  1. I think this whole topic is meaningless. High school teams have become purely recreational. This seems to sentimental, I would prefer a high school coach that prepares my daughter to play in college. The reason no coach is responding is because this thread is ridiculous. People care about wins and preparing for college. What else is to get?
  2. I think Thursdays match came down to three things: 1) The Bearden setter is a once in a decade type player. She makes mediocre hitters a rel threat. 2) Farragut is one dimensional, if their two hitters get stopped they panic. 3) The Bearden supporting players finally showed up and supported their leader with passing and blocking. Tuesday will be about pride. Farragut has a much better team, but the don't have a player the caliber of the Bearden setter. She is special. Can she repeat! I think she can! PhillyAI, do you regret your decision now that Bearden is going to make a run at the State Tournament!
  3. Knoxdoyles you are correct. Last night her supporting cast came up big with passing and blocking. I am excited to death about waiting for this game. Farragut I am sure is ready too play TONIGHT! I predict a packed house for round 2!
  4. Other topic is where the talk about this match, match of the year, is happening so move it over! The Bearden setter may be the best to ever play in Knoxville. Finally her teammates showed up to help her last night. I believe she will lead Bearden to another win over Farragut on Tuesday. With her leadership she can take them a long way. This one is at Bearden and you bet they will be out in force.
  5. If the players will support the setter like they did last night Farragut is in trouble.
  6. Lay off. I am actually predicting a Bearden win in 4. Their setter may be the best to ever play in Knoxville. She just hasn't had any of her team step up and help. If they will show up and play she will do the rest. I think the rematch is good for volleyball. I quarantee Farragut wishes they had a setter of her caliber. I am still interested in PhillyAI take on the match.
  7. This is also a test of KVA vs K2!
  8. Wow, cannot wait for the regional finals to see Bearden vs Farragut the rematch. I think Farragut lost there confidence and Bearden, at home, will win in 4. The Bearden setter is one of the best to ever play in Knoxville. She has carried the team all season, and the MB finally stepped up to help and played lights out against Farragut. I actually thought she should have been MVP, but you can't blame a dad lobbying hard for his daughter, and based on what she has done all season it is more of an acknowledgment for great play! PhillyAI, what are your thoughts on the rematch?
  9. I agree 100 percent that the Bearden middle should have been MVP! But you had to expect that it would go to the coaches daughter as much as he pushes her. I think Bearden wins the Region in the finals in four. Getting to play against your rival in your gym should be fun.
  10. Bearden is loaded with talent, but under performed all season. Farragut got caught looking. Who do you think wins in the finals? My pick, Bearden in 4, Farragut lost alot of confidence.
  11. If the Webb coach had the Farragut girls or the CAK girls it would be time to banner shop. Still, Farragut won't drop a game till the State tournament.
  12. What changes are the players. Karns had a good group, they graduated. Why expect any different?
  13. With the tournament this week I thought it would be fun to make predictions. Privates: Webb has no opposition until the State Finals. Expect alot of trophies from the best coached program in Knoxville. A - Grace Christian won't be challenged until the state playoffs, but I don't know if they are a threat to win. Easy District championship. AA - This one is fun. CAK and Catholic will both make the sub-state, the other district is not competitive. On paper CAK shouldn't lose a game, and Catholic shouldn't get within 10 points. But...Catholic is well coached, and CAK plays flat. I am not going to predict an upset, but it wouldn't surprise me, which is sad. My prediction, CAK in three, too much size and talent. AAA- Farragut won't lose a game. The only school that has this much talent is CAK. The battle is for second. Bearden should win, they also have a lot of talent. But...they way under perform. I could see an upset. Hardin Valley Academy is playing well, and I predict they finish second. In the other district it will be between Oak Ridge and Anderson County. On paper it is OR. They are senior heavy, AC plays freshman and sophs, and have players out. OR beat AC earlier in the year, and went undefeated in district play. But...AC is playing well right now, beat Catholic to finish out the season, and somehow they seem to be playing well. Still, OR is having a great season. (Maybe its because Orcat hasn't been on here this season?). I predict OR in four!
  14. Just stating facts. Read it how you will.
  15. I am impressed. I saw AC at the early bird, and did not think a team with few club players, that was so young, was capable of getting to be this good over the course of the season. It must be in the water. AC would be the one team I wouldn't want to play in an elimination game.
  16. I agree with Philly on this one. There is zero excuse for this behavior. But it is the culture of many (not all) high school coaches. Some coaches are interested in making money off the sport either thru owning a club or groups like the one in west knoxville that make money off of elementary school girls, some want their go boosted by being a coach, and some (few ) do it for the right reason. The behavior you describe is a high school I wouldn't play for.
  17. I agree, especially atCak Farragut and Bearden. I think Webb has a great coach.
  18. What is sad is that four the last four years they have had great talent to surround a 6 6 player. I agree with the above posters about "over" coaching and the total lack of energy. Look at Catholic. They LOVE playing and it comes from the coach. It has to be about the girls, and letting them play.
  19. I will not engage with EBETHER. I never said you were arrogant, and do not appreciate the tone. I do agree 100 percent with the above few posts. The CAK coach way over coaches and he and the team look like they are miserable when they are playing a game that should be fun. They have been loaded with talent, and more important size, and have underperformed the last couple of years. Catholic, on the other hand, is a joy to watch. They have fun, their coach encourages them, and they don't have near the talent. If the Catholic or Webb coaches had these girls think what they would do! I think the CAK coach is a good man, and I think he is an ok coach, better than many here in town. I do think he gets out coached, frequently, and I think he is so controlling that it affects the girls. He never celebrates, or gets fired up, and the over coaching really seems to be designed to draw attention to himself.
  20. Yet EBETHER is already at State? Sounds like CAK should be focused on trying to win District first!
  21. Beach boy, I don't have specific numbers but I know that most clubs feature this information on their web pages. Also, there is a difference between an elite D-1 player and everyone else not just in volleyball but other sports as well. Several baseball players, especially pitchers, forego high school for club. Same with basketball. Football is different because they don't have travel teams. As to burnout, a good club program will keep the training fresh, to prevent burnout. Bratman, those numbers for Anderson County are impressive. I just don't know their coaches except for the one that was with PR. As I have posted before, they are alot of fun to watch and a bear to play because of the energy and intensity they bring every match. They are certainly an exception and not the rule. I still stand by my premise.
  22. I love this debate. Brahman, I do not consider Anderson County a Knoxville team. As I have said before what they do year in and year out without having many, if any, club players is impressive, but they are a HUGE EXCEPTION. I don't see them play that often but they bring high energy and intensity to the court and don't seemed to ever be intimidated by anything. Yes, it can happen, but I stand by my statement that an elite player should not play high school and focus on developing her ability in a premiere club. There are two sophomores in Knoxville right now that are D-1 players, if they work hard. They are wasting time on their high school teams that could better be used training for the club season. They also risk burnout. I will predict that if they play their junior and senior years they will not get a D-1 scholarship.
