  1. Undefeated Freshmen and Junior Varsity teams last year seem to point toward another strong squad. We may be losing some star power on defense, but not the coaching staff. I'm hoping we can just talk about the team and the district in this thread. Walker Valley will be awfully strong.
  2. I remember when the legal system used to convict people, not social media. I also remember when your actions represented yourself and your upbringing, not every job / organization / school / or team you've ever been a part of. Even if innocence is proven, the ignorance will continue to erode away high quality people. I hope yall's children are never accused of a crime.
  3. This is exactly the type of garbage that papers and televisions are advertising falsely
  4. Has to be mistake, SS. The wonders of an encyclopedia anyone can edit without being correct.
  5. That's fair, SS. I read the same article- and to me it states the obvious- the two largest and 'best' schools in the county receive the most hardship / transfer requests (Ooltewah and East Hamilton). East Hamilton receives the most based on percentage, for what it's worth. If we were bussing in talent, I think both programs would be unstoppable (the assigned zone is already athlete heavy). I know of at least 4 kids that have hardships for academics that do not play sports. As far as the articles and news reports, I've read so many versions of facts that contradict themselves I can't even see straight anymore. The truth will come out in the wash and I'm glad no one has been fired until the investigation proves it necessary.
  6. I don't have much to say because A) I don't follow basketball closely and B ) I've been waiting on the facts. This has nothing to do with the football program or any other program at OHS. You don't know how "things are run" anymore than I do. I've heard plenty about athletes at many schools including Oak Ridge misbehaving but have never once judged an entire school for it. I am sickened by the action and I hope all that are found guilty are punished. Destroying 1600+ students and personally attacking faculty and coaches who have no bearing on this is reckless and deplorable. SweetScience I've always thought of you as a level headed, insightful poster. I don't recall you having any problems with our football team (minus facilities) when we played.
  7. Best of luck Rhea County from the Owl's Nest. I think it'll come down to how healthy y'all are after our matchup and how fast your pass rush can get to the SEC commit.
  8. I read a lot more than I post, but I wanted to throw some comments into the mix: 1. I'd like to say well done to both sides in the week leading up to the game not attacking the other team's off the field issues. No Owl supporter went after your DE upon suspension or reinstatement and I thought Rhea County fans were very classy / sensitive to our MLB situation. 2. My hats off to the kids on both sides for their effort. Injuries, suspensions, and a tough opponent could've broken either side. I've never seen high school kids play harder. I don't think either team executed as well as they could have, but they truly left everything on the field. 3. Last but not least, I admired the class shown by kids and coaches. This is a rivalry and it's no secret that neither side cares much for the other. But I never saw any disrespectful action on the field or in the papers. As a matter of fact, there were more kids helping each other up after hits than I've ever seen. As a father, that meant more to me than the outcome. 4. This isn't college. Disagree with decisions all we want; It's not right to call for people's teaching jobs over play calling. If they're helping make real men and winning a lot more than losing, no reason to come after their livelihood.
  9. I noticed a couple of important starters out for Ooltewah tonight on defense. I thought it was a fun game to watch between two very motivated teams. I'm sure Clinton will pose an excellent challenge, and I bet the Owls will deliver and then some. Week 10 games are always tricky and Walker Valley had the weapons to make it very interesting. They deserve a lot of credit.
  10. I asked a parent of a JV player this question and was told that the Ooltewah JV was undefeated. The future apparently looks just as bright.
  11. I apologize if I came off abrasive- it was more curiosity than anything. It has seemed like every thread I've read on Ooltewah for the last couple of years, you've always cheered on the opponent. I know our fan base has created less friends than enemies, so I thought maybe there was a story there. I don't read a lot of threads, but after checking on your history I can tell I read your comment incorrectly.
  12. Hard to overlook a 4-1 district opponent that's been lighting up the scoreboard. Owls 24-14.
  13. Wingman, it's pretty clear you don't like Ooltewah. What isn't clear is why?
  14. Good luck to our fellow district Eagles as they take on a strong opponent. I've respected Rhea since BEFORE our matchup last year and I will continue to do so as long as that staff is in place and the kids play that hard. I'll pull hard for you all in every game but 2-- hopefully the two we play against each other.
  15. When two good teams and staffs play, it's bound to get ugly and I loved watching the defenses play chess with each other. Tis you've been around longer than I have; who do you think is the favorite for the 5A gold ball?
  16. Disappointed Tyner wasn't back on our schedule this season. Very athletic and disciplined match up. Best of luck to both teams.
  17. We scrimmaged WB and I thought they had 4-5 offensive skill guys that were solid. Definitely put in a smart scheme. If Bearden has any disruptive DL, it could be a long night for the Govs. Up until Farragat, I've read great things about Bearden's offense.
  18. Seemingly equal teams, great coaching, unreal atmosphere, district title implications, etc... I respect the Eagles as an opponent and fan base. I love watching my Owls play against high level opponents. How can you love football and want to be anywhere else Friday night?
  19. East Hamilton is much better than their showing this past Friday. Excellent RB and solid QB. Ooltewah was able to win the battle upfront and then the wheels fell off. I look for the Hurricanes to make a run at the district title.
  20. Haha I'll tactfully take the compliment, Blaze. I think the Owls are right where they need to be at this point in the season. Playing Riverdale and now Erwin early is going to grow up our young / inexperienced guys just in time for district play. I saw a lot of strides made against Signal. Hopefully we are still healthy and hungry!
  21. Much respect to Riverdale. I bet both teams will be better off for manning up and playing each other Week 1. Owls are great where they should be and young / inexperienced where I expected them to be. Special things ahead.
  22. Excellent post. I'm just glad we tested ourselves Week 1 to find the holes and strong points of our team. This loss may end up causing more wins than we are used to having when it's all said and done. No need to throw coaches or kids under the bus just yet. Kudos and good luck to Riverdale the rest of the way.
  23. I don't follow. I thought he was young; did he graduate last year? Where'd he sign with?
