  1. Hey SweetScience, how much interest is Gaddis showing and where is he now?
  2. I don't know anything personally but a few of the Oak Ridge fans have said he applied for the open HC job down there.
  3. You guys ought to replace Crockett with Gate City. You never know anymore what sort of a team they will have but it is a great gate when you play them at home and a really good atmosphere for an away game.
  4. Excuse me sir - missed the word "system" in your first sentence. My bad there... I think the other point about open zone being more prevalent than people think is correct though. The only ones that get talked about on here are the schools that also put in a great deal of hard work towards athletics and have laid good foundations for their programs
  5. There are a lot of good things to say about J-Fred but until they do something about the ridiculous visitor side seating I have a hard time ranking them at the top. Having a dual purpose stadium (baseball and football) always means you can't have the best of both. Great place to see a game from the home side though. I hope that the stadium renovation plans (which do involve a lot of metal on the home side) are well done. They might see season ticket sales go down because adding 1200 seats to the home side will probably mean that you don't have to have season tickets to be assured a seat on the home side. I think that there were less than 100 seats on the home side that were not sold as season tickets this year.
  6. I don't have a dog in this hunt but some of these figures are so grossly wrong I've got to say something. 1780 students at Alcoa? 500 tuition students? Guys, Alcoa is a 3A football school (not AAA which is for football the 5A/6A classification). I guess the fact that they have been able to regularly compete with and on occasionally beat Maryville over the last several years has made people think they are much bigger. I don't know the current figure but just a couple years ago Alcoa had between 500 and 600 students TOTAL. Many of the county school systems in TN are "open zone" as long as there is room. I live in Sullivan county. As long as you provide your own transportation there are no questions asked regarding what school in the county system (there are 4 high schools) you want to attend. There was a "lottery" process several years ago but I don't think that is needed anymore. They basically want to make it easy for any in-state person to attend in order to keep their student count up. Annexation by local cities has been hard on our county schools. State dollars follow the students to whatever school they are attending whether it is county or city. The city schools impose a tuition surcharge because they typically spend more on education and the out of zone students are not contributing towards the city tax base. The tuition fee is typically established by how much the individual cities spend "extra" on education whether that is higher teacher salaries, better facilities, or whatever. I have zero insight towards the disparity in Alcoa/Maryville tuition fees but I'd bet that Maryville has higher expenses. I suppose the Alcoa BOE could just be generous as well. I think the current Dobyns-Bennett tuition is more comparable to Maryville than Alcoa.
  7. Classy post... Malik could handle the academics anywhere. Regarding the football field - things do go in cycles but Vandy at its peak will never be consistently better than Tenn in its valley. Malik and Devon are getting to live their dream and there is nothing wrong with that.
  8. I had asked around and not gotten anything definite back immediately but just saw that as of today (12-29) Malik was listed on Tennessee's R1vals web site. I did get through the grapevine that they want Devaun Swafford to go ahead and enroll at Tenn. as well with the intention of a scholarship to follow soon (maybe first year but possibly delayed to 2nd year).
  9. Not a nickels worth of difference between Elizabethton and Sullivan North this year. Two wins for Betsy with totalized margin of victory maybe 4 points or so.
  10. Best wishes to the new coach. Crockett is a tough place to win at consistently. I hope they can schedule some out of conference games that give them the opportunity to win a few games and get the school/team excited about football.
  11. Most of the contributions from this year's Junior class came on the line and from the linebackers. I like the possible upswing over the next few years. We saw several times this year where the soph. QB made bad decisions (running around and getting sacked instead of getting rid of the ball) but that is just part of the growing process and I'm glad that he had the opportunity to get the experience, he will be just fine. I think we will be well stocked at WR as well but I don't know who will be the main RB.
  12. FBD - from what I saw last night you guys have nothing close to a "thin" roster. Especially for a 3A school. Impressive squad for sure...
  13. Great game by both teams. I do have one question for the CAK fans. There was some mention of playing part of the offensive line on defense to occasionally shore up that side if needed. It appeared to an untrained eye that CAK did that for most of the game. Is that correct or were you talking about other players being put on defense that we did not see?
  14. Yeah, I get your point. I've just always enjoyed the South - Greeneville football games so much in the past. It is usually a good competitive game and both sides always bring a good crowd. Crawdad said that we were talking to a NC school as well.
  15. I understand that a good portion of the visitors side is regularly taken up by Cyclone fans. Anyway, I'm coming with a bunch of Rebels, Trailblazers, and Indians so there will be all kinds of colors on display. That's all for another thread though...
  16. Crawdad, has the 2013 schedule been firmed up yet?
  17. Don't be too sure of yourself DevilMan! I went to one Freshman/JV game last year and the Rebels were ahead of the Devils around 28-0 by halftime. I think it ended up around 35-7 or something like that. The next couple years will be strong for the Rebels. Looking forward to playing North, Greeneville, and EHS regularly again all quality programs with great head coaches. Heading to Betsy to cheer the Cyclones on Friday night!
  18. Don't know where it would fit in but the Kingsport paper said the other day that Sullivan South was talking to both Greeneville and Middlesboro, KY to fill in a spot on the schedule. Other out of conference games for the Rebels included Tennessee High, Daniel Boone, and Gate City.
  19. At least 1 in 1938. From what I understand there were playoff games that year.
  20. Still 7-0 with 7:39 in 2nd. DB defense has stepped up after the first 2 or 3 plays.
  21. Bring a bunch of South Rebels and Boone Trailblazers to the Skeeter tonight to cheer for the Indians. Gotta go practice my tomahawk chop...
  22. They appealed 4 years ago as we'll and were turned down... Maybe things will go better for them this time around. They have had a rough go of it for several years and would be a much better fit in 4A.
  23. Regarding AC appealing their student # due to the alternative school: I'm pretty sure that Sullivan Central is in exactly the same situation. I don't know the exact numbers but have heard that there are 20 or more students in this category on their student count. These students come from all over the county. I understand that there is also an area on campus with facilities geared toward serving the more severely disabled students in the whole county. This is similar to the alternative school in that students from all over who can benefit from these special services are counted towards Sullivan Centrals student population. Things may have changes but the last time I checked Central was the lowest population 5A school. Just bringing this to light to illustrate that AC isn't the only school with that situation.
  24. I can't remember his number but there was one touchdown pass against West Greene that went to another big tall player who looked very similar to #42.
