  1. Word in the LA is that the boro DC had one of the first shots at impressing
  2. I hope his attitude toward metro has changed, when he was at Fr Ryan he bashed it left and right and swore up and down he would never go back...
  3. Still don't really understand what happened at HL, they were a good, tough squad when Campbell was there. Really fell off the cliff immediately after he left. Don't know if it was the hires made after Campbell or a complete loss of players or a combination of both but it is odd to see a program fall that hard that fast. Clearly he had something going where he got players out and playing hard that hasn't been duplicated since he's been gone, just hard to imagine the talent level dropping that fast there but it can definitely be the case.
  4. Highlife it doesn't, clearly BeefyStew has an agenda to get across. Wonder if Stew has a Beef with the staff there or is/was a part of it. Him and Pplecat seem to be very high on a coach that has been a part of 3 staffs in 2 years and from what I heard is well on his way to number 4. Shame of it is instead of thinking he has all the answers he probably could have contributed significantly instead of bad mouthing every staff he's been a part of and pumping himself up. Coaching is a tight knit community, word gets out real fast, should never try and burn roads and should never lose sight of professionalism and that is about the kids not feeding your own ego. As to Overton, whoever gets it is walking in to the best or second best job in metro (Hillsboro being the other). I will be very interested to see how this plays out and if it effects any other schools directly.
  5. This should get interesting. Ayedollot is interesting if for nothing else his name. I still don't see why he would want to get back in to metro coming from Rutherford where you have people that take care of your field, strong boosters, a long list of capable assistants, etc. While Campbell had success at HL, I would think if it was him he would have been coined the HC in waiting or the open application process would not have been this long. I highly doubt McPhail for a few reasons, if he was it why wouldn't it already be known and he bounced out of Antioch to the privates and from what I know was "above" metro while the times were good. I don't know your guy well Run (Morrison) but I would lump that in the same category as Campbell, seems like a long dog and pony show to go through for an in house guy. What I know of Gore, he has done a lot to build the structure of the program of McGavock and tries to do right by the kids. I also know he is highly regarded in coaching circles and with administration. His record is what it is but McGavock has rarely if ever been a "good" program (I think when it first opened), have some theories on that as well but I'll share those if someone has a metro thread. The good thing about Overton for whoever gets it is (assuming they stay) there seems to be a solid core of assistants already in place. That is something that is hard to get in metro especially, unfortunately some guys have to fill their staffs with stipend takers or with guys who bounce from place to place. I have experienced and heard stories of guys who do the bare minimum but can't be fired and guys who are actively unprofessional and only looking out for themselves but keep landing jobs because it's so hard to fill staffs in Metro, hard to build and maintain with that.
  6. Ayedolott isn't leaving Rutherford for Metro, been there done that knows the daily struggles so I am with you RTB. I think you all may be on to something, definitely fits the profile the Principal is looking for.... should create another nice domino effect.
  7. Here's the link...didn't say specifically who is on his committee, assuming that he may contact those early influences though and seek their input. Could be way off but all signs point to an HC experienced guy (so I HIGHLY doubt any first timers as you would expect with the Overton job as it is a quality metro one) and probably a guy either in the system or who has experience in the system. As you know, it is a unique scenario in Metro. https://sportsnashville.wordpress.com/2013/12/24/principals-have-more-control-over-metro-coaching-carousel-in-recent-years/
  8. I agree, no McPhail, no Campbell (although Campbell would not be a terrible option, clearly did something right at HL). I'm thinking this hire creates another hole at HC, that is the way of the coaching profession, particularly our good buddies at Bradford. Read an article about who the Principal holds in high esteem and alluded to members of his committee, would expect the new hire to have direct connections to the old guard of Brunette and Tribue.
  9. Overton is a solid job despite the challenges. On staff, Campbell is the only one I'd consider and that would be if he's above the other applicants. Former Antioch/fr Ryan coach would not be a good fit at all... I do expect some solid applicants, we will see how it works out.
  10. Wasn't quite 34-30 but close game nontheless, congrats to both teams. Hope the Overton boys keep their heads up, special season.
