  1. Hey Sackmaster50; just thought I would ask your thoughts on the following since you are so busy beating your chest about the mighty Spartans and their killer schedule: What do you think of the fact that Webb has much more similarity to schools in D2-AA, both in type of school and enrollment (Webb has about the same number of students as does BA and more than Ensworth), than it does to the schools in its own district (religion-based schools with enrollments of, at most, about half of Webb's). If Webb truly wanted to challenge themselves, wouldn't they still be in D2-AA? I look forward to your thoughts on this issue.
  2. I just read a truly awe-inspiring story on the front page of the Tennessean about the football player at MJCA who plays with a prosthetic leg. Andrew Kittrell, a freshman, plays for the Crusaders on both sides of the ball and leads the team in tackles from his linebacker spot. Hopefully, this story can remind us all (including AlbertPine) that amateur athletics is about so much more than wins and losses. Way to go, young Mr. Kittrell!!!
  3. Hey Pep - I understand that your question was rhetorical, but I will answer it on here for all to see, mainly because I get absolutely tired of people like Spartan4Life coming on here to remind us all how great the Webb School is and what wonderful accomplishments all those D2-A gold balls are. The reason they don't play schools similar to them in D2-AA is to avoid results like they got last night. They simply got tired of getting their butts kicked every game, so they moved down to beat up on tiny little religious schools. Quick Primer on D2-A for those who have been bamboozled by the hot air blown by the likes of Spartan4Life: Enrollment at Webb: 471 (more than Ensworth and about the same as Brentwood Academy) Enrollment at their 4 region games this year: Mt. Juliet Christian Academy: 143 Friendship Christian: 231 Donelson Christian: 218 King's Academy 188 How many gold balls would Spartan4Life be bragging about had Ensworth and/or BA followed them down to D2-A? Great game by OR last night. Glad to see them putting it together at the right time of year.
  4. Agree with everything you said, other than what is quoted above - not sure you were watching the same game towards the end of the fourth quarter. Ensworth, up 17-14, forced a CPA punt with 4:39 left and took possession at midfield (literally on the 50 yard-line). Ensworth used three minutes to drive for the score to go up 24-14 with 1:30 left. Nothing meaningless about that touchdown and had CPA been able to stop the Ensworth offense, they would have got the ball back down 3 with plenty of time left. It was on the ensuing possession that CPA unsuccessfully went on fourth down deep in their own territory. Ensworth took possession and kneeled the last two plays. No big deal - just wanted to set the record straight. I think what you saw was a very young Ensworth line start to find itself in the second half. It was a great game and a great atmosphere. Good luck to both teams as they move forward towards their respective playoffs. P.S. If you enjoyed that atmosphere, you should come to an Ensworth/MBA, Ensworth/BA or BA/MBA game some time!! Better yet, come on over to D2 and you can enjoy that kind of game environment on an almost-weekly basis. We would love to have a team like y'all join our league!
  5. Awesome news. I look forward to E-H getting back to where they once were on the gridiron. Best wishes!!!
  6. That's OK - we're fine where we are. We will just continue to strive for academic, social and athletic excellence in our own backward, misguided way while the Tennessee public school systems continue to show the world how to do things the right way. Thanks for all of the great advice, but I don't think anyone is interested. Whine away!
  7. What year would they sit out when they enter the school as a first-grader or as a sixth-grader? Freshman year, when the TSSAA rules first come into play? What sense would that make? You apparently do not realize this, but under TSSAA rules, transfers to D2 schools are subject to the exact same rules as transfers to D1 schools. Do the research - the rules are there for everyone to read on the TSSAA web site. Is that somehow not good enough for you? Since I appear incapable of researching how all these other wonderful states do it, why don't you enlighten me with the rules that these other states all seem to follow? I still don't get why you continue to attack the policies of TSSAA and of D2 schools when D2 has already been banished from playing against the D1 schools. Perhaps your argument should be directed at the D1 privates?
  8. You want zoning for private schools? "Like other states do"???? That makes no sense to me. Though it may not fit your agenda, private schools exist and thrive for many reasons other than athletics. Ensworth had three members of its class of 2014 (out of a little more than 100 graduates) accepted as early enrollees at Harvard. That was the most from any school in the nation, public or private. Most people affiliated with the school will tell you that is a far more significant accomplishment than winning a football/basketball/baseball game. Yet you would deny these students the opportunity to attend Ensworth because they might live outside your "zone", which you want to force on them, even though they are already prohibited from competing against you in sports??? Come on, man, get real.
  9. Per TSSAA itself, it is not the D2 schools that are recruiting (i.e. cheating) - it is in fact the D1 schools!!! Yet for some reason you want to come on a D2 board and tell us all what's wrong with D2. I am not sure what your goal is - you already kicked the D2 schools out so that D1 wouldn't have to play against them - what more do you want? By the way, financial aid starts with a form filled out by the parents of a kid who is already enrolled at the school and sent to a third-party; the coach or athletic department has absolutely nothing to do with that process. it is not something that the schools "offer" or "promise" to parents to get a kid to attend. If the third-party says the family doesn't qualify for aid, the kid gets no financial aid, period. Any kid in the school can fill out the form and qualify for financial aid, depending on the finances of the family. Does this somehow bother you?
