  1. I can't believe that I even saw this topic. My only question is ..."WHY???""" For the past three or four years Powell's game was based on Erin Ogan. She was a dominant and awesome player and the coach did the best thing that he could do.....built his offense around her!!!!! And you know what....it worked!!! Ogan has now moved on to college and Powell seems to be lacking a big post player inside. That's OK....you guys have some quick guards and need to use that to your advantage. Not going to go any further than that. Ya'll got a good coach and they will do a good job of preparing them for the next game. By the way, my beloved Central Lady Bobcats gave ya'll a pretty good game the other night. We lost, but it was great game by both teams!!!
  2. The games start on Monday the 26th Knoxville Central vs. Cleveland @ 4:30 (loser plays in first game next day, winner plays in game 3 the next day) Bearden vs. Anderson County @ 6:00 (same as above) Farragut vs. McMinn Central @ 7:30 (Loser plays in game 2 the next day, winner plays in game 4) Fulton vs. Webb @ 9:00 (same as above)
  3. OR Nole....that was the whole reason I started this thread.......PERCEPTION. All it takes is for one person to say it, one person to believe it, then it becomes a rumor, then it becomes a fact. If WBIR would have used a video clip of any other kid in this area, I would have the same attitude....it seems to imply that a specific player / team uses steroids. I don't care if it's Central, Maryville, Alcoa, Fulton, Austin East, Catholic, Farragut, Oak Ridge or any other team that I didn't name. These teams have been the most dominant in the Knoxville area the past few years, and the implication that their success is related to steroids can be destructive to ALL athletic programs for that school, as well as the general student population. But if WBIR used clips from a team in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, then I wouldn't have a problem. WHY??? Because I probably wouldn't recognize the uniforms the other teams were wearing, the stadium they were playing in, etc, etc. The media (TV & print) has a responsibility to report the news - and I definitely appreciate & understand that. WBIR brought up a good subject that needs to be investigated and explored further. Steroids are a big mistake for any athlete at any level, and unfortunately, they are starting to infiltrate the high school teams....if they haven't already. But shouldn't that be something that the TSSAA and county school board investigate???? If it is discovered that a certain school is using performance enhancing drugs, then the media would have more "meat" to their story instead of making general assumptions. I understand that mistakes can happen, especially during a live broadcast of any show / newscast, etc. But when an error occurs (intentional or not) I feel an apology should be made. In this case, WBIR's apology should be made on air. Also, since WBIR is the sponsor of the "Prep Xtra" section of the Friday & Saturday's newspaper - I feel that the apology should be in writing as well.
  4. Hey buddy....we've always got the TN / KY All-Star Game!!!!! It's been a while since the TN sqaud has beat the Ky hillbillies!!!!
  5. Or if they chose to show a player, couldn't they have at least shown a player not from this state. Maybe some kid from Manitoba Canada???
  6. During Thursday nights sports broadcast, the Knoxville NBC affiliate (WBIR) was previewing Friday night's games. One in particular, Knoxville Central vs. Maryville. They showed a clip of one of Central's players running for a 50 yard touchdown. While they were showing the highlight of that play, they posed the question..."Do High School Players use steroids?" The player they were showing during the video clip was #40 fullback Kevind Dyer. He is a big guy...about 6 ft and around 230. To me, and several others that I spoke with at the game tonight, that was wrong on the part of WBIR and is borderline slander. I don't know Mr. Dyer personally, but I do know that the Central program will not tolerate the use any illegal or performance enhancing drugs. I think WBIR at least owes a public apology for making assumptions and false accusations. I'm very interested in hearing what everybody else thinks about this.
  7. I've been out of town most of the week, and I wasn't able to access Coach T. But my wife has kept all the newspapers and recorded the 11pm sports news while I was away. I didn't want to miss anything from the game with the Maryville Rebels. What I saw on WBIR, NBC Channel 10 in Knoxville just gives support to the title of this thread. Thursday night, they showed a clip of #40 Kevin Dyer on his 50+ yard TD against Red Bank, then, during the highlight of his run, they asked the quesion "Do high school players use steroids?" To me, that is a smack in the face of Kevin Dyer, his family and the Central program. I don't know Mr. Dyer personally, but I can assure you that the CHS staff would not tolerate the use of ANY illegal substance. WBIR should be ashamed of themselves and issue a public apology to the Dyer family and the Central program.
  8. Once again, the Rebs got the best of the Cats. And as always, I hate it......but I want to say congrats to the Maryville players and coaches and wish them the best the rest of the way. Hopefully the closest competition that you guys have all year is the regular season game and tonights game. For those of you who think that Helton wasn't injured - guess again. The kid was banged up in last week's Red Bank game. I don't know the extent of his injuries because the Central camp did a good job of keeping it quite ( ), but he did play hurt and wouldn't have missed this game even if he was in a wheelchair. I hate to see this group of kids go without a "W" against Maryville, but once again, I wish the Rebels the best of luck next week and hopefully the week after that.
