  1. Thats not true either. Vowell was trying to hire Gillard, while Gillard was holding out for other jobs.
  2. One caveat, I'm not saying Gillard isn't the guy. I'm saying that he wasn't brought in with intentions of a power play. Just not the case. Vowell has more influence at that school than Verna Ruffin, that you can believe.
  3. This is comical. Vowell was certainly not let go at North Side. Gillard was hired when another coach left on his own last summer. So whomever you heard your news from must be a large fan of conspiracy theories. You are free to believe what you want. But this could not be farther from the truth...
  4. You think Hoover High School in Alabama is paying $125,000 to their head coach straight from the school? And none of that money is being given by boosters so that Hoover High School football remains Hoover High School football? Your claims are fairly ridiculous about where this money comes from. No school system can pay their coach that much money out right, the "coaching" supplement comes from boosters. You think the many many football coaches in Texas are paid strictly from the school systems? No, its the booster who pay those supplements. The rich oil industry guys who want their high schools to be the best on the field on Friday nights give the money to raise salaries. You know all about Alabama's rank in the national education spotlight. Where is Texas in the national rankings? I would assume ahead of Tennessee, both in academics and athletics. Also, it is not illegal for a booster club to pay coaches. It varies by school district, and I also believe that the TSSAA policy in regards to this is that any money given as a "supplement" must be noted with TSSAA. So, I take that to mean that it is okay as long as you have let it be know to the states governing body for high school athletics. As far as coaches magically getting smarter by being paid more, they don't. You fire the subpar coach and hire a better one. Also, when a coach doesn't have to teach, they have 8 hours a day to plan for practice, game plan, administrative work, etc. But when you have a higher pay grade, your schools football coaching job gets a whole lot more appealing to better candidates.
  5. First of all, I am not a Maryville fan. The rebels in my account name is referring to the Ole Miss Rebels, not Maryville. So you shouldn't lump me in with them. Furthermore, Maryville fans on here seem to be pretty cordial and usually pretty funny. They are usually not disrespectful. And if they are, I think they have earned the right. Maryville has a bunch of state titles to back up any talk. Second, you calling me classless is a little bit of the kettle calling the pot black? I mean after all, You did blast Ravenwood a little bit. Said they were hyped up last year when they played Blackman and they lost that game. And that Maryville will have 50 points on the board before Ravenwood's DC knew what was going on. So all of that was classy to say, but it was not classy for me to call you out for getting on a message board with your feelings hurt? Doesn't add up to me. Seems like those feelings are still hurt.
  6. "TrezCANT" DID make it to the title game this year and Greeneville DID NOT make it. You can keep harping on something that happened 4 years ago but it doesnt change the fact that Greeneville isnt good enough to play for a title.
  7. Hmmm, sounds like somebody's feelings are hurt that Ravenwood is playing for the title and not them.
  8. I get what you are saying. And I agree that execution is a large part of the game. Maryville may not have the athletes of Whitehaven, Oakland, Hillsboro, or Blackmon, but they are certainly not hurting athletically. Also, football and competition are not part of the culture at Maryville, they are the culture. Hardin county also is not usually the worst off when it comes to athletic ability. I think you are comparing apples to oranges with the Hardin County comparison. I get what you are saying about Maryville, but again, they never hurt for athleticism.
  9. Paul Decker Shane Jacobs The Def Coord at Westview (cant remember name) These are some local names that are assistants in very solid programs.
  10. As far as replacements for the oc job?
  11. You are right in that the middle school program has changed for the better. And that is what it takes to accelerate your program. The middles schools are playing teams other than just the other schools in the county. Which raises the level of competition. But at some point it comes down to Jimmy's and Jo's. Not X's and O's. Especially as we draw closer to championship games. Take a 4a qtr final game. Crockett vs Trezevant. Do you think Coach Ward is a better or worse x and o coach than Coach White at Trezevant? I would say that they are fairly even on knowledge of the game. But Trezevant won the game. They were the team that made the least fatal mistakes or played the more whole game on Friday night. It doesn't hurt that they have pretty good personnel as well. When I look at obion, I don't see te personnel that Crockett county has and certainly not the personnel that Trezevant has. Obion's best personnel in the past few years were recruited players that WERE NOT from obion county. Obion has won 7 games in 3 years without those type players. That's 2.3 wins per year. Most talent goes to UC. They have 2 gold balls in the past 5 years. Likely to add another this year. That makes it hard to lure athletes.
  12. Well if they are 1a when the state has 6 classifications, then what do you think would happen when we go to 5 classifications? Hint: you can actually have more students than last year and stay 1a. From my understanding, Union City is actually a pretty small school, enrollment wise.
  13. The Dyersburg coach in question is not the head guy, but an assistant. Truth be told, I dont know who would want to go OC, hard to win many games in their classification with the players they have. Kendall and Cruce arent great options in my opinion. Dyer Co. didnt make playoffs this year and Cruce was supposed to turn GC around and that has yet to happen. Not suprised by OC wanting an "OC guy", alway had the impression that they wanted to take care of their own, even at the expense of being good. It all comes back to the amount of talent on the field however.
  14. Liberty's schedule is far better than Trezevant's. There are no KIPP's or MLK Prep on Liberty's schedule. That said, Liberty is the only team that can play with Trezevant. The winner of the Liberty/Trezevant game in rd 2 is who will play in the semis's, round 4, etc. After beating Crockett in the quarters, round 3 etc. Crockett should just hope their coach isnt wearing purple and white in a town 20 min away in a few weeks.....
  15. Could be a 4 seed, over Central. Should be over Central anyway, bat them head to head and would be 2nd in the district.
  16. If White Station wins against Melrose, that makes them the #2 in district correct? with win over central. First and second place district teams get seeding preference don't they?
  17. Since you went to Greeneville, what is your opinion of how your program is supported? From a community standpoint to the administration of the school? Does the admin favor football and sports? Do you all have an athletic period or is practice after school etc?
  18. You call it snobbery, I call it confidence.... I do not know what flyers you are talking about, I am not a supporter of MTCS and I certainly have no idea who or where Forrest is. I just saw the terrible title to the thread, so I read it.
  19. You might want to re read the post you responded to. I was simply saying saying that I expect liberty or trezevant to come out of quad 4, based on the fact that crockett county (also quad 4) will have a tough time running on either team. I'm fairly certain that I did not make a title prediction.
  20. Thats because these people did not go to a private school. Everyone knows manners and dignity are reserved for private schoolers.
  21. Would have been funny.... had your comment been directed towards the right school. dhst is a Liberty fan, which is in Jackson. Not a Trezevant fan, which is in Memphis. Nice try though. Regardless of failed humor attempts. It will be a battle between Liberty and Trezevant for who comes out of quad 4. Just dont see Crockett making past either one of those two. Good luck running the ball on either one, I believe Trezevant is averaging negative rushing yards for the year.
  22. Going to the semi's for the previous 4 to 5 years before last year is fairly good. Better than dropping off for 4 or 5 years like you say. There arent too many teams in the state that have as good of a defense as Oakland. They are LOADED with kids that will play on ESPN in the next few years. So, I would say, no, Ravenwood does not want to be quad two.
  23. We shall see about the blocking. You will have to play Trezevant or Liberty in the playoffs. You say good blocking defeats speed. I say speed on the defensive line, such that is enjoyed by Trezevant and Liberty, is hard to block. And one more thing.... schedule is a big deal. Liberty has played MUS and BA. Crockett plays Bolivar and Fayette Ware.
  24. Also take into consideration the difference in O line play between BA and NS
