  1. Should be another great game. Will you be able to play it? Please let us know.
  2. Oak Ridge- Catholic 0-1
  3. So... Catholic has been having some nice results recently! Hopefully they don't have one tomorrow. Tomorrow will be Catholic's sixth game in seven days with Hendersonville, Ravenwood and Bearden being three of the six. I hope they have some gas left. They are going to need it against another good team Boyd-Buchanan who is 10-1. Boyd better bring it too. This Catholic team will fight for every inch on the pitch. It should be a great game.
  4. Big oversight! Ravenwood beat a great Father Ryan team 3-0 and tied Knox Catholic 1-1. KC though not extremely talented or speedy plays a great team game of soccer and most of the players are very composed with the ball at their feet (Luke Mishu would certainly be valuable. Hope he comes back this year). Ravenwood has one of the strongest midfields I have seen this year and Will Linder is a fabulous player. BarcaFan with all due respect, by definition, players that are composed on the ball are pretty talented. Composed on the ball means that they are comfortable in receiving the ball with a good first touch, can hold ball either by shielding or dribdling the ball to avoid pressure, and can do that by looking up and not at the ball to be able to find the best pass option in what ever direction is necessary. If not very talented players are allowed to be comfortable and composed with the ball, that does not speak well for the marking of the other team especially their mids that you said were one of the strongest you have seen this year. I suspect that Ravenwood marked well but Catholic's players were able to be composed on the ball because they are talented. That being said, Ravenwood was a really good team that I enjoyed watching, especially their short passing game in the secong half against a talented but not very deep and tired Catholic team. I hope both teams make it to state. There is no question Ravenwood should be ranked if that means anything.
  5. This is actually true. I talked to an eyewitness today. Congratulations to a resilient Karns team. They must have been very motivated. I wonder why? They made the impossible happen . We can talk about Bearden and Farragut, but this is a big win. Bearden and Farragut have all the resources. This a real feat. It shows what players can accomplish when they are motivated.
  6. Any opinions about weekend? Based on scores and games I saw it is hard to tell about any of these teams. The only thing I could tell was that Catholic can play with these teams, I had doubt before tournament, and the other is than no one can beat Farragut. While these mid state teams have good quality and depth they can not match Farragut's quality in numbers.
  7. It was a very up and down physical game. Catholic scored on beautiful free kick from about ten yards outside the box by Kosta Nassios. Henderson tied with a penalty kick for an undisputed hand ball in the box . Max Herrera scored the second goal for Catholic with a well placed header. Two very skillful teams going all out.Hendersonville had more of the game but could not finish.Catholic defended well and counterd with out taking chances. Good luck to both and thanks for the hospitality.
  8. I wasn't at the game but heard Catholics' keeper handled a pass back? The amazing thing is they have a U16 ODP keeper playing field on their JV??? That's hard to figure.... There was some question whether it was an intentional back pass. The official saw it differently. Catholic defenders could have defended better on the resulting kick. Keeper had a good game and has been playing really well. I am sure Catholic is not blaming either the ref or the keeper for the loss.
  9. Farragut 2 Catholic 0. Nice and easy. Catholic played hard and did not quit under difficult circumstances. Farragut was overpowering both with quality and numbers. Stinton both goals. Muth cleaned up in the back. Congratulations to both teams for a well played clean game.
  10. I do not think he dropped one of Tanner's throws all night. He may have punched one away. He was also outstanding in a prior game I saw him. He kept LC in that game . I haven't seen a better one this year but I have not seen all teams yet.
  11. The KNS also said the Jack Mccoy didnt' play in the game because he was playing in an all-star game in London. Nice spin--maybe he is in England but he would not have played if he was in Knoxville because of a red card received in the Bearden tournament for a blatant, cleats-up foul. Whoever fed the KNS reporter that line needs to man up. Wiredtowin Your pre-game analysis of this game was right on. LC had the better of it in my opinion. LC looked more skillfull than when I saw them earlier and they have a great goalie that will keep them in a lot of games.
  12. Tanner had nothing to do with either goal in the LC West game. He was completely shut down, his break-aways and his throw ins. The game was tied for the entirety of the second half until #23 Alex put his second one in. Good game though. Both teams played their hearts out. Sorry soccerkeeper but Alex scored the first and Tanner the second. His own coach stated so in the local paper and I know that I am old but I am not blind yet. You had me wondering there for a minute. The goal came from a great cross from the keepers right. You are right though Tanner was not effective for most of the game. LC's keeper is outstanding and Tanner did not get fed a lot of balls. Most of West's opportunities came from Tanner's throws. West's mids had trouble both holding and distributing the ball. They also missed McCoy. As I said earlier I am sure LC feels they deserved better.
  13. It appears Bearden won 2-1 and so did West at least this was the score with a minute left in the game. A great hustle goal by Tanner at the end won it. LC deserved better as they had more possession and better chances.
  14. West will beat LC at home without Jack. West is better but one has to wonder what is up with this team. Bearden will win against Maryville in a close game. Bearden is a better team right now but are playing mids as forwards. Maryville always plays hard but when I saw them against Catholic not as good as I expected. Bearden better look out in that Maryville has a lot to prove right now. Catholic can not play Farragut straight up. They do not have the quality, experience or depth to hang. It will not be close. Catholic should come out with a defensive formation man marking Stinton with one of their two center mids that play club ball with him and know him, take his left foot away and force him to his right, and must not allow him the ball or those great runs he makes to the box that cause all kinds of problems. Catholic should rely on counters and deadball situations to manufacture a couple goals and hope for the best. Farragut should win but do not underestimate Catholic to tie if they play smart.
  15. As a local soccer fan, I would like to congratulate the Bearden High soccer community for another great tournament. Bearden appears to have another strong team well supported by coaches and parents. Good luck.
  16. Catholic 2 Cordova 0 at Catholic.
  17. Good physical game with Valley having a better first half and Catholic the better second half. Valley hit the post in the first half. Catholic started better in the second half and kept possesion but Valley scored on a great individual play when their player beat at least two Catholic players in the box and finished as the Catholic keeper was coming out. Shortly after that Valley was awarded a free kick close to the sideline and the Valley player that took it, hit a beautiful curving free kick in the Catholic goal mouth. The keeper went for the ball caught it and collided with a Valley player in front of the goal. The keeper dropped the ball and the Valley player scored. Catholic's defenders asked for a foul on keeper and the linesman agreed. I am not sure whether the linesman raised his flag before the appeal. I did not see a flag. The ref consulted linesman and disallowed the goal. From then on it was all Catholic. #14 for Catholic beat two Valley defenders in the box after a throw in, took it to the line and turned in towards the goal with a bad angle. No one came to cover. He pretended he was going to pass it back and drilled it in the near post scoring Catholic's first goal. Catholic continued the pressure and Catholic's central midfielder #14 again scored with a well hit shot from outside the box. Catholic was able to hold on for the win. Good win for Catholic in their first game in the big division. Very impressed with Valley with a lot of speed and depth. #11 for Valley a really good player with good speed and flair. They also have a number of other good players. Catholic will need to develop some depth for the rest of the year, but they played well and with a lot of heart in the second half. Good luck to both teams. I am sure they will both do well.
