  1. steelerfan Since you agree that Maryville had no trouble beating BA in the 80's, do you think that Maryville hasn't improved also, without the benefit of scholarships from out of the area. Might interesting to check the home addresses of the BA boys . What do you think qb#7 ?
  2. To me college and NFL can't compete with high school --especially MHS
  3. Still yapping about BA and private schools playing Maryville. BA has never beaten Maryville and that includes two championship games. Maryville takes whatever teams that are matched up against them and usually wins. So, why don't you guys quit cluttering up the posts with that c--p.
  4. The game will be on the internet at nfhsnet.com at 6.55
  5. Stars You studied under Dr Ferguson at MHS and I'm sure she didn't turn you loose like you sound. You have to have smarts to dominate the message boards like you do.
  6. Maryville beat BA twice in championship games -so the Rebs can handle the privates very well.
  7. We sure are pitiful, aren't we. ? Contrast a coach and an English teacher. If a football coach doesn't produce enough wins, He is out. Nobody pays any attention if an English teacher can't produce kids capable of getting on message boards without multitudes of spelling and grammar errors. Having said that , I too, can,t wait for football season, and wonder why the coach can't see what's obvious to me. Pitiful, aren't we?
  8. Earlier ,before the privates were put into their own classification, BA played Maryville twice for the state championship. BA coach thought Maryville had only a fair team . Maryville waxed BA 25-0. BA lost the other championship game to the Rebs also. Whether that would happen nowadays, who can say, but I wouldn;t bet against the Rebs no matter what the classification.
  9. Any TV for this game? STARS what were you watching the last game? How about nfhsnet.com==will it be on this game? Sure like to see this one.
  10. A little history here. BA has never beaten Maryville. That includes two state championship games. BA coach didn't think much of Maryville's team until the Rebs waxed them 25-0. Whether that could happen today --who knows? But---I wouldn't bet against the Rebs.
  11. I don't believe this. On my e-edition this morning there were stories featuring Seymour , Heritage , girls soccer etc, and , would you believe this-----bowling. I may have missed any story about the Rebels and WB ,but I never found any.. Not on Thursday either. As a matter of fact, for a team of national renown like Maryville ,the local paper is strangely silent as to coverage of the team. I have seen few profiles of any of the team members except when one of them gets hurt--or a couple of them get kicked off the team. Is it just me ---am I looking for more than I get from my local paper? As an alumnus of MHS , and a Times carrier of long, long ago, I am hurt . Maybe we should take Times back from the Greeneville Sun.
  12. Bet you can't name Maryville"s biggest county rival before Alcoa. That team had Left y Cross and another great runner--most always whipped Maryville.
  13. Coacht I had a message on the board a couple days ago which was gone after a little while. What did I say wrong? I need to know so that I can avoid that in the future.
  14. WOW Very little bad here--except one thing I wish The Rebs could improve on. Too many missed tackles. Have noticed that lots of times a player is in position to tackle for a loss but the runner jukes and the tackler whizzes on by.Check it out. I suggest a little less speed and getting set for the tackle . Also- the D-B quarterback was able to elude the defense while seeming about to be sacked. 3 or 5 guys chasing and the qb still making the play. Does the defense have to be all on one side? I recall one game with Brentwood Academy Ted Wilson had the defensive ends in a pincer movement--had the qb boxed in. Won the game. Here's some history for you. --don't recall Brentwood ever beating Maryville. Big rivalry those days. These are just my opinions -feel free to give me the digit. Anyway , hard to see how anyone could fault the Rebs on anything in that game.
  15. From my view from over the mountains , this Rebel team is on the way to being AWESOME. Never saw so many great running backs, 2 very good Qbs, several sticky fingered receivers,an All-American linebacker, offensive and defensive lines that are getting better and better as we speak. Sure would like to be there, but I get get the home games on nfhsnet.com..
  16. Has anybody heard anything from the Times paper? All week? Noticed a lot of space and pretty pictures of soccer and volleyball this morning. Seymour gets more space than the Rebs. Why is that?
  17. Barney If you are a computer nut,you may be able to get the JC game on mytelevisionxp.com.Hope so
  18. Barney In that 1939 picture,I am pretty sure that is Ross Honaker son of Lombe ,the Maryville College coach. Ross told me one time that I had my helmet on backward. He was a fighter pilot in WW2.
  19. Oldrebel2 I don't understand . I have been posting for several days without any problem. What do I do?
  20. Carolinarebel Oldrebel2 Would like to chat. Do we name names on coacht or what? I'm almost sure I know your folks--there aren't that many of us left.
  21. Carolinarebel Barney----that's a wonderful idea about writing a book about the history of Rebel football. I suggest you add the records and what each did in the war,For one instance Red Veal was a rear gunner on a plane. Another Rebel stands forever on the court house lawn--the statue is of Lawrence Allison -a bomber pilot and a classmate of mine. There are lots of Rebels and lots of stories about what they did in football and in service. I can supply the printer who has thousands of pictures of that era and later. Wonderful idea.
  22. Carolinarebel Barney---Long ago and far away ,the Rebels (oops , I mean Red Elephants)set off to play Loudon. ,Lenoir City,Sweetwater,ot Somebody. On the way they picked up a ringer and let him play in the game. Needless to say, they were suspended. Can you imagine that happening today. Do any more of us old fuds remember that?
  23. Carolinarebel Oldrebel2-- Red and Ken Hodson and I were good friends so your dad was in there too. If you wish to tell me his name maybe we can chew the fat
  24. Carolinarebel Barney---No, I live in Cary,NC -just moved from Maryville in 2011, but I get both the Times and the Sentinel by internet. I probably read both papers before most of you in the mornings. I try to log on the papers in the towns Maryville is playing.-fun. I went out for Spring practice when I was in the 8thgrade and I could outrun anybody on the team at that time. But , I was very poor and took a job in the afternoons at JC Penney--so good bye football. My later sport record was a member of the champion cross-country team of the European Theater in WW2.Funny story. In Korea I sparred with a former world boxing champion. didn't do much damage, but did find out all the cartilage was gone from his nose. Two weeks after we got to Korea, he got the Silver Star for action on patrol. LeRoy Rogersknows about stuff like that.
  25. Carolinarebel Barney-You might log on to the Johnson City Press this week . It had a full week of the Science Hill -Maryville game last year-columnists ,feature stories -all of them full of praise for the Rebels. After the game ,the columnists were full of awe and praise for the Rebels -no excuses.. It "s a crime that the Times almost seems to ignore the Rebel games.. The JC Press will have something every day. Check it our, Barney.
