  1. I think Coach Weems will get the best out of the Elizabethton girls as the season goes along. He is good and demands hard work and hustle. I think last night was a good learning experience for them. The zone defense they played was pretty good but Greeneville was very patient. Good luck to the lady Cyclones the rest of the way!
  2. If I remember right, it took South Greene a few trips to the Boro before they broke the ice and won it all. I think Greeneville is the best team here this year followed by South Greene. South Greene is young and by the time Ms. Dye is a junior and Casteel and Kinser are seniors I fully expect to see them back in the show, maybe before that. Greeneville has some experienced girls but I don't know if they have enough scoring besides Nicole to make the trip for the title. I hope all the Greene County teams (and City) have a good year. P.S. to pgsg10fr Do you think Shula got a bum deal?????
  3. Since my days in high school, through the time watching the South Greene girls win state championships, to the Greeneville boys going to the state tourney it has always amazed me how jealous people in this county (and city) are of other schools. Sure I want my team to beat your team but I want your team to beat (whichever the case may be), Morristown West, Rutledge, Happy Valley, Jefferson County,Elizabethton. You guys get the point.........sure anyone would rather their team or school would win a state championship but if they cant then I feel the people in OUR town should root for the children of the people they work with, or the people they see at the movies or in town rather than be jealous of them. And once again as usual, just my opinion!
  4. I have to agree with the fact the Elizabethton played very hard and determined last night. I was impressed with their defensive game. Wiggins played his usual game and that did prove to be the difference in the game. The Greeneville defense played good too allowing only 30 points. If Elizabethton plays that way most of the season they will be pretty successful. Good luck to Betsy the rest of the season.
  5. Nothing really happened, he just worked hard to get better.
  6. This young man came a long way from his fresman year to his senior year. I know from talking with his father that he worked very hard to accomplish that. He was in the gym almost every morning before school working. It did not hurt that he had some athletic ability to go along with his hard work. And it is hard to have a really good night everytime you hit the floor.
  7. Shawn Martin at South Greene is better than Feezell, he is a sophomore. Nothing against Feezell he is pretty good too but to say he is by far the best, I don't think so.
  8. Oh Barb I dont disagree with them all playing, not at all I was just curious about why he didn't let his JV play against another JV, thats all. Commonsense, Now I see the classifications listed here, seems to me that before you go off saying that Greeneville would not play their county rivals because they think they are too good, it appears to me that Greeneville would be in 3A not 2A to me. And since the county schools are 2A they would only play them as nonconference such as how they used to play South Greene and Chuckey-Doak. The reason I have been given that they do not play down is because of the traditional rivalries, the travel expense of having to play 3A and the money they would lose because of the smaller crowds they would have at home and on the road which would make sense. Now this is the football classes but how are the other classes like basketball broken down? They have to be different because of only three classes in BBall.
  9. I am not doubting that and honestly I was not talking about the last few years and would not argue your point on that. I know things have not gone well there lately and losing Coach Ricker was not good for the program, however I think that this years team will work hard and give it their all. I have been known to be wrong on occasion though. So as usual that is just my opinion.
  10. I saw the West Greene scrimmages last Saturday too. I think they are improved since last season and they will win a few more games. They have some talent but for some reason (and I am not saying it is coaching) and I don't know what the reason is, they have not seemed to get it done in the past but maybe this year will be different. Only question that I really have is how come they played their varsity starters against the Greeneville JV and then played their JV against the Elizabethton varsity? I could not figure that out. Maybe it was for a confidence factor or something but only the coach would know why.
  11. South Greene At Unaka, 1975 I think. South Greene 7 - Unaka 0 Colder than Dangit at the game! South Greene won the Watauga Conference that year.
  12. Well that right there may have hit the nail on the head about how come South Greene has such nice facilities. I credit that to the work of Larry Neil Ricker and his son Neil. I know that Larry worked his tail off for that school and like him or don't like him he was good for the school and the community. Also if the coach that was in the NFL and WFL had a kid who was at North Greene or West Greene then I am sure that they would be able to say that he was helping them but he is from South Greene and his son goes there. They do have some good assistants working out there but as you all say the pay is not very real good and it is almost impossible to cover all the things that need to be covered in football with a three man coaching staff!
  13. Are you saying that this years team has a bunch of babies and quitters on it? I know most of those girls and I would have to disagree with that statement!
  14. I think this team is pretty talented and will content night in and night out very well. I think they may be a year away from making a run at going to the state tourney again but you never know. Hopefully the coach will not give up on them and they will play hard for the coach. Several of these girls can play the game and I think they are going to be pretty good. I think it will be tough to get through Elizabethton, Austin East, or Unicoi County but most of these girls are young and should improve as the season goes along. Good Luck Lady Rebels!
