CPA was dominate, especially on defense. Held MC to 4 points in 2nd half until about 1:30 left in game when benches were emptied.
  2. Congrats on a great season, and unreal shooting! CPA makes a lot of 3's this year, but in the same number of games, they only have 292. Good luck in the tourney. BOMBS AWAY!
  3. My apologies. I thought the poster was referring to District 7 & 8 - I misread his post. I agree REGION 7 & 8 are probably the favorites for the title.
  4. Sorry, I have no dislike for 7 and 8, but there is very little chance the state champ comes from those districts. The 2 best teams in each of those districts are not in the same league with Creekwood, Maplewood, 2 two best teams from Knoxville, or a 1/2 dozen teams from the west. Look at the common opponents and performance, records and SOS of those teams compared to others and come back to reality. Plus when is the last time Region 4 won the state even with some really good LA teams? Not hating - just being realistic.
  5. I agree. Lots of kids held back for sports - has been that way for a long time, but more so now because of the potential financial benefits (scholorships and pros). But that is a family decision, and I do not criticize them. I held a child back that wasn't an athlete because he needed another year of maturity, and it was a good decision. What is "legit"? Some kids who are "legit" are 8-10 months older than others in the same grade. IMO, if they are in the class, they are legit.
  6. GQ magazine highlights Tyger Campbell on an article entitled: Just How Early Can You Spot the Next Lebron? Interesting to get some insight into: - why Tyger came to CPA. Because he would not have been allowed to play HS as a freshman at most of the "baskeball prep schools". - how he was recruited by basketball prep schools while playing at CPA - the fact that his family did not move to Nashville then leave when he left CPA. This is actually their home now. - the fact that rumors about Tyger's academic problems at CPA were just that - rumors. - the fact that Drew hoped he would stay but knew the chances were slim. - the racial slur episode at Creekwood last year. The first time I saw him play I commented that I didn't feel he would ever stay 4 years at CPA. I thought he might stay one more year IF Blackwell stayed. I bet he knew Blackwell was leaving when he made his decision. I am excited for him and wish him all the best. I talked with him a couple of times and he is a very polite, mature, and smart young man. it was fun watching him play for CPA last year. Here is the article: http://www.gq.com/story/next-lebron-james-tyger-campbell
  7. I agree and they have lost games this year because the 3 has failed them. However, they would not be where they are right now if they had not realized the only way they can win is through pressure defense and their long range shooting. If you have seen them, you see they do not have the size or strength to win any other way. To be honest, all teams live by their strengths, and die when those strengths fail them. For example, a team who lives by talented big men inside dies when they get in foul trouble. A team that lives by high pressure defense sometimes dies when "touch" fouls are called. CPA knows their strengths and weaknesses, and they have to play within those parameters to have a chance. True of all teams.
  8. I would say when you beat any good team with 1 returning starter and 1 other second 5 returning player and only about 15% of your previous year's scoring, it is an upset. But they definitely "upset" Westview who is now 15-3 and only lost to Simeon, Ill by 7. They also would have been considered underdogs against Webb, who beat a good FRA team and handed Fulton their only loss, and a good CAK team, who beat FRA and a very good Knox. Cath. team. The KY tourney they won was not great competition but it was at least equal competition and they won it on the road. That was an upset, IMO. But I get it, they can never do enough for you to give them or their coaches any props. If they win every game, you consider them cheaters and classless. If they lose every game, you consider it bad coaching. No one will change your outlook, so I won't even try. Just thought I would try to update the thread subject which was "CPA basketball interesting year ahead". Have a great night.
  9. Back to the topic: CPA has a mediocre record (for them) at 12-7. Interesting to note that one of those losses was to an average Ridgeway team over Christmas. But look at the records of the other 6 teams that beat them: - Cane Ridge - 16-1 (#10 in the state) - Pope John Paul - 16-4 (#7 in the state) - Corinth, MS - 19-1 (#2 in the state) - University Lab, La - 17-3 (#3 in the state) - Spain Park, AL - 16-7 (#2 in the state) - Mountain Brook, AL - 17-5 (#5 in the state) CPA is now 5-0 in their district. They are not, by far, a state contender, but I finally went to a game last week and, to be honest, it is amazing how well they have done with what they had coming back and the young guys on the bench. They start 1 Sr., 2 Jr.,1 Soph., and 1 Fr. They returned only 1 starter from last year - their 4th leading scorer, and one other player that was in their top 5 off the bench. Only 2 of their top 10 players returning. They have won every game they should have won, and even upset a team or two. They may not go far in postseason, but they are having a good year with the talent they have.
