  1. Nice analysis Bump. I like the Hardin Valley pick over Gibbs. Riverdale could also surprise some. I don't see Tennessee getting by Cleveland though. If Wilson and Tennessee win their Region and Cleveland is region runner up, chances are (since Bradley will get the #1 seed) one of them will meet second round. That's going to be a rough way back through the consolation bracket for someone.
  2. No, not at all?? You want to wait until Region Duals are finished?
  3. Select 2 teams from each region to qualify for State Duals, then narrow down to top 6, top 4, finalists. I’ll start: Region 1: Tennessee High Science Hill Region 2: Halls Gibbs Region 3: Heritage William Blount Region 4: Bradley Cleveland Region 5: Blackman Stewarts Creek Region 6: Summit Independence Region 7: Wilson Central Beech Region 8: Arlington Bartlett Top 6 Bradley Cleveland Tennessee High Science Hill Wilson Central Beech Top 4: Bradley Cleveland Tennessee High Beech Finals: Bradley Cleveland
  4. Interesting that Beech is still at #5 given that they have finished behind a few teams currently ranked behind them. Also Science Hill won the Independence tournament, ahead of Beech and they're not even top 10?
  5. Its time to get the Region 1 thread fired back up for the season. Preseason rankings are in and it appears we have 8 ranked wrestlers. Understanding that weights will adjust what are Region 1 thoughts on our placers this season? Currently Ranked: Pendley - THS 3rd Nelson - THS 2nd Williams - SH 5th Story – SH 6th Diehl – SH 6th Pendley – THS 2nd James – SH 4th Henley – THS 4th Spangler – THS 3rd Several other Region 1 wrestlers might create some waves: Lemons – DB Scaggs – SH Cromoff – DC Bumgarner – DB Fields – THS Ferguson – THS English – Jeff Pridemore – SH Rapcan – DB Lawson – Jeff Medina – SH Morely- CoCo Pinkston – Jeff Can Region 1 top the medal count of 11 from last year?
  6. Interesting. Maybe you and Hamm should compare notes. Seems there are some conflicts on weight classes.
  7. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Maybe we should lobby for a Region 4 wildcard so that none of the wrestling royalty gets left out of the dance and gets the chance to prove their dominance. With your reasoning, I think its also safe to say we have to add Walker Valley as a legitimate top 4 contender. So since we are living in the world of what if's: Soddy 39 - Cleveland 26 -- 13 points (this happened twice--exact same score) Soddy slips past Wilson Central 35-29, 6 points difference in a match that if wrestled again could flip to WC. So it would stand to reason based on your illogical extrapolations that WC (the 4th place team) would beat Cleveland. Oh the humanity! What have I done?!?!?!?!?!
  8. Am I missing something here? Beech didn't place. No disrespect to Beech but they were 2 rounds from placing, regardless of who was missing or who didn't show up, Beech didn't lose those matches--those matches were WON by the other teams. It's time to give credit to the teams who stepped up and WON them. Both Science Hill and Gibbs stepped up to the plate and got the job done against Beech. So rather than making excuses and trying to figure out a way to justify why we were wrong in our predictions, let's also step up to the plate and congratulate those teams who figured out a way to win matches. Also can we stop beating the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" drum with Cleveland. They didn't make it, so no matter what you "think," they were not a top 3 dual team this year.
  9. Agree that it sucks that one will have to stay home but disagree that Cleveland is top 3 this year. I believe BC, WC, Soddy, & Beech will be the place winners next week. Another team might slip into the consi finals if the brackets force two of these to meet on the same side. Yes Cleveland would have qualified out of most other regions but the level of competition in Chattanooga area year in and out is what has created the standard that everyone else is chasing. Take one of those teams away and in a few years the gap closes quicker.
  10. Dooley is looking stout this year!
  11. What happened to your original post BoroRef? Why edit?
  12. So we've got a pretty good idea what everyone has, lets spice it up a bit. I'll get it started. 1) Bradley Central 2) Wilson Central 3) Beech 4) Cleveland 5) Stewarts Creek 6) Centennial 7) Soddy Daisy 8) Summit 9) Independence 10) Walker Valley I believe this is BC's year, they walk away and have the team title secured prior to the start of the Championship Finals. Everyone else is fighting for second but 2nd-8th could be a toss up!
  13. Not a slam on any kid. Just like others have said, should have offered the spot to the highest finishing freshman or sophomore at each weight (which I know for a fact was not done) before going down to non placers and jv kids. There are many who legitimately deserve to be on the team, no doubt, but there are also some on the other TN team who finished ahead of those at the same weight on this team and there are some sitting at home who were never offered the opportunity (and yes they signed up at the booth).