  11. Obviously losing him 1st game of the season is a big loss but 1) it was the first game, adapt, and 2) "anytime you lose a 5-star athlete it's kind of difficult"...how many high school teams period have 5 stars? This was not the Beech of the recent past but big win for Hillsboro
  12. "If" they beat Riverdale? The same Riverdale that a mediocre Cane Ridge smacked around? We get it, you think Rutherford is the cat's meow...Overton has done what they had to do against their district schedule (isn't Hillsboro still playing too?) and beat some solid opponents in their out of conference schedule. All of this "they wouldn't do this" talk is ridiculous, just like SEC fans talking about how terrible A&M and Mizzou would do in their conference. Not the only commonality between Murfreesboro and SEC, when your team is garbage just jump on the band wagon of the best team that beat them but I digress. Fact is, Overton is a pretty darn good team, has had a special season, and has just enough players to "make some noise." Terry is going to run his power scheme, feed his hosses, play his under defense and let the chips fall as they may. I have the utmost respect for him keeping them together and successful especially with all of those other options right in the same neighborhood. I don't know how long Overton will go, no one does, but I hope they keep winning. Even if they don't, only 16 teams left in 6A and they are one of them.
  13. Is this a serious comment? 4-6 and should be in? They are not good and should not be in the playoffs...maybe by your rationale TN should stop the season after week 8 and have everyone play in the tournament so that playoffs lose whatever meaning they have left.
  14. I get what you are asking but can a 5-5 team be considered best? Quite frankly 5-5 don't deserve to be in the playoffs unless they have played and beat unbelievably tough competition (which last I checked, no TN teams outside of a game or two play a national schedule that would fit that criteria). There are other states where 7-3, 8-2, and sometimes even 9-1 teams have been left out, where making the playoffs is actually an accomplishment but in TN the first round has become the equivalent of the Kroger Discontinued Canned Goods Bowl where everyone gets to play for a money grab, competition be darned.
  15. Honestly dude? You are that bothered by a lowly high school forum that you are throwing around your "resume"? It's pretty hard to believe that a "college coach" who is so in tune with coaching the finer points of the game has this much time for defending his awesomeness online. I have been to multiple places and on multiple levels, funny thing is the number 1 thing that wins games is talent. After that is coaching. Level is pretty much related to who you know and how you recruit, with out a doubt those are the top two qualities out there for a collegiate assistant. I have seen college and high school coaches that are savants, mentally playing on another level and can COMMUNICATE their knowledge to players. I have seen college staffs that have guys who aren't very good coaches but can talk you out of your first born hence the reason they have a position, they can recruit. I have also seen former pros and college guys really struggle at the high school level because they don't have the natural talent base to work with and have a rough time conveying it to average athletes. I don't know the guy from Kentucky Christian, do know it is a small school, do know their head coach was a long time high school guy just like multiple of their coaches...mind boggling since HS guys are clueless. Gus Malzahn and Art Briles are really struggling to adjust to the game, can't wrap their small knowledge base around those overly complex schemes. As far as the value of high school coaches in the eyes of college, you may have that view that they can't learn anything but I have had many conversations with coaches interested in learn from whoever they can. Good luck dominating the football world, questionable how important you actually are to your alleged program, your humility is astounding and really draws others in, should serve you well in building professional relationships.
  16. Sounds like the cards are in place then, just have to get buy in (which being a young school and a new coach shouldn't be too hard) and work the "process" (I hate that phrase but it is what it is, winning won't be an overnight thing, have to take it in increments). Good luck.
  17. I don't doubt the positives at the middle school and I believe that is definitely a huge plus but most coaches I have spoken with don't put much weight at all in youth football. Some absolutely hate it, unfortunately it sometimes creates bad feelings about football and can foster "superstars" that don't take to coaching very well and get passed by their peers. I have no experience in wilco so maybe their system is different but I have had few and far positive encounters with youth football....the rare ones that have been positive are coaches that "get it," that that level is about fun, fundamentals, and getting kids to love the game. Without those guys youth football is worthless and unfortunately sometimes counterproductive at the high school level. Now that my rant is over, how is the talent pool at Summit now? How about the administration? Will they work with the coach? I would imagine there will be very solid interest in this job especially since I just saw it posted on a national football website.
  18. Definitely do. They are doing a great job and I hope they keep it up.
  19. I understand where you are coming from but here's some insight 1) 3a and 4a schools can ride a few talented kids a lot further then 5/6a schools can, the impact of a team full of average to above average kids is far higher at these large schools so depth is extremely important at the higher levels because you are playing at/on a higher level. 2) The numbers at a school like McGavock don't really represent the "football population" at those schools. How many of those kids are from cultures that play football? How many are eligible? How many of their zoned kids are attending the various privates in the area hence leaving them without all of the "athletes" that people assume are walking around the halls at metro schools. Take in to consideration that kids can open enroll to Wilson county (right down the road), and the multiple privates right there in the city (don't neglect the smaller schools like DCA and Ezzel, those numbers start to add up). 3) While some of these kids have tough situations the biggest deterrent in my opinion is a lack of a consistent model. We all know football takes dedication, how many of those kids see a consistent model of hard work being rewarded? That is far more important then the rough backgrounds we always allude to, which are not as prevelant as some would like us to think. So what you get are Maplewoods and Pearl Cohns that have a much better chance at winning year in and year out then the 5a/6a programs, it is very difficult to build a large school program in a climate like metro's. It just isn't a priority from the top down and what model of success are you going to follow? Is it possible, sure for a few years, but sustainability is very unlikely.
