  1. amen. with our horrid turnover ratio, its not surprise AT ALL that we haven't had a better season. GEN Neyland's First Maxim: 1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
  2. agree with you JC4, gut has all the support he could ask for throughout the county.
  3. i agree that gut can get us back to the winning ways of the past. however, without going into the unnecessary specifics, he needs to mature a bit before that can happen. go pats
  4. its good to be back... 1. mcfall needs to be in the RB position in my opinion. he is not a great decision maker and his athleticism will be better exploited there. if he does stay at qb then we need to run the option a whole heck of a lot more so he can make plays. 2. play calling still hampers the pats. agree with jc4, why don't we run the plays that work more than once a game? 3. it was a tough loss, but it all starts in earnest this friday when we open up region play. 4. congrats to DZ on bama win. 5. not so sure i made the right decision on which game to attend on friday night. heard i missed a good one in alcoa v maryville... and the drive would have been much shorter
  5. thats what great teams go guys, they find a way to win; overcoming their own mistakes sometimes.
  6. read my entire post, and the one i was responding to. i was only saying that playing multiple positions should not give you an upper hand. i know that a WR is considered a back.
  7. this would give credance to the Phillips argument. but in my opinion the award goes to the best back (i.e. single position). its not an award for best athlete or Mr. Multi-Purpose.... though one of those two would be good categories for the Mr. Football to expand.
  8. If I am not mistaken, the Mr Football voting deadline was Oct 31. That being said, the "who's still playing" argument is irrelevant. Even if it were Nov. 15, Farragut was still in the mix. Any press member shed light on that date?
  9. the guy with the extra gear that would have taken it to the house blew his chance (make that chances--> 4). coker can flat out go but he is wasting his talent making immature idiotic mistakes, and it will probably cost him a shot at playing on Sundays.
  10. i wasnt comparing stewart to sterling in respect to their games. i was just discussing the fact that often times big time h.s. backs dont fit in as perfectly in college, and the fact that they do not become superstars does not make their college careers a disappointment. my point with stewart was that he played behind some great backs (no fault of his own) and made a great switch to a non-glamour position. and he will probably get a shot with the NFL due to his willingness to do so. i agree with you that sterling will not be able to make that tb-fb transition, and that he lacks the "extra gear" speed that you USUALLY find with a back his size on the big time stage. i know, i spent 4 years on the bay back when navy and army were both horrible. in most every other sport it is a see-saw battle from year to year. but PJ has separated the football programs.
  11. great point. i'm not a maryville guy, but i respect the heck out of the program. i made it to 1 state title game at Jeff Co in my career (when TRUE privates still played against publics-- we played Brentwood Academy the last year that rule was in place)and i remember all the hard work (and a little luck) that was involved in making it. to make it there year after year and be fortunate enough to win is a testament to the players, coaches, and their hard work (maryville doesnt seem to need so much luck though).
  12. any official visits? HTV: go navy, beat army 38-3
  13. thanks for the info! wow, how many awards do we give out now??
  14. 4A i knew that there were going to be a lot of disappointed people, no matter who won. after watching friday nights maryville/SS game, i told my friend who i was with, one of those kids is going to get shafted on the mr. football award on momday, regardless of who wins it. (i stated way back when that phillips would be hurt greatly by the fact that he was from upper ET-- but i am not going to get into a demographics arguement, as it will go nowhere fast). however i CANNOT argue with giving the award to burnette. these kids are both the real deal, and both appear to be great guys from an outsiders prospective. 5A sterling was one of the best HS backs i have seen in a LONG time and i am looking forward to seeing Wilkes this weekend to make a comparison of my own. one thing that must be noted, a WR will almost never have stats that rival a RB's, they just dont get enough touches. that being said, sterling's stats don't lie, he put up some of the biggest numbers in the history of the state, and did not play too many games where his duties were needed the entire game (not sure about wilkes, someone with that info?)... i am not saying sterling should have won, but his stats count for something-- very few voters would have the opportunity to see all the candidates and stats play a huge role in their decisions i'm guessing. i also like part of ktownman's argument, sterling was a finalist last year and still. somehow, made vast improvements on his game and stats. i cannot speak intelligently about wilkes' stats last year, but i know he was not a finalist and did not make the improvement in stats from what i understand. congrats to the winners as well as the finalists. just being a finalist is an honor in itself. sidenote: "to the winners go the spoils" comment is completely off base. if i am not mistaken, voting ended on oct. 31, which would only include the regular season.
  15. how many kids will we be missing in winter/spring workouts due to other sports? i'm not as familiar with the other sports as i used to be.
  16. Any word on the winners as of yet? banquet is scheduled for 1 EST, vice 12 EST as was previously reported by CoachT.
  17. please let this be sarcasm, please please please
  18. thanks!! its pretty clear when slowed down
  19. hey topgun!! i saw the 2nd onsides kick replayed from a knox area tv station (was told i cant say which one cause my buddy prob shouldnt have had me there in their spaces letting me view the replay on their editing equip-- not gonna throw him under a bus) but any who... it was a fumble bottom line, but i saw it in slow motion over multiple replays. i wasnt at the game so who knows who won the officiating battle. but from what ive heard it was HORRIBLE BOTH WAYS. you are right the kids deserve better.... to make it that far and have bad officiating is sick.
  20. i can live with that /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> .... gl smyrna
  21. let me reinterate that i am neither a SS or Maryville fan, though i did cheer for Maryville last night being a knoxville guy. i respect both teams greatly, esp maryville as i follow them quite closely. but lets stop on the phillips knocking-- SS doesnt travel to maryville if not for him.... heck he played 95% of the plays last night. and it is correct that he is enrolling early at wisc. from my understanding. lets all wish him well, and more importantly, luck. lets look at carl stewart.... he got unlucky and played/plays behind nfl caliber backs. yet he has stuck it out and contributes year in year out at AUBURN!!!!! like FBE stated, lets cheer all these kids on and hope they give football here in ET a better name!
  22. can we lay to rest the phillips vs burnette argument?? both are OUSTANDING HS qbs. bottomline. and both will be talked about for yrs to come on the "best ET qbs in the last 10 yrs" threads that pop up every year. they both make plays, period. they both work outstanding in their system. great qbs do just that-- they take the playbook their coaches give them and try to win the game for their team....they dont decide what O's their school runs... they only control how hard they work and how hard they play. and both these kids do both of these things, as were evidenced last night!! quit this crazy talk about burnette being a system qb (he makes all the throws asked of him and has great arm strength) and phillips calling his own # (hs qbs dont call their own plays.... and he didnt look like he made too many bad reads on the option). they are top notch qbs and i look forward to keeping up with BOTH of them as their respective careers progress.
  23. think about a better word selection next time man
  24. i believe middle TN has been dominate in 5A as of late, but there's some "REAL" football played in the east two... 3 teams from knox area will be playing for the gold ball yet again this year. there's this team from ET, maryville, maybe you've heard of them.... not taking anything away from smyrna though, from what i've read they seem to be a great team... like i said earlier, looking forward to seeing them with my own eyes next week.