  9. Now that has to be one of the dumbest posts I think I have EVER read
  10. Some QB's will wear a knee brace on their lead leg. In other words, for a right hand QB, he will wear a knee brace on his left leg. This helps prevent some types of knee injuries that can occur from getting hit while attempting a pass.....such as what happend to Rothlisberger of the Steelers.
  11. Yellow Dog, You chastised a poster for not giving his source in regards to the TSSAA being one of the top 5 profitable state athletic associations. BUT, you state that Ronnie Carter's salary IS online. Why don't YOU post that source!!!! Sounds like a double standard to me.
  12. Medman...what's up???? You are usually on top of all the Bobcats opponents!!!! Honestly....this game scares me. Best I remember, the Red Bank game last year was a frustrating one for the Cats. Penalites, weather and sloppy field conditions. The Cats came out with a win, but I don't know about this year. Should be a good game. Overall, CHS has better stats than the Lions, but none of that really matters once the clock hits 7pm November 11th.
  13. CHS Baseball 09....leave it to you to start the next thread. Not bad mouthing you, but you are definitely on top of it!!!!! Now, I've got a simple question..... Has any coach ever chartered a bus to take his team from Red Bank's visiting team locker room to the playing field. Seriously, it seems like it's a 3 mile walk. Even Knox West's visiting locker room is closer......and we ain't even going to talk about what happened there several years ago.
  14. Hey Rhea Co. Thanks for the great post. It was a great game and I would like to commend Rhea Co. for bringing the fans and the noise. Man, you guys were loud!!!!! When we play Maryville, the stands are always packed and loud. Last night's game wasn't a sell-out by any means, but you guys definitely had the spirit. Good luck to you guys next year, ya'll definitely have some talent. As far as the refs missing calls....I had somebody tell me that if an official threw a flag every time there was a penalty, then the average high school game would take at least 6 hours.
  15. Medman, Bell County's record was 8-2. The two teams that beat them, us and Henry Clay, finished their seasons at 9-1. http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kyfb5?id=19651
  16. Don't you just love rumors?!?!?!?! I, too, have heard some of them....but not with Watts. Instead, I heard that Courtney quit. What I have heard is that there was a meeting after the team arrived back at the school. Apparently, there was some confrontation between Courtney and Coach Stephens during the game. This carried over to the locker room meeting and Courtney quit. Take it for what it's worth, but that's what I heard. I agree with everybody else that emotions can run high when you are a teenager, and I hope none of this is true. Regardless of their record, I think Powell can be a good team and can wreak havoc in the play-offs....but they have to have confidence in themselves, their teammates and their coaches. They won't accomplish anything if they are a divided team.
  17. Baseball 09.....I wasn't on the sidelines....haven't been for years, but even the Powell fans sitting near me could see the obvious holding on OJ......especially where Powell's QB got that pass completion to the 3 yard line. Technically, a ref can throw a flag on every play - and Central had one of those last year in the game against Carter. Best I remember, something like 30 flags for over 300 yards combined for both teams.
  18. I have no IDEA where they got these refs, but it was obvious to me that the Powell lineman were holding on almost every play. I'm not whining, but when the ref is looking right at the hold and doesn't throw the flag.....that's not right!!! I just wish the game would have been called a little bit more even.
  19. Medman, you are usually right on with info regarding the CHS program.....but the South Doyle game was Longworth's 3rd game back. He returned to action against Bearden.
  20. Hate it for the kids. But I'm not surprised by anything the T$$AA does anymore.
  21. That's a pretty neat site. How they came up with the info I don't really know. When you are at the site, punch in games that you have already played and see how "accurate" they are. I know one thing, my beloved Central Bobcats play the Maryville Rebels next week and it doesn't look to good for us.
  22. Sorry Dawg....won't happen. The cat's need to cut down on their errors / penalties also, but I think we got you in this one.
  23. Bulldog30....why in the world did you bring the post up? This post is almost a year old!!!!! I'm seriously concerned that you have WAAAAAY to much time on your hands. By the way.....here's the most recent thread on the 2005 kickers: http://boards.coacht.com/index.php?showtopic=111441
  24. Who said this Quote? It would be a great thing to put in a locker room, but I would like to give credit to the person who said it.
  25. Hey "Ballgame"...... I'm a Knox Central fan and we'll be seeing you guys in about a month, but I just wanted to commend you on a great post. South-Doyle has definitely had some lean years in the past, but in this day and age, especially when kids have so many other options besides sports and school activities, it's good to see that the student body continues to support the athletic programs.....win OR lose.
