  1. Brighton is like Arlington was last year, run a spread, scored a lot of points against little competition, were 10-0, and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Not sayin they were a bad team..... --------------- Another point that should be mentioned, Millington had 2 losses (MSU and CBHS) last year. This skews Arlington's district, if Millington were to play 2 average teams they would have won those games. CBHS and MUS, even in down years are extremely tough games. My point is most teams really only play a couple of tough district games in any given year. There are teams in the toughest Middle and East TN districts that would struggle against CBHS, MUS, Briarcrest, Whitestation, Millington, Craigmont, Cordova, Whitehaven, Melrose, Germantown, Collierville, Ridgeway, Wooddale and probably Arlington. Now i understand they think they would blow everyone up based on what they see every week, but opinions vary and bias controls the logic. Middle and East TN has great football, but they are not unbeatable. West TN can ball, I think White Station proved that last year.
  2. Big game in Shelby Metro... I'm bias (obviously a Tiger fan), I hope the Tigers can pull out a extremely tough win. Craigmont is loaded and should be a 5A contender, who could have beat Briarcrest if not for a couple of untimely turnovers. Arlington has it's offense working again (365 total points, 45.6 point per game), but can their defense stand tough? And can their O keep moving the ball with a great D like Craigmont on the field? What do you think?
  3. ------------------------------ We did lose by 7 in the 1st at home to Indy (Nashville). However, that team was good... 10-1 by 7 in the 2nd playoff game in the 3 year history of varsity football. Also those seniors... went 5-6(or 6-5), 1-9 and finished with 10-1. A hard working group, no doubt. The playoff loss was disappointing though, hopefully they can use it as a building block for the program. This current team is playing hard... we'll see how they end up.
  4. -------------------------- Brighton is a great team, but they have only scored 345 points (still impressive).
  5. Ridgeway over Wooddale 28-21 Mitchell over East 34-14 Arlington over Cordova- Hope the Tigers can pull a tough win out. Southwind over Germantown 28-20 Millington over Bolton 42-10 Non-district Games: Whitehaven over Sheffield 30-14 CBHS over ECS 36-10
  6. Now that is cool. I like objective, but it is too logical to use.
  7. A BSC format? Something that already is hated and subjective. No, that would be a huge mistake. It would become a popularity contest, biased against the new, upcoming or rural programs.
  8. I think those are important facts. 1) This is who they traditionally play, program up or down. Maybe not necessarily by design. I mean that area has exploded, these programs are fed by growth in these schools. The growth probably parallels the competitveness as well. 2) These options are close. What if they had to travel an hour or more one way? As far as a 6A playing 1A, there has to be a story behind that.
  9. Just curious. What is the drive time to these games for Brentwood? Also, How many years have these teams been scheduled?
  10. What is the solution? I mean you guys in the middle have been saying this is a problem, because you are being cheated based on your tough schedules. Some teams do not have close competition. Brighton is 6A, but the smallest 6A in the state(I've been told). Also, they are somewhat rural, probably a good 45min drive to the edge of the Memphis metro and at least 45-60min to Jackson. Some of these teams are scheduled out of the past, but who would want to play them from Memphis and drive an hour, when there are other competitive teams closer. Who will be the one to determine who is a good opponent? Are we going to have a poll? Or maybe we just go on the past? Or maybe we could base it on best uniform? I mean how do you know your district is competitve when they play the same teams? I mean just because they have a past doesn't mean they're competitive "this year" or for that matter they're competition either. Granted playing lower division teams to purposely fluff your schedule should be controlled, but how? The real problem was created by the new classifications. Trying to satisfy one group, created this problem for others. Some districts only have 1 or 2 of classification. What do they do? Travel all over the state to find their competition? Who pays for that? How do you penalize them for playing their district? Why are they in that district? My solution: Redistrict with only 1 classification, break up some districts and give equal travel to all districts. Problem created: Traditional or nearby opponents don't play "in" district. Some teams traveling further than ever...then cost(big potentially).
