  1. How's that crow tasting? SH has NO seniors on its team. These girls will take the state title next year....bank it.
  2. Cheer up.....you could be from East TN and get dumped on by the officials all the time at the state tournaments. If your team is from the Chattanooga to Nashville area, you're ahead of the game. Overall the refs have done a good job this year at the individual tournament, but man o man, stalling and cautions were handed out in one weird manner. Same with takedowns......although it always seemed to favor the Chatt/Nash area teams. Just an observation.
  3. So the Schurlknight kid at 126 from Science Hill beats Taylor from Cleveland 13-1 at the state duals, but you see Taylor ahead of him. The Goldstein kid from Science Hill should be in the mix at 138 (top 3). He's been at 145 all season until last week for the duals. He should be in there near the end and has a chance to win it all.
  4. The officiating.....now that was upsetting. It was definitely like the box of chocolates Forrest Gump talks about.
  5. The Science Hill 170 lb has beaten the DB kid twice this year. I'd put him ahead of Stout. JMO The others look in the ballpark.
  6. Ditto what you said. UTC charged for concessions like you were at a pro football game. People were rude (like they didn't want to be working there, and by this, I mean you could tell it was the arena paid workers and not volunteer parents that seemed rude). You were so far away from the floor it was laughable. UTC is a closer drive for us, but I actually like the cow palace. Plenty of room, family friendly concession prices, and you can bring in a cooler. Parking is better too. As for the duals, Clarksville people did a great job of being friendly and running a good tournament. That place was WAY TOO SMALL to be holding the state duals. No seating, people on top of each other, etc. Plus, unless you live in Nashville, it's a darn long way from everyone else. It simply had outgrown Clarkesville. Anyway, the Ag center works for me I guess.
  7. I heard Science Hill beat Bradley Central tonight over at Soddy Daisy. Can anyone confirm this (or the score).
  8. No doubt. I didn't mean for it to sound like a slam to the backup guy. SH has many backups that likely could have qualified. I just thought the missing kid was a little stronger wrestler and likely would have placed (if not won it). Hats off to the backup for a great effort. He can be proud.
  9. Science Hill had 12....their 145 pounder could not wrestle due to injured knee at state duals......would have been 13
  10. Hey, many teams come to the state duals with the intent of knocking Science Hill out. It's funny, if wrestling stops near the middle of the state, then why does Science Hill keep coming in 3rd or 4th at the state duals? I'm glad Blackman has something for motivation now................they will need it.
  11. Feathers not ruffled at all. I see many teams wrestle on the line, and it appears they are coached to do that, it drives me crazy. SH is not one of those teams. As for laying flat and trying not to get pinned, I would hope every wrestler in the world tries not to get pinned in any match. Giving up 3 in a dual is better than giving up 6. Most would agree on this.
  12. I don't know this guy, but I know how our society (especially school boards) take the chicken sh!t politically correct approach to everything. They'll let a thug stay in a classroom as a student, and kick out the kid who forgot he had a tylenol in his pocket from just getting over the flu on a weekend. I'll bet the coach's facebook was much more tame than most of the students' facebook pages you see out there. Alas, that's why I don't do facebook. I'm sorry to hear what happened to your friend and coach. Sounds like a raw deal for that volunteer coach. I watch teenagers talk like drunken sailors around adults these days, but I'm afraid to say "darn" around a teenager for fear of getting in "trouble." My how times have changed.
  13. "May stall"????? One thing you'll never see from a SH team is stalling. (Sometimes a little stalling would be recommended IMO, but they are coached to wrestle). I've seen kids that had a 3 or 4 pt lead, should have rode out the last 30 seconds, but wrestled on and got caught).
  14. I guess the good news is, unlike college football, the matches will get settled on the mat and not by a bunch of people in a poll (or on a message board).
  15. I think Science Hill drops in around 8th. I know everyone in the middle of the state thinks wrestling stops at the Knoxville line................but Science Hill is the cream of the crop (as a whole team) in East TN past Chattanooga. They finished 3rd last year and this year's team looks equally as strong. (They would have finished second but Cleveland got the seeding SH should have had). The state duals should be interesting this year.
