  1. As a teacher/coach, salaries are definately important and they are low for the amount of work that goes into it. Part of the discrepancy between us and GA is the cost of living and we have no state income tax (thank goodness). I was a part of the "corporate" world before getting into teaching and most companies base their salaries, in part, on cost of living. Somebody working for the same company in Memphis, doing the same job will make considerably more than the person doing that job in Cookeville, for example. I want to see salaries increase just as much as the rest of you(believe me), but I thought I would play devil's advocate for a minute.
  2. I can't speak for Powell, but coaches receiving money from booster clubs is a legal, accepted occurance. This is the only way that smaller schools and systems that might not have that high of a base salary or supplement can compete to attract quality coaches. This practice is not as well known in TN right now, but it is going on. This practice has worked remarkably well in other states, GA for instance.
  3. The article also said that there was a change of address/residence. If her parents moved, then it's a slam dunk for the transfer.
  4. Camden has a strong nucleus returning. They need to replace the quarterback, and if they can do that with some degree of success, they will have another steller year next year
  5. Also, pleeeeease pick Huntingdon to roll over Camden! We would appreciate ti thumb
  6. What's your record this week? thumb
  7. Thanks for the congrats. I won't pile on too much, there will be plenty of folks to do that pretty soon. Did the final end at 35-0?

Nice try! I feel almost foolish for defending anybody for beating Austin Peay. That being said.... Austin Peay didn't have any td's called back! Check the play-by-play. I was there and didn't remember any, so I had to look it up. They did have very few upper-classmen leave last year. The rest of them quit earlier because they couldn't handle what the new Head coach demanded of them. Apparantly he had to weed out a lot of dead weight in order to start building something. Also, they did have their way throwing the ball. They also ran for 175yds to AP's 53.

Good post. The coaches can do nothing about the surroundings and atmosphere of Martin. Yet they have seemingly brought in 2 very good classes their years there. They will have the freshman of the year in the conference this year in their tail-back. I think he needs less than 50 yards to become the first 1,000 yarder since the 80's (if i'm not mistaken).
  10. I'm not an alum or anything, but I have to agree that Maryville's is the best I have personally seen. MBA's setup is rather nice as well. I know it's apples and oranges, but has anybody seen some in Texas? Gosh!!! Field Turf and Jumbo-Trons are the "NORM" for any program that is semi-competitive.

Thanks!.....my point exactly. However, it is 9of 11 on D returning. They lose MLB and FS, and everyone else is back. And if you look at their media guides from the past two years, the players that have quit the team that should still be there are almost all from TN. Why did they quit? The new coach came in and instilled accountability and discipline, so that post above about "no discipline" couldn't be further from the truth.

Yes, and Rafael wound up quitting the program at Austin Peay. This is a young program with a great staff. This is only the second year for them, so cut them some slack. They only lose two starters this year, and only about 5-6 more next year. This program is headed in the right direction.
  13. Should be a great game! If the atmosphere reflects some of the stuff on these boards, should be a great feel as well. I hope both crowds are packed, and I hope to see the Lions pull out a win on the road!!
  14. Hey G.B. When did Fairview's program take the turn for the good? I remember when I was playing, that both programs just couldn't seem to catch a break.
  15. This is not responding to anything you said specifically, but I hope that players, for either side, are not getting on here and running their mouths. Maybe I'm naive, but I would hope that their focus would be a little stronger than to waste their time bickering with a bunch of people. Personally, I wouldn't want that out of my players.
  16. Plus they lost by 3 touchdowns to that stiff competition. To hear some tell about it, they came up a yard short like the Titans did in the Super Bowl.
  17. Which team did we play last Friday???....last years JV or the team that was supposed to run through us and upset us (as you said "last" week). We expected to win and did win, so we are responding to the smack that was thrown our way last week. If you have a right to talk smack, we have an equal right to talk right back to you, so grow up and take it. As for wanting to play us next year......I'd be carefull what I wish for. We return the vast nucleus of players from this years team. We should be poised for an equally great run next year as well, but we still have unfinished business to clean up this year.
  18. You can single out individual players and athletes all day long. The fact is that the Camden Lions are a "TEAM" and they have played team football all year long. I think that is where there edge is in this game. They don't have one guy that they hang there hat on. Josh only had an average game against Lewis Co. but the entire team contributed to the 32-0 victory. Fairview might have faced greater individuals and athletes, but have they seen a team play together in the manner that Camden does?.....Personally, I don't think so. Should be a great game!
  19. I don't think you have to worry where this team's head is. Coach Ward has made the difference all year in keeping these boys focused. They know what they have to do, and the fact that if they win, they "will" (for Catfish) see Huntingdon next week just gives them more motivation to go out and get the job done. They understand that there is no tomorrow if they lose, so there is nothing to gain by looking ahead when you get to the playoffs.
  20. I think you said it all. Defense "will" win this game. Whichever team makes the big stops will advance. I know Camden's running attack is potent, and Markham is steady as well. I haven't seen Fairview yet, but hear they have a good back as well. I just think that Camden's overall discipline on D, coupled with the fact that they have more playmakers on O will be the difference in the ballgame.
  21. It just depends on whether or not you want to see scenery or semi's. You heard right about Dresden....about 20 minutes too far.
  22. I don't think you will have anything to worry about there. Camden has traveled extremely well all year. Add to the fact that this is the 2nd round of the playoffs, and I think you will see a full house. I know that our fans want to get another shot at Huntingdon just as bad as our players do, so they will be in full throat to cheer them to victory.
  23. Rockwood Alcoa (should advance easily) Goodpasture (setting up a classic next week) Lipscomb (ditto) Camden (goes on the road to advance to rematch with Htown) Huntingdon (home team wins a slugfest) Westview (should be a great game) Carver "That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it"