  15. I have been suprised that this topic has not been brought up yet. I would like to hear some thoughts on this team as well. I know they are pretty young but I believe those girls have some talent. Will Rechelle Dye start at the point this year?
  16. I totally agree with that. I was just saying that there is some pretty good talent there and as they work harder and get bigger and stronger they will become pretty good. I think the loss of Donahue is big, I think that Hoese could shoot the ball but he had to be open. But I really dont think they will be as good as last year but they were pretty good last year, hard to do that year in and year out.
  17. Sorry but that is a pretty poor attitude. I think anytime a kid from our area goes somewhere to play it is great whether he came from Greene County (which is even more special) or if he came from somewhere close (Morristown, Johnson City, Elizabethton). I try to keep up with the boys from East Tennessee when they go somewhere. I think all of East Tennessee should let them know they are proud of them even if they went to a rival school. Sure Donahue did not go to Georgetown like Wattad is going to do but he gets to go to college, get an education, and play basketball a sport he loves. Thats a really good deal for him.
  18. Keller is pretty good either driving or shooting, Martin is an athlete, Period. If he or someone can keep his head on straight he will be pretty darn good, he can jump out of the gym and he has been working on his jump shot. I think baseball might be both of these boys better sport but they are pretty good. I think South Greene will have a decent year, nothing like last year but they will be alright. I think next year might be better than this one they do have a few sophomores who will be pretty good including the two mentioned above.
  19. The first half of this game was very good. Both teams were hitting hard and playing well. Tennessee High losing their quarterback early did not help them. They were able to move the ball between the 30's all night but then Mo. West defense would stiffen up. At the end of the first half when Tenn. High failed to run out the clock and gave up a big play and West able to hit the field goal for a 9-0 lead at the half kind of seemed to be the game breaker. J.J. Simms, all I can say is wow. He set the tone in this game early with two hits on the Tennessee High quarterback. I was sitting in the stands saying that he would not want to run the option again tonight. Greenlee (I believe was his name) had 240 yards on 8 carries 200 of them on three carries pretty much. I was impressed with both teams in the fact that there was only one turnover as hard as they were hitting tonight. West was impressive. Tennessee High gave a good fight and played hard. East vs. West next week could be a really good game.
  20. The state pays for summer camps they go to? Wow guess the coach took money from all the players then cause they had to pay! Unless the coach took the checks and gave money to the kids because they wanted some extra cash. But seriously we did have to pay.
  21. Hey Barb, Imagine for one second if Kesha had as much intensity as Meagan had! Talk about WOW! And on another intensity note think how good Nicole could be if she had a little more fire about her as well. She is a very very talented player but (in my opinion) she could be absolutely unreal if she would get some fire about her.
  22. Really good game tonight. CAK played a very good game. South Greene came to play and played hard. The CAK passing attack was very good, the quarterback did overthrow some open recievers but they still looked pretty good. I feel that the South Greene lack of a passing attack really hurt them tonight. They ran the ball pretty well but CAK was able to put more people in the box and shut them down. It was a very good football game hard fought from start to finish.
  23. South Greene has been to the playoffs 14 straight years, that sounds like a pretty awesome graveyard there. I have heard unofficially of course the Greenlee would like to have it. I think he would do a pretty good job with them. I also feel that it might not be a bad idea to try and get someone from out of Greeneville or Greene County to coach them. Totally new blood is not always a bad idea.
  24. About the Harris kid, I don't think so. I feel if anyone of the incoming freshman could have the opportunity to play varsity it might be Wesley Quarles. I am speaking in my opinion only and have not seen a practice of either the varsity, b-team, or freshman. I may be way off but I don't think any of the freshman will see varsity action at least not in the early stages of the year. I know they were good in middle school but Coach Duncan runs a different system than the middle school and it takes them some time to get used to his system, which by the ways seems to be pretty good. Gosh it does not seem possible that it is time for roundball already. It is going to be different not seeing DeShaud & Eric out there, seems like they had been there for a long time.
  25. In the news this afternoon that Coach Barry Carter of the West Greene Buffaloes has resigned as head football coach effective immediately. Coach Carter will remain as a teacher and the schools athletic director. He was quoted as saying that it is time to see if someone else could change the programs fortune. He said he was stepping down to see if someone else can get it done. Quoted from The Greeneville Sun newspaper. I am sure Coach Carter wants to see the program do well and maybe some new blood in the coaching position can get it done. Time will tell. Best of Luck to Coach Carter and to the Buffs next season.