  10. Sounds like whining to me. RonMexico was only pointing out that open-zoned publics have much the same "advantages" as the privates (at a much lower cost to the students). I am not trying to give you a hard time, but your opinions regarding how or why the D2 schools do what they do really have nothing to do with this topic. With all due respect, D2 schools don't compete with Gallatin in athletics and they certainly don't rely on the opinions of Gallatin supporters to determine their agenda. Open Zoned publics do compete with Gallatin - perhaps it's time you refocused your whine. By the way, you would lose that bet.
  11. That's why they're in D2, so why are you still whining about it? By the way, every one of those BA kids still pay something (financial aid or not) to attend BA. The taxpayers pay nothing toward their education, while their parents continue to finance the publics through their taxes, How much do the students pay to attend Gallatin?
  12. So are Southern Cal, Yale and Johns Hopkins, some of the best campuses in the land. What's your point?
  13. Agree with you that Baylor has a beautiful campus, but I much prefer McCallie's football field. The view of the sun setting over the mountains from the visitor's stands is unreal.
  14. They haven't played each other since about 2001, and I am pretty sure they aren't scheduled to start up again this year.
  15. If you are closer to middle Tennessee, I suggest the following: October 2: Brentwood Academy @ Ensworth October 9: Ensworth @ Montgomery Bell Academy October 30: Montgomery Bell Academy @ Brentwood Academy. Can't go wrong with any of these games.
  16. Ur histree ain't too good fer a histree techur. 2008 was Webb's last year playing with schools similar to it in size and type. That year they were a glorious 0-5 against those schools in conference games. Their overall record that year was 4-6. The next year, 2009, was their first year of beating up on religious schools that have less boys in the entire school than Webb does in their senior class and that was the year that they started winning the gold ball virtually every season. Quite the accomplishment, Webb Spartans - you should be proud. In 2011, feeling their oats after beating up on the small fry for a couple of seasons, they signed a two--year contract to play Ensworth again (Ensworth has less students than does Webb). That didn't end so well, as Webb lost 40-0 (could have been a whole lot worse had Ensworth been so inclined) and Webb cancelled the next year so that they could better concentrate on enjoying their gold balls earned against the likes of MJCA and Kings Academy. The Webb fans' barking about their greatness wears pretty thin amongst most of us who do know their true history since 2008.
  17. Why don't you tell your friend at Webb that they should be playing schools their own size (such as Ensworth and BA) instead of worrying about the likes of MJCA? Kinda ironic, that Webb used to be the MJCA of D2- AA back when they were playing against schools similar to them.
  18. I'm no fan of CPA, but come on - give us a break. Are you saying that there is now some requirement that one needs to somehow gain your permission (or that of TSSAA) before they will be allowed to move and enroll their kids in a new school?????? This dude need not explain to anyone why he chose to move. If you think he does, you are sorely mistaken and should consider moving yourself to Russia or some other country where the government seeks to control the movement of its citizens. You are taking this to ridiculous lengths if you think that CPA somehow "recruited" this kid to move to Nashville from out of state so that he could come pay tuition at CPA and vie for a championship at the mid-level in a mid-level basketball state. Plenty of exceptional basketball programs between here and there if these people were simply shopping for a place to play basketball.
  19. I agree - it was an awesome game. Ensworth usually takes a while to get their basketball mojo going because as important as it is for the Ensworth players to get back on the court and in basketball shape, their coach also doesn't get back on the court until the football season is over as well. As you could likely tell last night - they are a very well-coached team.
  20. Well.... Ensworth beat Hamilton Heights (the gold team - that's their varsity) 46-41 tonight. Y'all Lighthouse people need to get out more - there's plenty of good teams right here in MiddleTennessee.
  21. I don't know what the other poster was referring to, but Ensworth has a "Service Learning" program where every student in the high school must go out to interact with the community and perform services for the community regularly during their high school career. These services are quite varied based upon each student's talents and interest, but range from feeding the homeless to building community gardens to work with organized programs such as Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics. Ensworth students have performed literally thousands of hours of community service through this program since the high school started 8 years ago.
  22. Great win for Ryan - way to rep Tennessee!! I am not sticking up for the whiners in Ohio, but I do know that Moeller played its last football game on November 29 (a loss in the state semis), over three weeks after Ryan last played (November 7), and a mere week prior to the Super 8 Duals.
  23. That was a great way to end the 2014 high school season! Congratulations to the Maryville Rebels. Kudos as well to Ravenwood on a fantastic season.
  24. Well I hope you do get a chance to come to a game - we would be glad to show you a little hospitality. In the meantime, I will keep paying my taxes to do my part in subsidizing the public schools. Best wishes to you and to Smith County.