  20. Exactly and not at all. I am no metro basher, I know what SOME of those coaches do and I genuinely want metro teams to do well. The fact of the matter is Aydelott did absolutely nothing at Hillsboro until the talent got there. He would have been the same type of coach people bash on here had there not been a couple of classes that came in and made things better. Is Aydelott a good coach, sure, when he has superior talent. When he has even talent he is a mediocre coach at best, this is not an opinion, this is looking at his track record. People often neglect that he didn't win until he had a surplus of talent that was unmatched, when that first wave came through the flood gates opened due to open enrollment. His last year he was what, 500? I don't believe all of the flak he has taken through out the years has been warranted, I do believe he has faced some issues unseen by Rankin. However, if he doesn't get this year turned around I can feasibly see Riverdale making a change and not really questioning it, sometimes it's time for a change.
  21. http://www.tullahomanews.com/?p=17736 Seems McGavock put on drives, not just busting big runs. I know they were playing with their back up QB in the game, that's a great comeback for them hopefully they can keep it up and make some noise this year. Overton won against Ryan as well, big wins for the metro teams.
  22. Good for them, I hope it translates on the field. Jay Gore has done more for that program then most coaches and far more than outsiders understand. He is doing everything he can off the field to make the program better and obviously is doing due diligence on the field. Best of luck to the Raiders.
  23. Hillsboro, Overton/McGavock/Cane Ridge, Antioch, Glenclif, Hunters Lane, Hillwood Honestly see Overton/McGavock/Cane Ridge as toss ups. All 3 of those schools played each other tight last year and Overton McGavock have been close the last 3 or 4 years so those are all 1 possession games. Everything I've heard from the Hillsboro camp leads me to believe they should be top in the district. I haven't seen the DE but he has made some impressions on the guys that matter, their offense will be tough with Clayton there. Cane Ridge is far and away the most talented school in metro 6a/5a but they have been pretty much since their inception so we will see. Will be interesting to see how their out of conference goes, that could determine their season. They need to fill the QB position but he missed a some last year so there is some experience. Their OC is a solid coach so I don't doubt he'll have it together and will use his athletes. Overton was relatively young last year and you know what you are going to get from a Terry Anderson team. Tough kids, same scheme, tough team year in and out. McGavock was young as well, they played pretty much all underclassmen at the skills besides QB last year. Heard there are some coaching changes over there but Gore is a good coach and Moreno is running the D which is a role he thrived in at HL. I also heard Antioch lost some not only in graduation but also to transfers, not sure if those are just rumors or if there is truth. They do bring back their QB and RB but how many linemen did they lose? That was the strength of their team, losing your big guys when you are run 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is tough to overcome but year 2 in the option could hide some of that. Glenclif is Glenclif, they will have some athletes but not enough to compete. Hunters Lane meteoric drop is still baffling to me, do not see a turnaround in their future especially with the principal and I'm not a big fan of the HC hire over there. Hiring a losing coach who changes jobs quickly to turn around a losing program typically isn't a recipe for success. Hillwood had some talent last year but it all graduated. If they ever had a chance to make some noise it was last year. I know Metro doesn't have a high profile but the top 4 or 5 should make for some quality games, good players and coaches but like the rest of city schools across the country, lack of depth.

The student population in Metro is so transient they don't care, it isn't hard to get an apartment over a few blocks. I know of multiple student athletes that played for more than one metro school and never sat out.
  25. Wait, sorry for being slow.. So Antioch offered him and he took a different job? That's rough for Antioch but not necessarily their fault...maybe the guy was a good interview, they thought was the real deal, and he backed out last minute. The real question is who do they go to now? Anyone know for sure if the two in house guys applied the first time around? It is a shame that they don't have anyone yet and yes, it will help Cane Ridge but let's not act like Metro is the only place that screws this up. Anyone remember Ravenwood the last time around? It's partially what happens when you have non-athletic minded people making decisions with far more implications then they care to recognize and unfortunately it's part of the coaching world, sometimes guys get multiple offers and have to make a decision.
