  1. You are right Rob. Their schools are horrible. They are still filling teaching positions and I will bet by Christmas they will have as many openings as they did at the beginning of the year. They went to this Teach America thing and those teachers usually bail out before they even get their chairs warm. As far as coaching all the really good ones retired and got out. I would say Jesus Patino is our best now with Jimmy Adams getting out. What about that guy at Hamilton who won the state a few years back? This guy had no clue. Just shows that talent wins games in the MCS.
  2. I wold say he didn't do his homework on the type school and community he was moving into. Many times these transplants from Florida or any other area come into a setting like this and just don't "fit". Crossville can be a closed community in many ways even though there are many retirees there. Sounds like he got caught up in the good old boys system of the ruling elite of Cumberland Co. You should have stayed in Florida lad. Sounds like he got a lesson in small town Tennessee politics. Let me guess some local yokal just graduated from Tech and needs a job.
  3. He has had 2 state appearances in MS and he doesnt teach any classes where he is at now. Would be a great move for CC but prolly not so great for him.
  4. Only one man capable of turning that sinking ship around but I doubt he would leave MS after the success he has had.
  5. You seem to have some sort of agenda with a coach who would have had that program down there in the state tournamen in basketball. You need to examine your problems.
  6. Friend of mine says the coaches are a little arrogant and distant but he says they do a great job. Maybe that is what causes all the hostility and the fact that their players play really hard.
  7. Now correct me if I am wrong but isn't this about the 3rd time HC has been involved in something like this during the season? Was there something similar to this that occured in KY at a tourney? Now I am not faulting the HC players or coaches. Maybe they are just some sort of "lightening rod" for this kind of stuff...and maybe it is hard for some of these teams to stomach losing to HC.
  8. I am going to stick my nose in one more time. The fact that SP is a football school should not in any way determine the direction of the basketball program. Why can't both be good? Why can't you use these great athletes to your benefit if you are the basketball, baseball or golf coach? There are alot of programs that have done that . Look at Lake Co in west TN. They use their athletes to their advantage. Maybe the problem is not with the athletes. Maybe it is with the direction. My point is motivate your athletes to your advantage because in a small school there is not a large enough pool to go around.
  9. Pardon me for interjecting my opinions on a thread about a team I know little about but isn't this the reason you HIRE a coach to begin with? To instill these very ideas and principles within his/her team? I know it is tough to do and sometimes impossible. I have always believed that the best coaching jobs are done by coaches who make their players believe in them to the point that they actually blame THEMSELVES for poor performance. Man that is real coaching. Maybe if this coach here could somehow get a signature win then his players would "buy in" to his system. It doesn't seem to be happening now according to what I see going on here.
  10. I sure hope SP makes at least the sub state. This whinning and blaming lack of success and discipline on not having a gym is just a little ridiculous. I know you guys know Vic Grider there at SP. I am familiar with him by reputation and from watching him compete in the playoffs with Friendship Christian and TC. Great coach. What do you think he would do if told that there was an abandonded nuclear waste dump buried under Beene Stadium and he would have no field to play on for 3 years while they cleaned it up? Think he would just quit on his team? I would say old Vic would work 5 times as hard just to prove to everyone that he was a real winner...which he is. Now I will say not having a real gym to play in is tough...but a REAL coach would build a winner in an outhouse if needed. Of course none of those teams in the Valley will make it far...they will be eliminated by the Chattanooga teams and if any were lucky to survive then the Middle Tennessee teams would put them out of their misery.
  11. The proof will be in the pudding. Let's see where the ledger stands a year in March. This could be a state tournament type .
  12. Since the lower levels represent the very future of your program I would say it would be a disasterous mistake to forsake the development of the youth program. Do you think Vic Grider cares nothing about this area of his program? He knows everything about it. You don't win if you don't have a solid youth program and he knows that. This job has changed with the building of the new gym...it is no longer a let's play basketball until it is time for spring football sport. This is now a 24/7 neglect your family sport at SP. That new gym has changed everything. Basketball is going to be important there now, not anywhere as big as football, but important just the same.
  13. I would say he had better be ready to commit because the expectations just skyrocketed with the completion of that new gym. There will be major accountability in SP now. Just look at OP, he cares nothing about basketball and he started this thread. Don't know if Thompson would come back to the Valley, I hear he got 12,000 more in jack to go to that school in MS plus no teaching. Phillips needs to decide if this is important. Good guy with good intentions but this is going to be a major task now.
  14. Would that be the "Dream Team" Queenie? Two strong willed personalities.
  15. Let me guess...the mane you heard was Coach Steve Thompson...I would say that would really be hard to believe.
  16. You are kidding...right? It would be like watching Bob Knight coach a middle school team. It would be ugly to watch.
  17. Where did he go to hs? Did he play ball there? Did he play in college? Where has he coached before and has he ever won? The first time I ever laid eyes on this guy was on tv last Sat night. I was expecting to see Rodney Nelson.
  18. They didn't play or compete with the Memphis teams. The best weren't even there. They beat a worn down Clarksville team who should have been beaten by Ridgeway. Maryville won this tourney by default.....but a gold ball none the less.
  19. If that Dillard character had not tried to pull a fast one maybe it would not have happened. Dillard was no coach and had no discipline or characterand it carried over to his team. There Ramfan I said it.
  20. Yeah right................. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  21. Not sure either school has football and if they do you can bet a tub o' suds they don't care about it.
