  1. You should give the Otero boys a call if you haven't already...
  2. Was awesome seeing those guys last weekend bring it home to Chatt town. Feel really bad for Manny though as he should have been joining them in St. Louis... CHATTANOOGA STRONG!!!
  3. We do, because it wasn't so long ago that you guys used to pound us every year during the annual pre season scrimmage game. Our starters could hang neck & neck with you guys (as you & I have talked about before), but once it got to the 2nd stringers it was OVER...
  4. Maybe a few folks should pick up on the fact that I said I hope High does well, so I'm not entirely bashing him. I simply stated he's not as good as Patton & YES I did plan on stirring the pot with this thread. That's what CoachT is for, right? In regards to players from Maryville going to D1 schools, Aaron Douglas, Brad Hilshire, Chuck Prugh, Nick Black, Gary Tucker, Brent Burnette, Isaac Simerly, & a few others come to mind who you seemed to have left out. As far as Maryville QB's, you can't forget Toki McCray. As a Mr. Football runner up, he went to NC State & was projected to start as a RS Freshman after Jamie Barnett graduated. Unfortunately his HC got canned right after losing their season finale to UNC, the school brought in Chuck Amatto from FSU, & then they signed Phillip Rivers who came out of high school as a Sr. to participate in spring practice. The 2 battled it out for the starting QB role under the watchful eye of Norm Chow for 2 weeks, but there aren't many QB's better than Rivers even on the NFL level so we know who won that battle. McCray went on to transfer to Eastern Kentucky & did just fine over there.
  5. Is Coach Pittman no longer leading the team?
  6. Pepvol, Swipes, & Strongx... Thank you guys!! These jokers don't realize just how little Patton got to show his ability this year. Maybe they need to go back & see some of the other QB's he beat out to get to the Elite 11 camp... I guarantee High won't even get a sniff of that camp.
  7. You should call the Otero boys, I'm sure they would be happy to bring their team there...
  8. I remember that Halls team, we played you guys at Halls the year before & won by a close margin.
  9. The title is self explanatory. Is Charlie High a better QB than Patton Robinnette? Since Maryville gave your school a beat down in the last few play off match ups, I would imagine you would say Patton is the better QB... BTW - The other site is GVX247
  10. I read on TOS that High may get a scholarship offer from UT... REALLY?!?!?! He's not even in the same league as Patton, yet he may get a scholly?!?!? Thoughts...
  11. I covered him, but his weakness was his hands. Bohannon was definitely the star of the team that year & both were a good offensive tandem. My Sr. year he was in the top 3 in the decathlon with Charles McTorry out of Nashville-Overton & Tim Bell out of Maryville.
  12. I wish it was this way. No matter what the private schools say, they're the reason this was split in the 1st place (McCallie anyone??). It was nice to see all of the schools under one championship format when I was in high school. The Baylors, McCallies, & Father Ryans of the world competed with us & it made for a much more competitive state tournament. I think this crap they have now is watered down & the champions will have to deal with the question of whether or not they're really were the best in the state. When matched up against each other in the finals (public vs private) the last 4-5 years before the split, the public schools won about 60% of the time. Obviously teams like Baylor & FR were at the top of the food chain in private school division, but the public schools like Overton, Cleveland, Bradley Central, Red Bank, & Soddy Daisy flip-flopped being the top public school programs. Now, we won't get to see great rivalries that took part at state like Red Bank-Father Ryan or Bradley Central-Baylor anymore. Seeing matches like Brian Provezano (Red Bank) vs Kevin Baltz (Father Ryan) in the finals where both crowds despised each other will never happen again & it's a darn shame... Regardless, Tennessee wrestling will always been seen as inferior amongst other states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, & even Georgia as they have a better format for determinng their champions than our messed up format we have now.
  13. Congrats on the medalists. As a personal friend of Hamm, I'm glad to see the program on the upswing. However, catching up with Cleveland & Soddy may be near impossible to do at this point...
