  1. Either way, the principal must have had his eye on somebody for the job. I'm curious as to who exactly it is.
  2. Looks like we're scrimmaging Dresden this spring in May. Hope you guys bring a good crowd over.
  3. Number 1 until someone knocks us off. No surprise there. I never take these rankings seriously, but I was surprised to see Northeast at #3. I didn't realize they have 18 starters returning. If their depth is even half way formidable, they should be much improved and very dangerous next year with Jalen Reeves-Maybin back at QB. Might be the best team they've had since 1995.
  4. If that was the case then he would've resigned on his own terms. From what I heard, they fired him. I certainly wouldn't want that printed in the paper. He is remaining on the faculty, however. I would assume that will just be for the remainder of the school year though, but I'm not positive.
  5. Well this is odd. An exodus of coaches from the staff almost immediately before the head coach is fired. Even stranger is the fact that this occurred before what could have and probably would have been the best season for Springfield football in quite some time. The timing is off. This whole situation is off.
  6. If they were to push the season back to September, it would most likely still be starting in the very early part of the month, so these kids would still be practicing for a great portion of August. Besides, it's usually still pretty hot in early September in this part of the country. So I doubt there would be that much of a difference unless they moved it to late September, which will never happen. Not with the potential humongous overlap of football season/basketball season. The best thing to do for both coaches and players alike is to be aware, and use caution when it comes to heat. Keep the players hydrated under all circumstances, and on those unbearably hot days, use even more caution. There will be a few accidents here and there due to heart problems, asthma, etc. But you would be surprised at just how far a little common sense could go towards limiting these fatal incidents when it comes to heat/humidity. On those triple digit days with dew points in the 70's, coaches should probably know that 3 a days are not the best idea.
  7. Best of luck filling all those positions. It will be a transition no doubt, but from the sound of it, you all have a ton of seniors back next year. I'm sure there are at least a handful of leaders in that bunch who could, if anything, help smooth the transition a little bit (especially if most of the system is held in place). If those kids stick with it 2012 can still be an improvement/positive year for the Yellow Jackets. Good luck this season. Also, what position on Springfield's staff did Coach Southerland hold? I've heard his name mentioned several times by the Yellow Jacket faithful.
  8. I'd like to see Liberty win the gold again. Good luck crusaders!
  9. I judge the success of a program based on a combination of pretty much everything mentioned in this thread. Some more than others. Wins, championships, talented athletes, discipline. All of it goes into what makes a program successful. Football scholarships are a bit unique, in that not only do they reflect positively on the program, but they reflect very positively on the individual athlete receiving the scholarship as well as his family. And they unlock a door that none of the other things I mentioned can unlock. One thing is for certain, whatever that player does with that scholarship will have more of an effect on him than any trophy or ring ever will. And because of that, I think this thread poses a very good question. But as I said, I believe it is a combination of many things that make a "program" successful.
  10. Not quite, but they got themselves a good one. Best of luck to Humboldt and Coach Bland.
  11. Interesting. My Junior year (1994), we went 6-4 and missed the playoffs. I'm not sure what the major differences are now. I've never paid close attention to how the playoff format really even works. I honestly don't know what "z-format" even means. All I know is, I see a lot of people complain about how poor the current playoff system is. While I agree it's more watered down compared to what it used to be (back when there were only 3 classes), which was pre-1993 I believe, I still don't hate the current system. I personally think it's better than it was just 3 or 4 years ago...even with the extra Division 1 playoff class.
  12. What are the significant differences between the playoffs now and the playoffs in the years mentioned? Serious question. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the private schools move into their own division starting in '96? And I know there were 5 division 1 classes. So, other than the addition of 6A, what are the differences between now and then?
  13. Okay, so outside of Farragut and Christian Brothers, who else has seen their own share of dominance in the sport?
  14. That's a long way to travel for a spring scrimmage, but rest assured I'll be there. Can't wait! I'm ready for a glimpse of the '12 Patriots. Still a ton of talent in the program and I'm excited to see who starts to emerge. Arlington's a solid 6A program as well. Good way to start for these younger players.
  15. I'd love to see JCM back on the radar. Insane how things went down hill at that school so quickly. Just a few years ago, that program was still very competitive and a threat to anyone in West Tennessee. Hopefully they can get that edge back. The Rock was/is one of the best, most intimidating atmospheres for a high school football game this state has to offer.
  16. Good post. From an outsider's perspective, any program that goes 9-1 or 10-0 as often as Dobyns Bennett does, shouldn't be making early playoff exits as often as Dobyns Bennett does. Especially with 6 classifications, which has watered down the playoff system significantly. With 0 losses or even just 1 loss, you're basically guaranteed to be facing vastly inferior competition in the early rounds of the playoffs. Again, I'm no expert, but even with Maryville in the mix, the quarterfinals and semifinals should be much more familiar territory to the D-B football program than they currently are. Strength of schedule plays a role, but not nearly as big of a role as most people think. The team I root for plays in one of the weakest AAA districts in the state, and we still won the 5A state title this past year, and we've also gone to the semifinals 3 other times in the past six years. The truth is, if both teams have even some semblance of coaching, the team with the better talent will win "most" of the time at the high school level. As much as your program dominates in the regular season on such a consistent basis, your talent definitely seems like it is better than "1st or 2nd round" talent. Just my opinion.
  17. No kidding. I saw one yesterday and that's some serious bling! Kudos to all the young men and coaches who EARNED them. Also Kudos to whoever designed them. They're flashy, but I like that they didn't go overboard with it. Nicely done.
  18. Okay, so what exactly is the point of your thread? You start by asking which QB is better, when according to you, it's a no-brainer. So why even make a thread about it? Are you just angry that the hometown school didn't offer your team's QB, but they just so happen to have an interest in somebody else's? Seems like a petty attempt to vent your frustration over something that really doesn't even matter. Robinette is getting his shot at a big school, in the SEC none the less. If UT really did miss out him, then I'm sure they'll regret it sooner rather than later. And if that's truly the reason behind your post, then why even bring Charlie High into it? Propping up Robinette and using that as a reason to put down High is asinine. Both are/were excellent players at the high school level. Robinette making it to the Elite 11 camp doesn't change that fact. Why some schools have an interest in one or the other is between those schools' staffs and the players.
  19. How tall is Charlie High? In response to the OP, I came away from championship weekend more impressed with High than I was with Robinette. Patton seemed to be the better all-around athlete, but Charlie "wowed" me more with his passing ability. It's hard to make a final judgement based off of one game, but that was my impression.
  20. Thanks a lot, olddevil. I can't wait either!
  21. Anyone know the dates for spring practice? Or who will be on the scrimmage schedule this year?
  22. Don't know much about the guy other than he's been the DC at Columbia for the past few years. Best of luck to coach Stone.
  23. Anymore news on this? It's been a good while now.
  24. Nothing "silly" about it. I asked that question well before a new coach had been named. Creasy was a hot topic in the Gallatin thread, and I'd heard he applied. Don't shoot the messenger.
