  1. the j sun reported score as 7-17. was there one called back or something?
  2. 8 state championships in football and half the teams in each division enter the playoffs with zero percent chance of winning it all. Does anyone miss the ole days when there were 3 state championships and for those teams that did not make the playoffs they could be invited to play in a local bowl game to help raise money locally and for charitable causes---Butter Bowl, Blues Bowl, Civitan Bowl, Tobacco Bowl, Gordon Browning Bowl, Industrial Bowl, Tiny Knee Bowl and many others. I know we all hate for a football season to end but surely it can end better than entering a watered down playoff system and giving your money away. How did all this madness get started?
  3. the below projections are based on detailed statisical analysis and projections with help of NASA computer. Harding vs Knox Webb, webb wins in the closest game of the 4-(Harding coach very savvy) FRA vs St George, SG wins by 15 Lausanne vs BGA, BGA wins by 15 DCA vs ECS, low scoring affair with DCA edging out a 3 pt win
  4. did you just sign up for coach t to post this comment. this is your first post right?
  5. unless the turnover ratio is in MUS favor then I don't think they can win. They will need one "gimme", if they can get it then "MO" will be in their favor and they will roll on to victory.
  6. prayers for an injury free game and that sportsmanship is paramount to all participants and fans. Hoping for a SG victory. They have an excellent coaching staff that will have them prepared to try and knock off the giant from the east. Thats a tall order all things considered.
  7. Before this is over, the whole thing may go down as one of the strangest/craziest/saddest things to happen in high school football. Hard to imagine a can of spray paint leads to the discovery of texting about stolen playbooks and hiring practice players.
  8. playing at home in the playoffs is always worth a touchdown, ecspecially with this distance. if webb keys on 21 then 20 will have to step up and score. From what i have seen he is capable. If you key on kelly, then melton has a free pass to the endzone because of his straightline speed. Can 20 do the same thing is the question? ECS has been soft on defense in years past but this year appears to be their best defensive team in a while so i give edge to ECS. Winner of this game clearly is the state champion.
  9. sling it and see what happens
  10. DCA with chip on their shoulder pulls this one out
  11. My guess is that SG will win. Excellent coaching staff always prepared and makes the most out of what they have. QB is smart and makes up for the youth of the other offensive players.
  12. My opinion is the vast number of aid students at Webb are not participating in the big three sports. Also... it is my opinion, Webb has far fewer aid athletes on their football roster than the majority of D2AA schools. I would much prefer the TSSAA create 3 divisions in D2, but until they do, I'm pretty sure Webb School will continue to play in the division they are assigned and choose not to play up. It makes no sense for them to do so based on what I have said previously. I don't like the fact that Webb's divisional schedule is so weak either. It makes for boring football games and gets old week after week with no disrespect to those schools. I'd like to see Webb challeneged more week-to-week but playing in D2AA would be suicide going up against the likes of Ensworth, BA, MBA, MUS etc. Is this quote saying that you can only win with a lot of aid athletes? I sure hope not. Taking the numbers provided earlier, Webb has average of 58 boys per grade. They have 35 on the roster and the guess was made that only 1/5 of the team is an aid athlete so that leaves 28 non aid athletes. This leaves an average of 7 boys out of 58 boys in each grade that play football as a non aid athlete. Webb's twofold goal is being a highly competitive athletic program and a program where participation is prized. I'm guessing the Webb football faithful must think the school is failing in that mission statement.
  13. In the past 17 seasons Mitchell has had 13 winning seasons. Very Impressive. In that same time span of 17 years TCA has had 7 winning seasons and Adamsville has had 6. Is that because of better competition, private v public, rural v metro, or does Mitchell just have a better football program. Dont know the answer but have heard good things about the Mitchell program and their pride. Dont ever under estimate Tradition.
  14. state elections are normally very close until the last vote is counted.. What i mean by that statement is you have large sections of the public that believe they are right and are cheering for the right person/team. A very large section of Tennessee high school football fans enjoy "their boys" climbing the ranks of local pee wee leagues and moving up to middle school and then freshman/jv and then on to high school. They pay their dues for their community and they earn the right to represent their local team. These kids will be around after they graduate and will come back and support the younger players and fans that helped cheer them on. Be it, Blue Devils, Green Devils ,Tornados, Tomcats, Chargers or whoever. The towns and local communities take pride in a kid giving it 100 percent even though they may not get the job done on certain fridays. That local pride and enthusiasm is a jewel that is better than being nationally ranked to a lot of people/teams/players/ and fans. Then there is a group of people that take great pride in being highly ranked and winning 95 percent of the time despite the fact that most of the fans will never see the players at all after they graduate. To each his own.
  15. a slice of humble pie, perhaps.
  16. Best of luck this season. hope new coach does well.
  17. apologies for offending with a not so well thought out post..
  18. over the past 5 years, only Webb(3), USJ(2), St Georges(2), ECS(1) Harding Academy(1) and Davidson Academy(1)have played in the state championship game. I m not saying that these have been the only competitive teams in this division but these are the only ones that have played for the gold ball. Davidson Academy has not been very comp in the past 3 years. Harding Academy seems to have solid players but underperforms in the playoffs as of late. This division certainly isnt big in numbers but there is some very good football played by the top teams and i believe that the top teams can play with anyone in the State on any given Friday but cannot do it for the course of the season because of depth. I predict that BGA and FC will be very competitive in the division. Until they play next season I just dont know if they will be competitive with the top 3 of the division.
  19. FC has been dominating in their division in years past. They appear to have graduated 10 seniors and of the 5 juniors that were listed on the roster, 2 of them were listed as kickers. That info may not be accurate as it doesn't come from the school official website. Looks to be a young team playing in the new division this year. Im sure they have a great football mentality though and the new competition will be welcomed. I just think the earlier posted 10-0 prediction may be too ambitious.
  20. Looks like predictions are that BGA and Friendship will come to this division and do extremely well right off. Havent looked at Friendship yet but BGA lost their last 7 ballgames and graduated 11 seniors. They had only 4 wins and none of which was against a team with a winning record. Say what you want about crossing divisions but losing is losing. Losing is as infectious as winning is. D2A has quailty football and i think people may be expecting a little too much from the 2 newest members.
  21. This statement is not well thought out and may be totally ridiculous but here goes.....In the past few years the 1.8 muliplier has not had any real effect on hs sports for the really good teams that it was designed for. Private schools should be in their own classification and then divided by aid/non aid schools for divisions......Then to be placed in the financial aid division of privates will also be any open zoned school that accepts kids from other school zones or counties. Then we could have little to fuss about on the chat rooms until 3 months went by and we could find another flaw in the system.
  22. IMO, the west is wide open. this year there is no standout team and you have 8 teams that can get a streak going. Payne of Lausanne, Skal from ECS, Bowling of FA and Pyron of JCS have great scoring ability and all 4 have capability of carrying their team through the tournament. Its been all about matchups in the games over here. SG has had some close games but seems to have lady luck at the end but is not a dominant team. Lausanne has best record.
