Very surprised that MJ Brown was not nominated. I have not seen Williams from Culleoka but have seen McMasters from Grace. It is ashame that players can be penalized by lack of production, but MJ does not play the entire game. I do not know a lot about the others that were nominated. Can really only compare to McMasters, and MJ outplayed him two years ago in the state championship game.

P & G, doesn't it get old when everybody feels that they have some sort of expert opinion on these young athletes? MJ, even for his size, is a man among boys. Pound for pound he is physically dominating. It does not matter what and how you explain it to the so-called experts MJ is never going to be deserving of his accolades. If he was playing 32 minutes a game and averaging 40 PPG Shane would be criticized for running up the score. I had the opportunity to see him play at the Battle of the State against Livingston Academy. This team has a similar make-up to UT in that the star player does not have to step up every night and carry the team. There is balance and continuity. Nobody wants to show up the other on the team. They all have a common goal and that is to hoist the gold ball In Murfreesboro come this March.

Polls are great because they definitely get the arguments started. I question the writer who gave Chattanooga Arts and Sciences a first place vote when they just got beat by Silverdale Academy. If the vote came from a Chattanooga writer they obviously do not cover sports. If it is from another part of the state I can understand some even though all you have to do is look at CoachT.com whenever you want. I can understand the vote for Manassas because of the amount of talent they have. Big game tonight at the Thunderdome. #1 Union City against #2 Humboldt. Man is 14A loaded (Lake County at #4)! I had an opportunity to see MJ Brown this past weekend at the Battle of the State. He would have to be a favorite yet again his play is limited due to the depth that Union City has. They are doing as they did last year by either slowing the tempo late in the game or simply have blown out their opponent. MJ will definite get more exposure being the reigning Mr. Basketball. P & G, had an opportunity to go with the family to see the Purple and Gold for the 1st time this year. They looked really good and was told that this team is not as good as last year's team. Was sorely disappointed with the lack of fans at the tournament. I sure thought this would be a good shopping trip for most of the fans. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":lol:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> We were sitting on the other side of the court from the benches and could hear Ben Woods folding the towels! Allen Arena is a really nice arena as well. There is not a bad seat in the house. Back to the game and was very impressed. Continued hustle is what makes this team click. They were again outsized and beat them on the boards all day. My wife and I noticed that LA had one kid that we think was a Matt Harris clone. He wasn't nearly as good as Matt though. Shane got a T early in the game and had a legitimate gripe. Officiating was not all that great considering the fact that this is supposed to be an elite tournament. Good luck to UCHS on Senior Night. It is amazing to see those guys as seniors. I know because my son would have been a part of that Senior class (band) had we not moved to Athens. Yes, he was the player that left on a stretcher. He popped the ground rather hard. I have not heard anything this morning. Appreciate your's and the fans' concern. The field looked pretty good considering that it is also used for Freshmen and JV football as well as soccer. Should get a lot of time to recuperate because our last two games are away and almost a lock to not make the playoffs. Pretty sad when we should finish 7-3 and there will be teams that might only win 1-2 games and make the playoffs. Oh well, that is another topic of discussion that continues to be kicked around like the neighborhood dog. Your punter has to be getting a lot of D1 consideration. Great hangtime and distance on his punts. Pass coverage was a whole 'nuther story. No offense, but I must have seen a different game from yours as far as our pass coverage. We had way too many blown assignments as well as your receivers just simply running precision routes. Several times we were playing back way too far off the receivers, and your wide outs were killing us in the middle of the field. Some other teams may pick that up in the future, but we sure did not last night. I was impressed at how quickly we came out and scored in the 3rd quarter. However, we just could not continue to carry the momentum through the rest of the 2nd half. WB has an excellent team and the parity is definitely obvious in Region 2-AAAAA. Hey tribefan, talked to Cy Ables' uncle and they think he has a separated shoulder. Pretty tough considering that not only will we not make the playoffs but could delay BB for him as well. #63 that got ejected was not good either. That will cost him at least one game I believe. Or is it just for fighting?

Good comment about MCHS playing to their level of competition. It seems that way with most sports. Unfortunately MCHS cannot continue to do that with the region that we are in. We could easily not qualify for the playoffs even with the exceptional year that we are having. Very observant! Ran for the city school board last year and will give it another shot next year. Son plays in the band and I am VP of the MCHS band boosters. Other son is an alternate on the MCHS golf team. Daughter plays for the "middle school" softball team. Coach T, I was wondering if the April 28 game scheduled between Union City and Wartburg at Oakdale is an actual game to be played. I would like to attend this game since my alma mater (Union City) will be over in East Tennessee. Could you get me some information on this? Thanks, bhhvols

How do you know they feel like morons? Did you speak to someone that voted for MJ.? Be greatful that your team won the State Championship. I assume that you are a Temple supporter.

Agree! Look what MJ did as a sophomore especially in the State Tournament last year. That is where he began to get the recognition. He simply got better and had an opportunity to show his stuff this year. He was still the goto guy on a very balanced team. This is dejavu I do believe (Stanley Caldwell in the early 90's and his Mr. Basketball awards along with the possibility of a State Championship next year for MJ)?!

The decision is not based on what they do in the State tournament. MJ played on a team that was 12-15 deep. His numbers obviously are not "normal" Mr. Basketball numbers, but he definitely showed what he could do when he played in an entire game (i.e. Humboldt in Regional tournament). He had 32 points that night. Congrats to MJ and his family. Way to go Big Red (Marshall)!