  11. Yes, I would. I'm sure they know they let one slip away. Since I was at the MILL/CBHS game, I did not see most of the game, so when I commented, it was based on what I saw. I saw the stats late yesterday, and talked to a few other fans who saw the game. The rushing stat is the most glaring, this is from big loss sacks. I witnessed 1 for at least 15, maybe 20yd. But like I said Westwood has talent, and even though I only saw 5-6 minutes of the game, several Westwood players stuck out immediately.Westwood lost to (#9)Hardin Co. 27-20 2 weeks ago. This is the team that eliminated Ridgeway from the playoffs last year. Arlington was lucky to get the win, as I said earlier. Like many other teams, Arl has several new/young starters and it takes sometime to adjust/learn. Make know mistake though, the Tigers have talent as well, which is also how you give yourself a chance to win with stats like that.
  12. kwc, on 24 September 2010 - 11:09 PM, said: Arlington actually beat Westwood 28-27. Talk about playing it close! Ridgeway DOMINATED. I know I didn't list the Kingsbury/Germantown game as a big game, but I have to admit ... I was shocked to see that Kingsbury won 20-14. WOW! ============================================ So I decide to go to the Millington/CBHS game (great game). I get 1 update at the half of the Arlington game 21-13. I am worried, because like I said westwood has talent. The millington game is over so fast, that I have time to drive back to Arlington, get gas, find a parking place, walk in, and sit down with about 4-5 left in the 4th 28-27 Westwood has the ball. On 3rd they complete a pass for a first to the Arl 30 and fumble. Arl takes over and get one 1st down then a holding call(debateable), then a sack, no debate , then a throw away... punt. 1:40 left 2 TOs for Westwood from their 30(game on). Move it to the 50, sack, TO, incompletion, scramble, completion 1st down, TO (last), :13, scramble for 3-4 yd, clock ran out. Westwoods QB is big agile and strong with a good arm. They also have several talented skilled players, and some size on the line. They are better than they're record, or at least they were last night. Arlington is feeling pretty lucky this morning.
  13. I am going to give a unbiased report. I went out to Millington to see a good matchup, and was not disappointed. I got there a little late, but it was still scoreless. Millington is athletic with size, and they were giving the Brothers all they wanted. This game was very close, which many don't know because of the final score. Millington had a nice run (43yd over and threw 3 or 4 defenders then out sprinted the rest) to open scoring at about the 5-6 minute mark of 2nd (missed PAT). CBHS took they're possession and drove about 65 yd, converting some unbelievable throws and catches on 3rd downs. On about the 20, the Millington blitz had the sack all but wrapped up, but some how CBHS escaped and power scrambled to a TD (great individual effort). 10-6 Half 3rd and 4th qtr- CBHS had a nice drive with some short power runs out of a pistol variant, and some incredible timely throws and catches. Millington stalled them around the 20, CBHS kicks FG (about 30yd). the rest of the half was defense until about 4:30 in the 4th. On 4th and 4 on about the 25, CBHS after a TO, out of the spread 4 wide, throws and out and up to the slot. The coverage was tight as it could be, (I mean stride for stride as good as can be), unfortunately the ball was thrown perfectly over the outside shoulder of the receiver who semi dives to catch it on what looked to be his finger tips in the very back corner of the endzone. Score 17-6 CBHS 4:20 ish. Millington gets a nice run by the QB to the 50, then runs a HB pass that is intercepted and returned to the 45. 2 something on the clock, and CBHS throws the bomb on a defense that is pressing because they have too. That it's. The game was 10-6 @ 4:40 in the 4th. Millington was right there till the end and the Brothers are happy to get out of there with a win. Also was one of the fastest games I have ever seen. Maybe 1 penalty the whole game. 2 well coached good teams.
  14. I don't know anything about Munford, but Overton has a talented squad. I would not be suprised to see Overton coming out with a win. Very talented skill players.
