  1. You're exactly right, he wasn't the coach so I guess it doesn't matter. But wouldn't a coach who ran a strong disciplined program, worked hard, and had the respect of his players be what any team would need? Whether it was baseball, basketball, or Football? There, back on topic of football. Lol.
  2. And what kind of record did that propel the Pirates to in baseball that year?
  3. Btw, my pick would still go with the 90 champions. 92, 94, and 95 may have been more talented overall, but the 90 team, just in my opinion, was just downright tougher. And didn't care to tell you about it. Lol.
  4. PP, that was 1994 team you spoke of, beating Portland in finals. 95 team beat Humboldt 28-7.
  5. If there are indeed some dark days ahead for the Pirates and their faithful followers, it's good to know that our friends from Jasper can advise us on how to handle them.
  6. While I appreciate your willingness to defend those that would take a win over the arch rival versus a state championship, I have to respectfully disagree on a couple of points. I will actually agree that you are prob spot on with some people in both towns concerned more about the rivalry win than the title but I would say not as much in SP, especially in these last 7-8 years. A lot of folks have posted how spoiled we are down here, that anything short of a title game opportunity is disappointing. My second point of friction is about the 2008 Pirate team. Although not as talented as the 07 team that blasted Mckenzie for the title, I would have to give the 08 team that was on a 28 game winning streak an overwhelming nod over the 08 Warriors. You said it was coaching, or coaching inexperience that hurt the Warriors. In a close game I might agree, but in a game that had a 48-13 final, not so much. The 08 team lost a heartbreaker in one of the coldest games I've ever witnessed. Just my opinion, but again, I do appreciate your argument. Go Pirates!
  7. I wasn't asking about SP desire to get to Cookeville. That's the goal every year. It seems like the warrior faithful on here is selling their team a little short. You wanna make sure you break the streak and get revenge on trousdale. Anything else is just icing on the cake.
  8. Then you answered my question. Trousdale will probably be in same quad, so Cookeville is not your desired destination. Thanks for clearing that up. Shoot for the stars.
  9. For all you purple posters out there, you are all sure that this is the year the streak ends, and you are certainly entitled to believe that. You have a talented group of young men that have played well this year. But my question for you is this: is beating SP gonna satisfy you guys or are you not gonna be satisfied unless you bring home a gold ball? You see, during this series the past 8 years, SP banked on playing for the state title year after year and nothing else mattered. Sure, it was always desirable to beat Jasper, but the Pirates weren't satisfied with the season unless it ended it at the state title game. Are you people so excited about the possibility of the streak ending, that a win tomorrow night satisfies everything? Or do you have loftier goals? I'm sure Blake Zeman would exchange a win tomorrow night for a shot at the gold ball. I'm not sure the warrior fans feel the same way.
  10. It looks as if some young ones for SP will get a taste of this rivalry sooner rather than later due to the recent injury bug that has hit the Pirates. Let's just hope that game is injury free for both teams and they can enter the playoffs next week with the best possible chance to make a run. It should still be an electric atmosphere and an incredible night for players on both sides. After all, that's who this should be about, the players, and it's their night to showcase their love of this game.
  11. Reality has set in on the copper basin folks. They're not near as good as they thought they were when they started with several wins. So now they change subject of the beat down they took last night to throw stones at SP? Thought this thread was about Boyd and Basin?
  12. What would you suggest? Last time I checked, just because a kid is a good athlete, it doesn't automatically correlate into a good basketball player.
  13. I went back thru the 11 pages of this topic and someone can correct me if I overlooked it but there seems to be no mention of a feller by the name of Pumpy Tudors. I think he was pretty good at the rb position.
  14. Ross was NOT told that he was guaranteed to start by March 1st, but that there was a possibility that something may work out that might allow that to happen. Dont have a clue what that was supposed to be, but It did not work out. That should've been expected since teachers dont just quit/retire with 3 months left in school year, so why would administration promise him something on the offchance that a position would come open? There was no promise made other than he and his wife were both guaranteed jobs starting the new school year in August. SP is in a tough position, but there's no doubt the administration will bow their backs and make the right decision going forward. Go Pirates!
  15. Topper's got all the jokes. Post em on the basketball board if you want to bash the basketball team. This is about Pirate football, not your attempt at being a comedian.
  16. All you district 5a fans have a right to voice your opinion on the weakness of district 6a and you may very well be right as to all four 5a teams advancing. But then again you could be wrong as evidenced by sale creeks sweep of grace this year and van burens win over CSAS in Chattanooga. Boyd, to me is the strongest team, but I would not count out any of the other teams at all, it is tournament time, and we all know that anything can happen.
  17. Region first round games hosted by higher seeds, then tournament moves to sale creek for semis and finals.
  18. From what I understand, tournament starts on Wednesday the 26th with four girls games starting at 12:00 central time. Tourney runs thru Saturday with six games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The boys teams involved are Tyner North Sand Mountain, AL, Sequatchie Co. and the host South Pittsburg. Each team gets three games. Hope this helps. Not sure on exactly who's playing who and when, however. Just know games begin at 12 noon cst every day.