  10. Just looked at last night stats. That Jamil Wilson from Ballard must be the real deal. What year is he?
  11. Looks like they are "fitting the scheme to the personnel". I thought that was the sign of a good coach???

    CPA

Was interesting to see that they won 2 games last weekend, including a win against Westview who seems to have a pretty good team. Have not seen CPA play and know they only have one starter back from last year and only one other starter who played much last year. Looking at their box scores, I barely recognize any names. I do know they had a great middle school team last year so maybe the freshmen are helping. They are not state contenders but will compete pretty well this year and probably have a winning record. On another note, Braxton Key (changed his name from Blackwell) is having a great year at Oak Hill (a top 10 ranked national team) and has signed with Alabama. Tyger Campbell is having a great year as a freshman starter for Top 10 nationally La Lumiere. They have senior 2 starters who are D1 commitments, and 2 top nationally rated juniors (#20 and #23 in the nation). Campbell brings the ball down, and feeds allyoop dunks to 4 different guys.
  13. Still out of the country, but just saw the score. Congrats to CPA for a great season that frankly, exceeded my expectations for them. Championship game 3 years in a row is a great accomplishment. To all the Alcoa posters, congrats to the #1 3A program in the state and regaining the trophy, and obviously a great defensive team. Looking forward to watching the game when I get home. Despite all the back and forth all year, you Alcoa posters make CoachT more fun and you have a right to beat your chest again. Awesome team and great fans. Don't think we will see you in Dec. next year. Some rebuilding to do.
  14. I was at the games when we had to borrow a Middle School field to play on, and now when I go to the games, I am lucky to see 10 people I know other than faculty. To be honest, the crowds are pretty low, IMO. I think people don't appreciate how blessed we are to have some success now, and winning has lost its excitement for many. Even the student section was slim last week. Well, times have changed. One exception this year was the Ensworth game at Ensworth. We had as many fans there as they did and it is a big facility, but was packed. Great atmosphere.
  15. Thanks, and we will, but I'll be darned that I am going to let the terrorists win by controlling my life through fear. That is what they want, and what the world has allowed them to do, but not me. Someday people will figure out that we need to take the terror to them.
  16. Ha - I hear ya! Well, taking the wife on a "bucket list" place the only time we can trumps our Lions loyalty this year. We've been there through the years many times when others haven't, so no guilt felt here. Good luck to you this weekend. Still wish we would schedule you guys for a home/away during regular season someday. Seems we can't get past the west the same year you get past the Tornado to meet in the title game.
  17. I was there for both. Two great games and heartbreakers for CPA. Enjoyed my trip to Milan that year, though. Nice atmosphere for HS football.
  18. I remember the little 5'5" 140 lb. freshman QB at Goodpasture. Couldn't throw the ball at all until his Jr. year, but he could sure run their offense well and tough to tackle. Started every game for 4 years at Goodpasture. if I remember correctly, GP stole him from Ezell Harding. What a career at Navy.
  19. I know the season is not over, but I am going to be out of the country the rest of the season and wanted to take a moment to congratulate Coach Martin and his staff on their first 5 years (so far): 5 YEARS Record: 65-5 Playoff Record: 17-3 (1 quarterfinal still playing; 2 semifinals; 2 finals; 1 championship) Home losses: 1 Region losses: 1 - Maplewood 3A opponent losses: 3 - Milan(2), Alcoa(1) and most important of all - they are great molders of men. Best of luck to the Lions the rest of the year. My heart says repeat; my head says Alcoa is too tough this year.
  20. I agree. Weatherly did not have a great individual game, but he does a lot of little things well and plays great defense too. His TD pass in the first quarter was a great throw. You have to admit he runs the offense well. Omer is a very good player and was the difference tonight. When he didn't play the last series of the first half, it cost CPA a TD.
  21. Sorry, I heard it was today and I have not been in town to see the last 3 games. Regardless, they cannot afford to lose players like that and make it to Tech. Love the Lions, but they just don't have enough this year to repeat.
  22. They will get a chance to prove it like so many others have who thought they were better. CPA is beatable - it has happened 5 times in the last 70 games, once at home, and never to a District opponent.
  23. I do not want to name names in case I am wrong, but he wasn't dressed and I heard before the game he was no longer on the team. You probably know who it is if you were at the game.
  24. BPM, you know you love playing at CPA. You guys were the only team to beat CPA in the Lion's Den in the last 5 years. Good luck against the "Magnet" - should be a good game.
