  1. Will this game be online or the radio? I got 500miles between me and Findley Stadium, not going to make by kick-off.
  2. I like that ND guys look out for the own. Took care of their teammate after a cheap shot.
  3. Does this mean it could be on the radio or t.v.? I am kinda surprised the gravel path is still around....

    ND @ Webb

I played against Troy Flemming in 1998? and no need to look up the score. BGA beat us a lot to a little. The first match up was at ND and we blitzed him like crazy, up ended him once and actually held him to only very few yards. Right before half he returned a punt and broke lose on a long run and maybe even found another way to score. Thus, leading to a huge BGA win. He was really, really fast but I do not remember him being much of a bruiser. Prediction ND wins!(just because)

You only went back to 1943??? We have another 80 or so years of history before, right? Just giving you a hard time. I appreciate the post and I did not know that we were one of the better ND teams up to that point in our history. Coach Brown and assistants were great coaches and leaders. ND football has some interesting story lines and history and in some cases game video. There are way more qualified people to discuss this but in the off season or when you get a chance dig up the game film from Meigs Co. game around 1987 or 1988. From my understanding, ND had the first ever female to score points in a TSSAA football game. She was a kicker. The 1996 ND victory was at Webb and a tough game. Before the game the Webb announcer droned on and on and on about nonsense and the field day winners from Kindergarten through elderly division.... It was monotone and impossible to get away from. It felt like some kind of FBI interrogation noise. The ND kicker was very good and consistent. He played football at the next level but that game wining kick was the worst looking kick he ever kicked... it was in a flat spin and barely cleared the cross bar. lol. Did not matter because we still sang the fights song in the locker room. Obviously Coach Fant and company have done some great things and had the most successful era at ND. I live hundreds of miles away, is any media covering the game? radio or t.v.? Go Irish!

    ND @ Webb

This has no bearing on the game this year but just my 2 cents. Booger, I am not trying to undermine your quick facts, just not sure how far back your ND history book goes. I was part of the other ND win over Webb in 1997. I do not remember the exact score but we won on a field goal with seconds left in the game. It was lots of fun and obviously a game I remember 20 years later. Webb was a tough, well coached team but we were able to pull out a win. Webb beat us in the playoffs the same year. We kinda limped into the playoffs with lots of injures. Outside of the 9-1 regular season team from 1996, that was the best team I was on at ND. This was after the McCallie wrestling(probably other schools) issue/ lawsuits and public and private became split. From my understanding this was the first public/private split and may have been the first time ND played Webb. Go Irish!
  7. Thanks Booger, Yeah I was around for the first public/ private split and watched it only hurt the kids. Looks like not much has changed in that regard. I love how some public school supporters lump all "private" schools into one category. For example, McCallie started the whole mess and we are or at least were totally different than McCallie. In 1996 we ran the wing-t with more options than brute run over you type of power. We could run at some teams after mixing it up a little bit. I think the indians ran some sort of veer offense back then. Their visitor locker rooms had a weird 4 foot tall hallway under the bleachers, had to have been for livestock? Lol.. they probably do not use that stadium anymore. Will this game be on the radio or T.V. anywhere?
  8. Thank you for posting this article link. I was a part of that rivalry in the 90's and the Indians were tough. SC was a region game for us for a couple of years. The 1996 loss disrupted our undefeated season. We were 9-0 going into the last game of the season and played SC at home in a monsoon. The rain, injuries to our team and a guy named Josh Cain led to an Indian victory. We had a good team but the rain hurt our ability to throw the ball. I remember guys playing hurt but playing extremely hard because SC was good team. I know nothing about SC now but I am proud of how the Irish are playing. SC owes us one, Go Irish!

  11. Homecoming week should put all the more focus on winning! No one wants to attend a dance in honor of a loss. I remember many agreements to not attend the dance if we lost our homecoming football. Assuming they still have homecoming dances? Fant seems to be a great coach, he will the guys ready to play. Effort should never be an issue for ND. Go Irish!
  12. Wow, crazy how things change. In my almost ancient history time of playing football at ND, we owned catholic. I think we played every year and some years they were barely better than middle school teams. Spartan4life, if you dust off your history books, I think the first meeting between Webb and ND was in 1997 and resulted in a last second field goal by ND to give Webb a regular season loss. I think Webb visited ND for the playoff game and Webb got the best of us. If I remember correctly we had some banged up players and did not peak at the end of the season. We played both ways back then. According to your signature line, that was the year they were runner-ups. That year was probably not the best ND team I was apart of but it was one of the better teams. Booger, I think you are correct in that ND does not have as deep of pockets as other private schools. However, the facilities have drastically improved since my time at ND. In fact, during my time at ND we did not have a home baseball field and our weight room was a glorified closet. We played many public schools with better facilities. I would not have traded schools and felt like the difference at ND was always the people not the materials. I have no clue about what has been going on at Catholic. I hope the TSSAA can get the classifications right for the athlete's sake! I enjoy reading yalls opinions and hope to make it back to an ND sometime. Game Prediction. ND 24-Catholic 21 With no injuries, both go on to win State Titles (If that is even possible)
  13. I think you are on to something here... How many "injuries" cannot be overcome in the recovery time but be okay to wrestle in 45 minutes or the next morning? Typically if you are injured now, it will be the same for the next match and the rest of the tournament. I know people can come up with examples but not many valid examples.
  14. Something I have not seen posted yet. I have seen kids that cannot continue to wrestle due to a controversial illegal slam call, willing to shake hands and forfeit to the offensive wrestler. Obviously, this is only when the slammed wrestler feels the offensive wrestlers intention was not injury but occurred out of the natural aggression of wrestling. Many wrestlers have a hard time admitting they got slammed, thus would rather lose than admit they won by these means. This is usually the moral high road and not seen much lately. Unfortunately, I think the rule must stand, the wrestling community needs to do better job of policing and taking care of itself. Another point of interest that was addressed is the ability to continue. How many injuries sustained on the mat cannot be alleviated in the recovery time, could be overcome in the next 45 minutes or day? For example, a wrist used for support during an illegal slam? That wrist will not be unbroken in 45 min or the next morning. So what is the point in taking a win just to gimp into the next match or taking the win to just forfeit the next match? I was not present and did not witness this illegal slam but I do wish injured wrestler a safe recovery and my heart goes out to Russo.