  15. Ridgeway (4-0) @ Melrose (2-2) Ridgeway 28 - 14 CBHS (4-1) @ Millington (4-1) Millington 21 - 14 East (3-2) @ MUS (3-2) MUS 28 - 7 Westwood (2-3) @ Arlington (4-1) Westwood has talent. I just hope the Tigers can pull it out. Cordova (1-3) @ Collierville (2-2) Collierville 14 - 13 in OT. Tough game to call. I really think Collierville has talent and are well coached. I haven't seen Cordova yet, but I know they are always talented and coached well. The thing that throws me is the Dragons loss to Ridgeway (who I haven't seen but I know are very talented). I just wonder if Collierville had some injuries or players out. Not to take anything away from Ridgeway though, I know they are the real deal. Collierville is at home however.
  16. DHSFB64 I thought what he was saying was, he was not impressed because he knows the coach is good and expected them to be very competitive and therefore he would not be suprised if they beat some good teams this year.
  17. Arington 35 Collierville 34 Crazy game, the Dragons had big play after big play to 14-0 1st qtr start. Arlington was playing catch up from that point on. Tough game and I feel both teams could have won but luckily we came out on top. Man do these two schools play close games...went right down to the wire. Good luck Dragons, not that you need it. You have a great team.
  18. DannyQ???? Collierville 27 Arl 0??? ------------------------------ Well I think Collierville has a good team and desrve respect. I do not however think they will shutout Arlington. I am bias but I'd like to see: Arlington 24 Collierville 21 in thriller for us and the film gremilins.
  19. I would like to nominate Arlington. Arlington has been playing varsity football for 3 years. In 2007, their first year of varsity, they went to the playoffs due to a forfeited schedule by Bolton. In 2008 they went 1-9. This year, they went 10-0 in the regular season, winning their first district title, and beating several teams for the first time ever. A 9 game turn around is unheard of, add in that it happened in their 3rd year of varsity football and only the 6th year of being open.
  20. Congrats to both teams on a great season!!! White Station overcame all the hype and put in a great performance. I am extremely happy that the West will not have to endure the trash talk from the middle TN area. Congrats again to White Station on a well deserved championship.
  21. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's right. Oh and Germantown beat one team with a winning record.
  22. Any offense can win with: the right coaching, talent and defense. Better put: a great defense can win with any offense. As far as pro football goes, great QBs dominate the nfl. They make incredible plays in the passing game as routine as a dive play. The pro passing game is impossible to stop with any of the top 5-10 QBs. It has nothing to do with the 5yd illegal contact rule either**. It is because those qb's can throw a football thru a 3ft diameter window anywhere inside of 30-40 yds from the line of scrimage with timing and velocity. They have continuity with the same players, coaches and system for years, sometimes a decade. Ex. Brett Farve has played in the West Coast offense for 16 yrs or more, with that arm. These QBs are the best 5-10 in the world. Think about that, the top 5 "3 point shooters in the world", but they're shooting for six every play from anywhere on the field. What play would you call? **(That rule was put into play in the early 2000's because it made PI and defense holding easier to call and less subjective. Took it away from the refs. ex. NE early 2000's would tackle all backs at the line of scrimage and be in constant contact at other times. Games that brought this change NE vs IND, NE vs STL (SB)).
  23. I think most of the quotes regarding Arlington were good and correct. You did not come close to living up to your #1 seed. Your team got beat by a team that was lucky to get in the playoffs. Bitter much? ------------------- We lost, so did you. The difference is no one from Memphis was talking about how superior our football was over Wilco. Seeing your superior arrogance getting beat was awesome! Bitter...we were 1-9 last year, 10-1 this year our 3rd in varsity football. We are very happy, just more knowing Wilco is not playing, just watching.
  24. httytddy » Sat Nov 28, 2009 5:05 pm From the comments on the Memphis Commercial Appeal website: "I really believe Maryville doesn't have the competition that the teams in West Tennessee have. In Memphis, the teams are so talented and beat up on each other. I believe if Maryville were on the west side, I don't believe they would be going to the state championship game year after year. Good Luck and bring home that gold ball for the city of Memphis". ..........I believe if Maryville were on the west side, I'd probably have to move. -------------- Maryville can compete anywhere(except maybe wilco so they say), I have no idea where this quote is from.