  16. It really doesn't matter at this point. I know I'll be a big Jeff County fan down at the state duals. I've always been proud of how the Region 1 teams support each other at the state duals and individual championships. SH and JC should represent well. I thought JC had a good group of young men who represent a great sport in the proper manner.
  17. I think what matcat is trying to say in a nice/respectful way was this..............if SH and JC lined up in a normal dual match, and each team wrestled their starters, the final score would be SH 78 JC 3 (without a doubt). It could possibly be 81-0 (because Fulbright for SH at 160 gave the JC kid a tough match). You can sugar coat this all you want, but there is no one in region 1 even close to SH.
  18. In the JV division, you have a mistake. Sam Arms from Science Hill took first at 168 lbs. He pinned the kid from Karns in about 30 seconds.
  19. Maybe, if you like to watch about a 4 team tournament, the go there and watch it.
  20. I know nothing about Central's program, so I can't comment on that. As an overall team, SH is strong top to bottom. Central losing to them speaks more about SH. I think you need to look at the competition at the Fandetti Brawl (plus Soddy and Parkland (NC) had to back out b/c of weather/travel issues). Can you imagine this tournament with those two in it as well. SH should be applauded for not having a tournament where they invite one tough team, and a couple of decent teams (along with a field of patsy's) so they can win their own tournament. Plus, SH is missing two state caliber wrestlers right now with another just coming back from knee surgery. Central's loss to SH is more a reflection of the Hill's strength than Central's lack of it I would assume.
  21. According to many of the parents from many of the schools there (including the ones who have traveled to Hawaii and MN for tournaments), the Fandetti is by far the best tournament they have ever attended. Some quotes: "runs the smoothest of any tournament I've ever seen" "awesome facility" "plenty of room and every seat has a great view" (loved the fact that no one was allowed to be in the middle area where all 6 mats meet so they can see every mat without moving around) "blown away by the food offered at the concessions - not your typical tourney or high school food" "no wonder teams line up to try and get into this tournament" "thank you for making us feel so welcome and not like you just want our checkbook at the tournament" "this is the best wrestling competition top to bottom of any tournament we've ever been to" The list goes on............but this is by far the premier tournament in the southeast. Everyone who gets a chance should attend if they ever get a chance.
  22. "one of the toughest one day tournaments in the south"..........you're kidding, right? Take out Baylor and Science Hill and you couldn't even field a good team if you took the best wrestler off each team left. The GIT used to be a tough/good tournament, but now it's simply "a high school wrestling tournament." Come over to the Fandetti Brawl if you want to see one of the toughest tournaments in the south.
  23. I may be mistaken here, but didn't Central wrestle Science Hill recently and get their butt's handed to them? If I'm wrong, I apologize. I believe it was at the Alcoa Duals.
  24. Hey, I agree with you there. I knew nothing about how SH did until the day after they were eliminated. After they lost the first game, I asked if Daniel pitched and was told no. My first thought, and trust me I have no axe to grind with their coach because I don't even know his name, was why would you not use your ace in the first game to stay in the winner's bracket? I was told SH was up 7-2 and then starting making a ton of errors and lost. It appeared the coach rolled the dice to get D-No to the second game and it backfired. Then, I heard about the game where Daniel pitched something like 1 2/3 innings, then was pulled, and came back in for an inning or two. Bottom line, it appears their ace pitcher only pitched 2 or 3 innings at the state tournament. I laughingly said that was the most ridiculous thing I think I've ever heard for a coach to get in a situation where you're eliminated in 3 games and your stud pitched 3 innings. I do blame the coach, but it has nothing to do with Daniel's talent or stature in TN HS baseball. Slacker is appropriately screen named
  25. First off, for Slacker, I am neither a coach nor teacher at SH. You just lost your credibility there. Let's say DN is not the #1 pitcher or prospect in the nation for a minute. It's not an exact science to begin with. It's not like he's wild or something..........many of his walks are due to trying to hit the corner and kids laying off of the pitches because they can't hit him with regularity to begin with. The best in the pros get hit, so why would any HS pitcher be any different? What team wouldn't benefit from having someone like Jeff Reed as a coach.............so you have no point there. If you think someone is being protected, then there's no use trying to convince you different. DN is a GREAT pitcher and prospect. He needs no protection. Just ask Halls.
