  1. They may say no, but worth asking....maybe SunTrust would take a name, address, and shirt size from donars. If they could put it in their system somehow, it would be available for you to pick up from SunTrust
  2. ERA makes some good points. The small communities suffer as does the HS coaches/programs who support and encourage player skill development outside of the "official" TSSAA season. Maybe we will not have to be concerned about this issue (and other silly anti-human rights rules) as a Supreme Court decision in BA's favor will bankrupt TSSAA. One has to wonder how the suit got so far along. Common sense should have taken over at some point. I guess it doesn't matter when egos are large and you're jeopardizing someone else's money.
  3. IMO, the primary goal of the TSSAA is to provide a level field of play for all their member schools. The student athlete is the pawn. You will know that the TSSAA truely cares about developing athletes when there is an athlete representative for each sport on the board of the TSSAA.
  4. ERA, That was a great post! You have a right to be very proud. Now as far as college teams and playing HS softball in the fall.... It is a competitive world. The competition is not limited to our particular little corner in Tennessee. Why is it that most colleges are going after players from the sunshine states? THESE PLAYERS HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE! THEY HAVE MORE PLAYING TIME! Does this matter to the TSSAA or to the local school administrators. No. Why not? Because all they are concerned about is following the established rules, reducing conflicts, and leveling the school ball playing field. It is not TSSAA's concern whether or not your little Susie or Johnny gets a college scholarship. IMO, TSSAA should have student/athlete representation to give the athletes a voice, but that's for a different thread. To summarize, to be competitive you need to play as much as possible. The best chance for good weather is in the fall. In Tennessee we are already behind because of our winters and the wet spring weather. I guess the serious baseball and softball players could move to California or Arizona.
  5. std, I agree...I can only speak about what happened at the Fling in 2002........but the "Ceremony" consisted of the Coach being handed a plaque.....oh yea, the Coach did get the poster board bracket that had been on the bulletin board.......the GIRLS didn't get ANYTHING! And as for missing Graduation.....my daughter and her senior teammates missed Graduation.....when we found out they would be playing and not able to make Graduation......one of our sophomores Dad's drove home that day.......got their caps, gowns and diplomas and had them at the game that night...after the game the girls put their caps and gowns on over dirty ball uniforms and we had Graduation......Coach presented each girl their diploma at home plate.......they wouldn't have had it any other way. My daughter had said all along, she didn't intend to be at Graduation, she planned to be wining a State Championship! Ms. Dropball

    Tssaa Bracket

For some reason TSSAA hasn't updated the AAA bracket Someone correct me if I'm wrong Beech vs Soddy Dickson Co. vs Farragut Knox Central vs Collierville Germantown vs Blackman
  8. Way to go Creekwood (AA) and Dickson County High (AAA). Hard to imagine two teams from the same County going to State in the same year. Who would have thunk it? Good Luck to you both.
  9. I thought Goodloe was from Lick Skillet?
  10. I know Dickson County made it to the finals versus Jackson Central Mary. Did Dickson County win? Was the surprise of the evening....Waverly over Goodpasture? Great weather, good facilities, and some very good games.
  11. Why couldn't you "let it go" with the first six sentences? That would have been very positive statements for a good program. The truth of the matter is, Dickson County probably beat your team and you have some sour grapes. If you are truly upset about vulgar fans, why bring Dickson, or any particular team, into it? Dickson County doesn't have a lock on vulgar fans. Your motives are clear. Dickson whipped your tail and you have to trash them with the poor behavior association. Shame on you! Trust me, you could have made your point without mentioning a particular team. You could have been been above the negativity by just posting the first six sentences. But, you didn't .....
  12. Is it time to bring back the "Softball in the Fall" thread?
  13. A full house in Dickson got their monies worth tonight. What a great game between two great teams. It went 10 innings. Both pitchers pitched super! With Dickson's pitcher only a soph., look out for them next year. Good luck to Hickman County in the State!
  14. Great new ladies...we're all proud of you !!
  15. How are Nancy and her family doing and what happened?
  16. Congratulations Coffee County Lady Raiders on your tourney win at the Tom Corbitt Tournament! Ms. dropball
  17. ERA, The biggest thing about "The Big Guy" is his ever running mouth! His story gets bigger every year. Pretty soon I'll be blamed for the poor weather, the economy, the Columbia disaster, and who knows what else. 1. It has been way over blown. If "The Big Guy's" offense had scored a run, we wouldn't have gotten beat 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. 2. The wind picked up at the wrong time and the pitch did not go as far out as it should've; hence the home run over center field fence. 3. I think the twins switched jersys! 4. I just gave a suggestion of what to pitch; he was the head coach sending in the pitch. He had complete authority to override the "suggestion." Besides, I think he messed up the signal into the catcher and used me as a convenient scapegoat. See, this is another reason to have the catchers call their own games....reduce the whining and blame between the coaches.
  18. Wow, this is a good post. There have been many good comments made in support of each position. However, no one can deny that the best spot in which to evaluate pitching is right behind the plate. Every coach must rely on the information provided by his or her catcher. How much more difficult is it to teach and train the catcher to make the correct call? Now this will only work with catchers that can handle the extra responsibility. Just because they are "teenagers", doesn't mean they can't handle the job. As far as experience, after catching just a few games of a particular pitcher, a catcher should know what pitch works and what pitch doesn't. Game situations can also be taught. Just as ERA stated, I think there should be a good balance and shifting of responsibilities depending on experience, game situations, and maturity. Coaches who let their catchers call pitches should stay alert to avoid catcher predictability and routines. Yeah, there could be a game or two lost because of bad catcher decisions, but that is part of the learning process. Just make sure you're still playing on the last day! Besides, coaches have never lost a game, have they? Then again, you could have the father of the pitcher stand behind the backstop and call the pitches......
  19. Dickson should do fine in their district. Getting out of the region will be another story. Dickson has been strong for several years, but always seems to struggle against the 9AAA runner up. One thing they do not want to do, is to play Beech at home! Did Beech lose any home games last year? Yep, it is too late for the po' mouth from Dickson. Every body knows you this year.
  20. Actually there are a few ASA 18U B teams around. If I'm not mistaken, a team out of McNairy Co. won the Nationals in 2001. May have been 16 U; don't remember for sure (getting old). However, Clarksville usually has one or two ASA 18U B teams.

    Catchers

Dickson County's Fallon Felts is one of the best catchers in the State. She had a good year last year, and did a terrific job in the State Tournament. Unfort. catchers don't get the recognition they deserve.
  22. Very good points, FPFanatic! It is all about support in every form and area!