  14. While I'm very glad to see that we have two teams representing TN in Iowa this weekend, its a shame to see that we don't have a true all star team making our best effort. Given the fact that our best wrestlers are not on one team we won't have a true idea of how we stack up nationally. But it appears we might get to settle who should truly be on the A team as it appears there is a crossover match between the two TN squads. Should be interesting. I have to agree with RLWEST, I was highly disappointed to see how the Team TN team was selected. There was definitely some daddy ball in play here. I think I might coach next year so I guarantee my son gets on the team.
  15. Hated to see the sad unsportsmanlike display from the MoWest wrestler and parents-just embarrassed themselves even more and made a bad situation worse. I'm glad that drama is now officially over.
  16. Not a comment about JeffCo's practice, I have zero knowledge of their practice. I was simply stating that after his 4th place finish on Saturday AND drawing the #1 seed, a good practice today still probably not going to help. A perfect example of why region does matter.
  17. I'm not sure "looking good at JeffCo's practice tonight" will help all that much in Franklin. And to say region doesnt really matter is a cop out for those who didn't win. Of course it matters, if you go in as a 4, you wrestle a 1 from another region. As is the case with Broyles, whatever the reason for his bad performance at region, it will definitely affect him at State.
  18. Yeah you're right. I agree. They both should have received the OW, Along with the hwt and the 170 and 220. Great idea. Actually Let's give all the finalists OW and a participation trophy. Sorry if I ruffled your feathers, at least we both agree that you just don't understand. I'm just pointing out the facts. And Isnt it fitting that they serve fish in hospitality.
  19. You've never been to a match and see a kid spinning his finger in the air-the apparent universal symbol for injury time? I see it way too often, one wrestles with busted lip until a moment he is on his back or going to a disadvantaged position and all of a sudden that busted lip is critical and up goes the finger asking for the TO! Or even better pull your own nose plug and up goes the finger...just sayin
  20. I didn't see the Grundy match but from what I hear, Begley was about to be stacked and called for, and was granted, injury or blood time. This is probably what is being referred to as the Grundy wrestler being robbed. Begley is obviously a very good wrestler but it seems that he takes injury or blood time every match that goes beyond the 1st period. He's actually become quite notorious for it. That's a shame because now everyone is focused on that instead of his wrestling. As for the OW award, seems like a stretch to me. Just from the stats given by gold, even if no one else was considered, he was second to the wrestler he tied with. And this is obviously not the kids fault, he did his job and won the match, but it certainly makes the tournament director look biased. His wrestler slips through 3 matches by a point, especially after all the questionable rest periods, I mean blood time, and wins the OW. Sorry to be that guy, but I'm just stating what many others are thinking and are too polite to write.
  21. I agree with Baller here, once again. And btw I'm happy to see you back even though your boy has moved on. I believe Science Hill and Jeff Co are definitely the teams to beat. No holes in either lineup. We will see on Tuesday how they match up, even though I'm sure there will be several changes after Christmas to make things even more interesting. DB performed well at the Indian Classic. They even had an OW in Begley. They will definitely make it interesting. It doesn't appear TN High is there just yet, too many holes to make a serious run at it. And how can you say that MoTown West is not a dark horse? Have you not been reading NewCoaches' posts?? They have the horses in the stable, just waiting to get healthy and be released on Region 1.
  22. Any word on Storm Williams? Hope to see him before region this year.
  23. Sam Stephenson of Chat. Central had 5 pins (4 in the first round) and walked through this tournament. Not saying the other competitors in the upper weights weren't good but not sure how this wasn't the upper weight OW. Too bad I didn't get to vote.
  24. Last year the Region 1 thread was always one of the hottest. So lets get it going! Looks like the boys from Region 1 are off to a good start this year: Dobyns Bennett flexing its Region 1 muscles. They look strong in the upper half of the roster. Will Coach Mann take the trophy back to Kingsport this year? The boys from Science Hill tearing it up in North Carolina. As usual. lots of solid wrestlers across the lineup. Can anyone knock The Hill from the top? Jefferson County making noise in the Knoxville area with a very promising looking squad. Are they going to take the trophy back to Jefferson? Tennessee High School has several top scoring returners to make a run at it again. Can they take the honors back to Bristol? Or will it be one of the dark horses such as MoTown West or David Crockett? Lets get it on!! Where you at MarshieBaby and NewCoach?
  25. I'm hearing good things come out of the Morristown area. I hear Jeff Co. will certainly be a contender this year, and we shouldn't forget Griffen Broyles--I believe this will be his breakout year.
