to continue. IF he is ON the line and moves prior to the snap it is a dead ball. 3. receiver is clearly off the ball, but official makes no hand signal. pass is completed 25 yards downfield to the tight end. official on the other side of the field throws a flag when the TE comes off the ball because he thinks he is ineligible due to no hand signal from the sideline official. penalty is illegal touch by an ineligible receiver. 5 yards from previous spot and loss of down. 4. receiver makes a diving catch in the back corner of the end zone. official near the goal line makes no call. official at the 25 yard line on the opposite side of the field makes the incomplete pass signal. There is no way he could have seen something the the official that was right there could not see. 3 out of these 4 examples were the SAME CREW of officials. so there are good crews and bad crews, and when a good crew does their job well they don't get the credit they deserve because if they are doing their job right then you really don't notice them.
  25. unless you are talking about 2A and then it is top 3 in each region with 5 wild card teams.
