  1. Right on stars. Avoiding the injuries is huge for us. I know it is every year, but when you don't have many holes to be filled, injuries can create those holes. Look at what its done to the best team in the state last year at any classification. It's unbelievable the path they are on right now. I still hope/think they will make alot of noise in November. As for us, let all the 1's and 2's play early, hopefully get a good lead, build for next year, and wind that clock.
  2. Agree again jake, except for the score. I'll say murvil: 68, bearden: 6.
  3. Don't worry jake, that's easy money for you. I meant coke for you. Our murvil pipeline is full all the way to the itty bitty rebs. Sevier County was lucky for the wet conditions. The field was in awful shape and it killed us. The dawgs will roll!
  4. Agree RR. Didn't that 0-4 team also have a great athlete at qb those first four games, before moving him to receiver? I may have my years mixed up, Was it wilkes?
  5. Good questions there nation. I will not take alcoa to win another title. Sorry tornado fans. I have no idea who is out there for them, but teams they have beaten in the past in the finals would beat this alcoa team. No idea on wb and T$$AA, but I hope it dies down for the betterment of all the parties involved. I will take murvil middle in the "showdown". Wait, where is the game being played/who paying the refs? LOL! I know how the murvil haters love to grab on that one. As for the peewee game, I would have to agree with gov man, there must be more to the story. That coach you speak of is the classiest guy in that organization.
  6. Sorry Stars. I don't really think it will go 23 overtimes. I did see the wb/central game. Wb looked good in that one. Too bad they cheated and had to forfeit. Maybe they will keep it going this week after their big win. I haven't seen hairtage play well yet, so it's hard not to talk bad after last friday night. Maybe they got more out of the game and can improve - they do have lots of room. If our mtn neighbors take offense to that, maybe we could talk about how good they would be if we hadn't stole their qb. That's always a popular topic! Good luck to both teams. I hope everyone stays healthy and it is a good competitive game.
  7. I saw WB against Jeff County and Hairtage against Murvil. I predict the longest game in history. I see a scoreless game with 45 turnovers going 22 overtimes with wb finally forfeiting due to injuries and running out of players. Those were two of the worst teams (in the 2 games I saw) imaginable at the 6A level. Maybe the defenses will score. Advice to their coaches: Don't throw it, a pick six may be the difference!
  8. I was at the game. Why did we score that many? I know it is more embarrassing to be on the losing end, but it was embarrassing to be on the winning side of that one. Is there some real bad blood that caused the murvil coaches to lose their cool? One of the most positive things about our program has been that we are not alcoa - we don't run it up. We were alcoa Friday night. Ouch - that hurts to say. I know hairtage was really bad, but there are many ways not to score 60+. It is hard to be proud of that game, and IMO, it should not have happened.
  9. As great a guy and coach as murvil has (noone should argue that), nobody should believe he is the only coach in town that tries to instill morals and values in young people. He is a football coach. He is not your kid's dad or godfather (with the known exceptions). Although I do not personally know the coaches at the other schools, I would bet my house they they too are trying to instill morals and values in the kids. Plus, we should not act like murvil does not have dui(s) or moral issues with current or past players/students. I know of at least one and the statute of limitations keeps anyone from coming after me! Kids are kids at every school. Experimenting and pushing the limits occur everywhere and even in almost every family. BULLETIN: Alcohol and drugs are a problem for teenagers - and murvil high is not immune to it. If every kid was kicked out of murvil due to the zero tolerance, I doubt our teams would be very good - but there would be plenty of parking. That goes for nearly every public high school. No doubt, we are lucky at murvil to have someone who cares. But so is alcoa, heritage, and wb lucky to have people who care. We should ALL hope for the best for ALL of these kids regardless of where they started school, or where they finish school. They are a part of our community whether it is nebo mtn, lower alnwick, gardenvale, or crosscreek. I wish the kid the best of luck and hope he gets to eventually prove himself right to any of us who doubted him.
