  1. I have heard that the DCA back is a special player and hope he has a good game. If any D2A school wants to beat Webb's system, they better have a passing attack that can score 28-35 points in 35-40 plays or less or you will never catch up. Your offense wont have the ball as many plays as you do in a regular game. Are there exceptions to that rule, very few.
  2. Reed and Walker for Haywood are very hard to stop. Each average around 9 per carry. Hardin will have to score atleast 28 points and hope for a turnover to stop Haywood. new QB can be efficient enough not to lose.
  3. looking forward to seeing how Liberty responds after the NS loss. Possible they practiced only 4 offensive plays all week until they can run them perfectly. Better be sprint out passes or Milan will win.
  4. 2 great coaches, Bowers and Massey, are great at exposing weaknesses of other teams. If there is a hole in the defense they will find it. My prediction is a a turnover late in the game decides this one and Baylor edges them out. Baylor should control the time of possession.
  5. Don't know that I can comment on this one because haven't been to a USJ-Scotts Hill ( I presume) athletic contest . I think it has been quite a number of years since they have played vs one another so your memory of elitist comments you have heard from the student sections must be keen. I simply was trying to keep the comments to the players on the field and not which fans can be the most obnoxious or rude. I respect that posters can comment on anything they want to but simply was trying to keep the comments about the game and the players/coaches involved.
  6. When these 2 teams face each other, it really brings out the worst in some of the players and some of the parents. I have watched these football and basketball games for years and neither school would be very proud of the actions and words of some of their players or parents for that matter. To judge who has been the worst is an impossible task. Completely impossible. But to think it is one sided is comical at best. This thread appeared to have started about game predictions and USJ clearly was the better team this year as they have been for the majority of this series ( I think its around 16-5) TCA won twice back to back a few years ago with some well coached teams with a great scheme and the athletes to execute it. The game is over, not everyone acted on their best behavior, some of the players played hard and rough and with a great deal of passion that spilled over into "not called for"…. but both schools are guilty, both students sections and players and parents are guilty. For whatever reason, USJ brings out the worst in TCA and their supporters. That may never change. Even if the coaches and parents sat down and talked with their kids about this topic, it may not matter in some cases for either school, because actions speak louder than words.
  7. USJ has a lot of talent, including Trey Smith, and a great group of smart and aggressive players who will do very well with Coach Bradley at the helm. Yes they will win a gold ball.
  8. IMO the top 5 for this season will be West heavy. Webb always in the top 5 in this group and then USJ, St. Georges, ECS, and Lausanne. SG plays Lausanne on 9-2 and ECS on 9-9 so after those 2 games the picture will be a little more clear. USJ is gonna score a lot of points this year. SG will rely heavily on one player for offense which can hurt in the long run, ECS and their platoon system will help them in the 4th quarter.
  9. Did not see this game nor could I find stats so asking an obvious question..Given the size of TCA why weren't the big men and low post utilized with the advantage. Were they trying for a shootout?
  10. Just looking at stats, TCA had one player with 120 total tackles. No other player is within 40 of him. He had 305 yards of the total offense of 405 yards avg per game.
  11. Northpoint is a solid football team top to bottom with great coaching from what I have seen. I think they will beat SGIS in the championship game.
  12. The Bears were ready to play. I am guessing SYS and the Memphis Bears training ground all the way down to Bantams 10 years ago helped build this solid unit.
  13. I agree that private schools have an advantage. Most, if not all, would admit to that. However the 1.8 multiplier was put in by the voting powers of TSSAA to negate that advantage. Has it accomplished that goal. No it hasn't with 6 classes of football. That is too many if the goal is to push privates to their own group. A successful football team is about support, coaching, hard work, dedication and player development. It doesn't matter if you are public or private if you do not have those things in place. Getting better and progressing is the key, not eliminating better competition. The open zoned schools with a history of winning will keep on winning and private schools with great coaches will continue to excel in any class you put them in.
  14. ….and to top it off it serves the best burger of any high school concession stand this side of the Pecos. #Trojanburger.
  15. wasn't leaving Lausanne or anyone out of the discussion, I was just commenting on the scores of 2 games to help solve the puzzle. 1) how good is Webb and FC and 2) USJ-BGA score will be the first East-West score for measuring stick.