  14. I will be there or I will be square!! I'll be coming down with some of my other "Mark Leen era" teammates out of Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, & Idaho! We do have a question though, what's the best way to get tickets? At the gate or is there a way we can order online? Good luck Heath & GO MOCS!!
  15. A bunch of Maryville/Blount County boys right there, I definitely like that!
  16. You also need to credit him with a number of errors in that article. I can name a few right off the top of my head.
  17. I'm going to have to disagree with you here on who's more gifted (McTorry vs Harlow) in a major way. Charles was a 3 sport athlete & was recognized as one of the most athletic wreslters to ever come through the Nebraska wrestling program. He won high school nationals as a Senior, ran close to a 10 second 100 meter dash & won the state title there, beat out a future 3 time SEC high jump champion to win the state high jump title as a Sr., & was one of the highest scoring decathlon champions in TN history. I guarantee you Charles would destroy Harlow in almost every athletic competition known to man. Now let me clarify, just because I said McTorry was more gifted doesn't make him a better wrestler. Harlow has better wrestling credentials no doubt, but you have to account that Harlow wrestled during an era where there weren't as many great athletes as there were in McTorry's time. That said, there's no way Harlow could match up athletically with McTorry in a million years...
  18. My vote would have to be McTorry. Most physically gifted wrestler ever out of TN
  19. Sorry, but that year they would have gotten hammered by either Melrose, Riverdale, Pearl Cohn, or Maryville. Especially Pearl, that team would have destroyed Trousdale. John Henderson, Reggie Ridley, Santonio Beard, etc, etc, etc... It would have been so bad they would have been forced to look at insituting the mercy rule much almost a decade sooner than they did... Wouldn't be surprised if they hung 100 on them
  20. For all of you coaches (both professional & part time), here is a good story as well as a product you guys should check out. You may have heard that UT hired a new special teams coach who used to coach at UNC & the Buffalo Bills. In between coaching for the Tar Heels & the NFL, he developed a Play Book app for the iPad. According to the site, 1stDown Technologies works for all levels of coaching looking to gain an advantage in the profession. Instead of carrying around laminted cards & having folders all over the place, the app allow users to have access to a ton of play & schemes right at their fingertips. Per the web page... "The mission is to help coaches at all levels spend more time developing football players and less time consumed with designing plays. The vision is to provide an application that organizes passing game ideas in a manner that saves coaches their most valuable commodity - time." From experience the free download is pretty cool & works well, but for any coach out there I can definitely see this thing helping take you to the next level & being a must have! http://firstdownapp.com/
  21. Are you talking about Charles McTorry? I wasn't sure what his career record was, but I know at least 3 of those career losses came to Marquis(sp?) Nelson out of Memphis Kirby. If I'm not mistaken, Nelson beat Charles 3 times McTorry's Jr. year.
  22. McTorry is probably the most physically gifted wresler to ever come out of TN in my opinion. Good guy too, had the pleasure of wrestling with him at a few Freestyle tournaments & hanging out with the other PAL guys from the Nashville area way back when. Wish he would have joined my class at UTC instead of going to Nebraska though, but I doubt you could find anyone as dominant in TN as he was that year...
  23. They were good, but the 1998 team is definitely the best hands down.
  24. That's what I was thinking... Shouldn't have he gone to Pearl from the get go though? Just wondering...
  25. Swipes, BIGANUT74 is just stupid & we'll have to accept it. I just posted FACTS for him & his argument was I had none. I DID live in Nashville, have a ton of friends & teammates who went through the private system, & yet he still says I don't have any facts. They may not give all of them full rides, but trust me they get something to come there. As a matter of fact, I talked to one today at lunch who's related to Rico Watson out of Ensworth. He said knows FOR A FACT that Rico was recruited to Ensworth & Corn was as well. Both of them played for his son's Jr. Pro teams in Murfreesboro growing up & Ensworth was currently after another relative of his from Blackman. I will say this though, I'm not going to fault a kid for wanting to go to a private school even if meant making a few sacrifices to make it happen. Most of them agreed that their public schools weren't as "safe" so to speak as Maryville or Alcoa but if they were they probably would have stuck closer to home.