  10. Thanks to both redrebel and wb04 for the info. It's a tougher decision than it was 20 yrs ago. Now there are coaches getting jumping around, UA/Nike/Adidas contracts, kids moving in from out of town/state, apartment costs, college prep/honors/advanced honors, and dual enrollment. That doesn't even include the fancy cars, fancy girls, increased dope, and preferential treatment of being an athlete (man, I wish I had some eligibility left!) I guess it is up to each parent to 'protect" his own kid and not depend on representatives from any school telling you something is ok. That part will likely never change. I know the 2 choices for a stud football player in blount county. If you had a kid(boy) who was a stud in basketball, where would you send him? What about baseball? What schools will still allow you to play all 3? What schools discourage it? If it wasn't for the ego's, I would ask which school had the best science/math programs. Then again, we are in East TN! LOL!
  11. Alcoa has 2 qb's that transferred from WB and AE. I know the WB kid played basketball, and I would assume the AE kid played some sport. Were both of these kids forced to move in order to be eligible? Did they have to move into the city of alcoa, or could they just move anywhere and then pay tuition? Can you still live in Knox county and pay tuition at alcoa or murvil?
  12. Typo in my previous post. Let me try again: Questions on eligibility: 1) If I live in the county and pay tuition (@ MHS) until my kid is a junior in high school (he did play jv football), can he then transfer the next school year to the school he is actually zoned for (WBHS) and be immediately eligible? Does the jv or varsity participation make a difference? Would I have to move down the street for him to be eligible for the school I live 3/4 of a mile from? 2) If I live in the city until my kid is a junior in high school (he did play jv football), can he then transfer the next school year to the county school he is actually zoned for (WBHS) and be immediately eligible? Does the jv or varsity participation make a difference? Would I have to move out of the city for him to be eligible for the county school? 3) I won't even ask about Alcoa, where it seems like everyone is eligible after a transfer!

  14. Thanks for the clarification hick. I had heard stories of potential tuition students being turned away, but I never really believed it. It is too crowded at the school and another school should be built, but that's another string. I hope we are strict enough to keep 3-4 spots open for some stud players.
  15. A bad situation from the start has now gotten worse. It is bad for the kid. Sounds like some adults have showed their clout (a$$). The post about an apartment in the city to save paying tuition; that does not sound very good for all involved. "Non-reduced" apartments are still more for a year than 2200 bucks. I hope that is only a rumor. Somebody better throw some water on this!
  16. Missed the jamboree, so I am relying on the reports. Congrats to the Govs for the big win. They do have a few players on that team that could play for anybody in the county. It is good to hear of their excitement and success. Hopefully, they can carry it into the season this year. Those 4 or 5 staying healthy will be a key. I hope the Rebels get it straightened out this week before Webb arrives. Nobody wants to get beat by a bunch of spoiled rich kids (or at least that is what is said about Murvil). I suspect Murvil may be reading each others' clippings too much. It is time to get to work focus on the goals for the upcoming season. None of our past gold balls or college visits mean much to our first two opponents - they have their own. They are likely using all of our publicity as motivation and a tremendous opportunity for their teams. Starting off 0-2 is possible and should not be ignored. From what I hear, we need to quit making excuses about who is playing and focus on doing our job on the field. JMO
  17. Every once in a while some kids may move in. It is rumored that it is just for the education - and only a coincidence that the kids are also very good in football.
  18. Stars, I predict (and hope) it is Fuller at LB. That group has not been as good as one might expect with all the athletes at MHS. This year's team should be very good. I'll go ahead and say it: If they don't win it will be because of coaching. It's never about our little all americans wearing the uniforms! How long until the opening kickoff? I understand its a doubleheader night so it should be a packed house.
  19. On second thought...I guess FHS doesn't have to hit it. Congratulations Eric on a great job pitching! Huge win for FHS. They have a real shot to win it again!
  20. I hear "Big Red" is throwing for FHS today. He is a very good soph - but still a soph. If they can win that first one today, I think they can piece enough together in the championship game. It will be interesting to see how many more RBI's Delmonico has a chance to get against Collierville. They gotta hit it!
