In response to ghouse's post above. 1) I agree completely on this. Also on that subject I witnessed this weekend too many wrestlers to even count apply legs on top and flatten their opponent out. They would sit there and do nothing other than keep their opponents face buried in the mat and look up at the ref and gesture that the bottom man is stalling. Its like som e of our refs have never wrestled before and are being tricked. Its my understanding that the top man has to come off the hips and try to turn his opponent. I know there is a fine line and its a judgement but if the top man gets both legs in and just sits there with no progress made and he doesnt attempt anything else then in my opionion its stalling on the top man. We dont allow wrestlers to ride a tight waist ankle the whole period so why do we allow them to do it with legs? 2) This is also a very good point. Its such a problem that now a lot of bottom wrestlers are standing up, spreading their legs wide and holding their hands in the sky looking for a stall call and they get it in a matter of seconds. There was a case like that tonight in the finals. Im not sure which match but it was a horrible call. refs need to see the other guy is just trying to get a stalling call and in fact he is not even trying to score himself. 3) the third one that chaps my hide is when a kid is clearly playing to the ref trying to get a stalling call and he pushes a kid out of bounds. This also happened tonight. One wrestler got an underhook and ran his opponent all the way across the mat. he was not trying to score, he was simply pushing his opponent out of bounds. There is a difference in backing up and someone running you out of bounds. This is not freestyle. We are making our matches extremley boring by allowing this stuff. Now a kid can get a takedown, push and shove and not attempt another move the rest of the match and win. We are reinforcing kids becoming masters of acting like they are wrestling but actually doing nothing. As far as Mosleys match, I thought it was a horrific call. I wanted a while to think about it before posting. Now that I am calm I can say in all fairness that was a horrible call that probably cost a young man a state championship.

i got stuck at work and wanted to keep up with the tournament online. It is way behind and doesnt show team scores. Its also like reading chinese. This isnt a knock on anyone volunteering their time but there are new methods out there of running tournaments that are a lot more fan friendly and easier on the tournament directors. Most top tournaments use Track wrestling now. Fans, wrestlers can keep up with bout numbers, mat assignments, scores, team scores , stats, ectt.. right from their phones, tablets or computers. It updates instantly. This is the state tournament but yet its like going back 15 years.Im not sure what the cost involved is to run it but its something like $150. You wouldnt need the big giant bout boards at the end of the arena. The kids could stay on the same mat, the parents would know where to sit all day and everyone can just watch for their bout number on the score clock by their mat. Its very simple and a lot more fan friendly.

Dang, first you blast the beloved Bcb and now you defend mikescott. You are backwards my friend. Now Im all for the underdog but I wouldnt call the C a small school. Not sure what the enrollment is for the small school division but i wouldnt have Hixson and Central in there. Small schools should be 500-600 kids to give the truly small schools a chance. I bet Pigeon Forge finishes higher than them though.

The question is , Will the C lay an egg like they did last year? Will they prove yet again they cant hang with the big boys even if they are self proclaimed to be a power house? Im predicting they finish in 16th place.

Im not sure I agree with tournament scoring sometimes. Take Popes score for example. They have 6 kids win it and 9 place. Cleveland has one champion and two more placers at 11 but is only 5 points back? I would have loved to see Cleveland win it so dont get me wrong. Im just wondering if we dont give award enough for winning a championship? What are everyone elses thoughts.

Looks like there were some great match ups and a few mild upsets. What were some of the other surprises along the way or good matches. In a tournament with this quality there must have been some other good match ups.

ok, Ill give you the size factor. its quite impressive Hooker wants to move up for a challenge. As far as everybody knowing d-I is tougher than d-II thats pretty funny. Its not even close when you are talking about the top kids. I bet Hooker gives him all he wants. Ill bet its pretty impressive for someone who should be 145-152. In fact Ill go out on a limb and say its a 2 pt match either way.

The new weight classes are the biggest travesty I have ever seen in wrestling. I am not opposed to raising the 103 weight class or even adding a weight class on the larger end. Doing away with a weight in the middle was the dumbest thing ever. That is where the majority of the kids are. This is tradionally your toughest weights and now they just got double as tough because in essence you have combined two weight classes. It made no sense what so ever. In fact I read a study and 140 lbs was the largest weight class in America by far. Why would you do away with that?

I was looking at that tournament in Mn that Baylor goes to. Wow! According to Win magazine the #1 St. Eds-ohio, #3 brandon -Fl, #5 St parish graham-ohio, # 6 Clovis Mn , #7 Carl Sandburgh -Il, # 9 Christiansburg Va, # 12 Apple valley mn, #13 Simley Mn . 6 of the top 10 teams in the Country with a bunch more in the top 50.

They still have some good kids returning. Connell, Ward, Westbrooks, their heavyweight also. Im probably forgetting some but I expect they will be pretty tough.