  16. turnover margin is key to success in this game as looks to be a closer one than in recent years. I know its early in the season but the score of this game and the BGA-USJ score will be the 2 puzzle pieces to let you know how all teams in this division stand for the playoffs.
  17. scheduling such an easy team like JCM the Friday before this big game will probably hurt BA so I give the edge to Baylor. Hard to build momentum without playing tough test.
  18. Baylor has shown in first 2 games that it can score a lot of points. TEST of the year is this Friday. The weapons are there and should be a great game.
  19. i think the vote today will cause a big change in how open zoned schools operate. If the vote is yea or nay doesn't matter because there will be a reaction either way.
  20. When a QB transfers in from another state to take over duties and has very little ties, if any, to the schools and players, it will take awhile to gel and come together. Give it some more time. It just may work out. As for the game last night without the goofy fumble scoop and run by goldsmith and the poor play calling by passing on the USJ 20 with clock at 1:20 before half* (which resulted in an oscie), the score would have been 41-7. USJ was the better team and executed better as a whole. You may think that the purple team has better athletes on it as stated earlier in thread but that didn't prove true last night with straight line speed, tackling and stamina. That game is over and USJ won big and if both teams move on to the next week mentally they will both be better off. *newspaper stated usj coach marley said that play call was his mistake and his bad
  21. Have seen this Junior play several times and he has great feet and raw power which is impressive to scouts. Has offers to play anywhere he wants to go. I hope Bruins don't put him at NG on defensive side of the ball like I saw some last year.
  22. Information from their website says if you live outside the district you can still attend by applying to the school 2 weeks in advance and paying a tuition fee. This is basically similar with most open zoned schools. However the vote goes in July it well not level the playing field. It will separate public and private schools, but the open zoned schools will still have a distinct advantage over schools that play with only the young men and women that are assigned to their school district. If you want to get closer to "level playing field" then assign all open zoned schools a 1.8 multiplier and remove the "one level up" maximum.
  23. Top notch young man and an excellent student. Great family and support system that should enable him to continue on this great path.
  24. Looks like a pretty good basketball team. Will be really tested this saturday at CPA. They appear to have a lot of players who can contribute to the game.
  25. D2A playoffs start every year with only a small handful of teams that can actually win the State Championship. Only 4 teams have been in the title game in past 5 years ( USJ, SG, Webb, and ECS) . To beat the largest school Webb, you have to have several "breaks" along the way. I think USJ is the only division team to beat them in past 5 years. That year USJ lost to SG in the title game because SG made proper adjustments. Thats what they do best. Look for SG to baffle a team or two along the way because their staff preps and prepares and adjusts better than any I have seen in a while. ECS runs a lot of formations and sets and seems to shoot themselves in the foot to lose a big game. However this year they seem to be able to simply run more plays than other teams and are prolific in scoring. They have no star but they have a great balance and very skilled defense. Webb not as good this year as past years but still do what they do with a good crop of talented players. Are as vulnerable to an upset this year as ever before. However, losing to Baylor and other large schools seems to prepare them for spotlight battles. USJ finally has everyone healthy except lineman Reid and are ready to start the playoffs with all the players in place. They have had multiple 2 year starters miss key games earlier this year and the system didn't click. All are back and ready to score. BGA played Webb a very close game only to lose in final minute of regulation. However they scored 28 points on Webb so they figured something out and learned how to score. Scoring a lot of points is the key to dethroning Webb because they are going to score their 4 TD's on you every single game. BGA scores an average of 35 and given up 18 per game over the last 5 games of the season. That's why I do not think FC or DCA can get it done because they only scored 14 and 3 respectively against Webb in the regular season If your offensive system isn't capable of producing at least 29 points then don't expect to beat Webb. They will score 4 tds every game in this division and they don't throw so there is no pick 6's to hope for. Good luck to all the teams, and I hope that you have fun, hope that you sing while staring at the flag before the game. Remember to cheer loudly for your team, leave the refs alone, and tell every player and cheerleader, not just your own, that you are proud of their effort. Those few words to those kids will be never be forgotten by them.