  21. No, I was not being serious, but pretty funny that someone took it that way. And to be honest, I did have to ask a football parent for directions in Murfreesboro! MHS had a good team this year that played with alot of confidence in the district and regional tourneys. But...they played a little starry eyed at the spring fling. They could not make anything happen, get/make a break, or gain any momentum. Both Columbia and Arlington are good teams who appeared very comfortable in the situation. MHS did face 2 good pitchers, but 1 run in 2 games stinks. Therefore, two and done with a trip back to murvil just in time to start the summer workouts for football! There was nothin to be ashamed of, it was a good season for MHS. Got to watch a couple of games of Farragut. Their games were much more enjoyable without all the usual heckling. Their kids really compete. Yeah, Delmonico is a beast that you DO NOT PITCH TO, but their young players are very competitive. I hope they can win it all for our district. They have a really good shot, especially if the other coaches keep telling themselves that Delmonico isn't that good and believe they can get him out in tough situations. I guess no matter how much experience a coach has, he must see it to believe it.
  22. Not sure about that one Jake. Murvul was lucky to beat Farragut 3 times this year and extremely lucky to get by Norris and Science Hill. I heard their baseball team had to ask the football team for directions to Murfreesboro. They may just be happy to be staying overnight. I do wonder who the real favorite would be. Is it the young talented Farragut team? Who has the "shutdown" pitcher now that Pfeiffer and Norris are out? Surely the middle TN teams are very good. Who are some studs to watch play?
  23. I'm glad someone besides me brought up the student section. Yes, kids will be kids - if you let them. If they don't know how to act, their parents should keep them at home until they don't act like kids in public. They aren't 10 to 12 anymore. Most are driving and getting ready to vote, move out on their own, or (heaven forbid) being sent to the desert to defend our country. By the age of the kids I see at the games showing their ####, they should know how to act by now. Surely, they are not allowed to act that way at home, at school, at church, or anywhere else. If their parents are not there to "control" (bust their butt) them, then the AD's should escort them out. These ideas are not meant just for the FHS student section. I don't care if it's my kids or the governor's kids, they should be representing their family and school in the right way when at a game. It is possible to support your team (while riding both the ump and the other team) without taking away from the game. If a coach or an adult in the stands acted some of these "kids", they would either be escorted away or there would be a fight in the stands. IMO - When anyone in the stands becomes a distraction from the game itself, they should be forced to leave.
  24. Very good baseball game to watch. Congrats to FHS for winning the region and staying away from Norris at Science Hill. After trailing most of the game, they made enough plays to keep it close and then pull it out in the 7th. The E on the MHS 1st baseman was huge, but there was only one out and tying/winning runs could have still been driven in. Too many plays and chances in a close game to blame one play. Farragut was probably fortunate in the 7th, but MHS was fortunate with the 2 lasers Delmonico hit earlier in the game. FHS made comeback and deserved the region title. I'm new to the high school scene. Are these two teams good enough to have a shot in Murfreesboro? It doesn't look like either one of them hit it really great. Maybe it's that way all across the state in high school. I've always believed the old saying "you must have good pitching to get there, but when you get there, you better be able to hit it because everyone has good pitching". After watching these teams play 6 times this year, I wonder about the hitting. Thoughts?
  25. ADGRAD, I know nothing about the local high school coaches, just a little about the players. FHS does play several young players who are already very good. I agree with you, they will continue to be a contender for many years, just maybe not a favorite every year. IMO - some teams play to win, others play expecting to win, and others play and hope to win. It is usually not very hard to see which group a team fits into, and most champions definitely play to win. With the young players, sometimes they just expect to win. The young ones at FHS might have to learn the difference as they go thru the tourney. They definitely have a good shot to win it all again! Haven't heard about the elder statesman at Powell. It wouldn't surprise me for that to happen at alot of places in the coming years. More parents of young kids are holding their kids out of school until they are older. Those parents likely don't know the rule regarding 19 year old seniors. Both sad and funny.
